Gday all

I am looking at getting a new exhaust system and I am wondering if anyone has used or got a HKS system off just jap, Main concern is how loud it will be?

Also what is the difference between the series 1 and 2 as they dont have any series 2 left,

I am looking at the HKS Hi-Power 409 Exhaust System, or maybe just go to a exhaust shop and get them to make one, any thoughts??

cheers

HKS do a Hi-Power silent exhaust that are reasonably quite due to there being an extra muffler

They have them at nengun.com heres the link http://www.nengun.com/hks/high-power-exhaust-silent

They can normally have the items to your door in under 2 weeks

I run one. They are rated at 92db

It is not too loud and does not drone.

I use to run a fujistabo legarus R (waht ever they are called) at 89db and was too quite. Hardly heard it

There is hardly any difference between series 1 and 2 exahust. I have had both on my car. Maybe one mount is slightly different, can't remember

The HKS Hi-Power Silent and the 409 are basically the same thing, just the silent is made from shinny 304 grade stainless and the 409 is made from exhaust grade 409 stainless. i think the main difference between S1 and S2 is the length.

i run a 409 system in my car, it has a middle muffler as well as the cannon tip. its not quite, but its not obnoxiously loud. my car is an auto and there is some drone in the cabin especially when travelling at 80-90kph that can get a little annoying when stuck at that speed limit for 1-2hrs. but its nothing the volume knob on the stereo doesn't fix.

how much are the 409's going for at the moment? might be cheeper to get one made up at an exhaust shop, at least then you can get a couple big mufflers put on it to get it really quite if you want. i must say though, the HKS exhaust is a quality made system and it really was as easy as bolting it on, all the hangers lined up, angles were perfect etc.

i got a hks silent on my s2, and it sounds really nice, no drone, no nothing, only thing i really really miss is the burble i used to get from only having resonators in my system. the muffler is a bit big so it kind of removes of the burble.

but i do say its heaps quiet, i tested mine with a db meter a while back and i got 87dB, that was with a 3"cat 200cell, and 3"bellmouth dump.

thing is, hks only has the preset tips for the exhaust, so no twin endpot or so. just the big oven pipe :)

also it would be very expensive to get a mandrel bent exhaust made in 3" 304 steel.

but then just choose 1 endpot and 1 resonator. sounds blooody sweet!!!

p.s if you want a vid and sound clip of the silent system, jut let me know

I am thinking of going the non silent one as i don't want to end up with listening to the fan belt rather then the engine again. The hks 409 is selling for $999 on just jap.

I am still waiting to hear back from just jap on eta of new stock so i might go around some exhaust shops the only problem is there isn't much choice down here in tas.

cheers for all your feed back

I have a spare stagea/skyline exhaust sitting at home if you wish to buy? 3" with rear twin tip stainless muffler. Came off the rb26, but as far as Im aware they should suit both 25 and 26 models. Not 100% sure though

Is the exhaust off a stag or skyline as the the skyline exhaust is 60mm shorter, just enough to be a pain, is it full stainless or just muffler and how much you looking for it??

Yeah it came off my S1 RS260 Stagea. I will admit it is mild steel I think, but a stainless muffler. I'll dig it out tonight and take a happy snap of it. I wouldn't want much for it mate. $200 would suit me. But just noticed you are in Tassie, so not sure what shipping would set ya back. I havnt gotten around to posting it up in the classifieds as yet.

I have a hks 409 exhaust, high flow cat, greddy front pipe and hks split dump. Good flow, fck all drone and hangers line up perfectly. Change your O2 sensor while your at it. IMO dont go for full stainless as it doesnt bend if the fitting is out a bit and dont buy a dump/front pipe bcos you can just replace the front pipe if you bottem out on kerbz and shit. Flex front pipes are decent for that. JDM stuff has the best gaskets and fitting.

    • Admin delete if not allowed please, I just purchased an r32 GTST with a Gtr front bar , grill I assume bonnet? (maybe) I have 2 questions he told me it had an RB25det I’m new to the RB world, and this is the photo I have taken and also I noticed a piece near my suspension broken is this fixable , will update new photos tomorrow once I have lifted her up and removed the LHS wheel I want to know if there is ways around this , I didn’t notice anything as it drove with no knocks on the suspension or weird feeling    the car feels sluggish, and the rpm cluster literally goes to 3.5-4k rpm and when you put your foot down it dances around like the local girl on Canterbury road or Sefton playhouse the car sat for 8 years he said the oil was dropped and re done , I noticed the oil was very clean car starts no problems by all means it’s not a clean car it is a project but doesn’t need much, knowing me I will go overboard the colour is horrible car has 88k kms hardly driven needs a few things but it’ll be fun to build properly    so guys is this an rb20 or rb25 and what is this bracket called? Can it be fixed thanks
    • found this on the forum , suggests I am in the range  ----------------------------- From the segmented (potentially incorrect) information I've found that;  Early R32: RB26000XXXX to RB26002XXXX  Mid R32: RB26003XXXX (V-Spec I RB26-03XXXXX - Reference Classic Register) Late R32: RB26004XXXX (V-Spec II RB26-042XXXX - RB26-045XXXX - Reference Classic Register) Early R33: RB26005XXXX Mid R33: RB26006XXXX (as per the engine in this R32 V-Spec II, which is what I'm concerned about from legitimacy perspective) Late R33:  RB26007XXXX Early R34 (2000+):  RB26008XXXX ----------------------
    • Now as I understand it the engine numbers are sequential for the rb26.  EG stamped - RB26040100A is a 40,100 engine.    Now they made between 1988 and 1994 43,834 R32 GTR's  In 1994 they made 7,464 r32 gtr's.  So if you have a ~37,000++ number RB26 it's "safe" ish to assume its an 1994 motor and a long nose crank ?    The long nose crank being introduced somewhere in Feb of 1993.
