My vq30dd came with a pod filter, why the hate?

Nissan factory airboxs are actually very good. In fact your airbox has flowed 300awkw on a Stagea. Thats with the front panel open. Pod filters are great at sucking in hot air from the engine bay (thus reducing power), generally reducing filtration, and being defectable if not enclosed by the Po po. They add noise but no power.

As I said before....

I have only looked at google images of the VQ25dd.I can't see any reason why a z-tube, wouldn't fit. have a search and look at one.

Make your own "powerduct" or buy one from a sucker thats got a pod filter on a VQ35de, and get a quality panel filter. Intake done. Its not going to get any better than that.

OR

hold off modifying it, wait 1 year, and go buy a turbo car thats easier to mod. I can't see how you'd turbo a DD motor. Its very different to a VQ35de. Just wait, buy a 350z and then go nuts.

I can't see why turbo charging a DD motor would be the different. Finding higher capacity DD injectors might be the only hurdle, assuming the factory injectors can't keep up.

It wasn't the fact direct injection and turbo hadnt been done but the vq25dd issues.

Yeah, we'll I'm glad I'm not doing it. Problems off the top of my head would be the dd injectors, the fact it's either 11:1 or 11.3:1 compression, plus the Strength of the connecting rods, and engine management.

I guess it's one of those things, if you throw enough money at it, it would probably work, but it's really not a cost effective project. Far better to ditch it when on full licence and get something easier.

yeah i agree on all those points!

either wait and get a VQ25DET motor installed (and i rekon youll have a monster) or upgrade later when you can afford to

its easier learning to hone your driving skills on a lower powered car. then upgrade when you can drive better.

Whoa, Iain, is that a can of worms I hear you opening, lol. Although most likely true, I can think of a heap of teenagers/early twenties guys (& gals??) who could drive better than me - on a race track anyway, where there's no worry of a lost licence. Although I might be a better (safer) driver now then when I was 18-20, I certainly don't have the nads for risk taking like I used to.

unless he has been driving for years in gokarts or something - no offence intended - then he isnt 'as good' as driver as some others and still may require the experience (and possibly patience) required on the road.

i still take risks, but i use experience before i attempt anything stupid :P

I totally agree. There was the generalisation, which is normally true btw, that young = not a good driver. I wanted to extinguish the flames before they took hold  .

Pod filters are the biggest waste of time!! They suck on hot air and do nothing!!

The plans are:

-Exhaust.

-Port and polish.

-Cold air intake.

-ECU.

-Good tune.

And see what power I get from that. Saving for a M35 axis stagea

replacing that intake pipe on the NA engines is worthwhile, as is the plenum spacer.

a port and polish? you realise that means the motor has to come apart?

probably not worth it unless you throw in some cams too
