M35 Turbo Upgrade.

Several good options out there; Talk to Scotty about Hypergear.

I'm running a Precision Turbochargers Sierra Stage 2. Jetwreck hooked me up with that one. Very happy with it.

If you aren't planning on tuning the ecu via the Emanage ultimate or Fcon at some point, stick with as close to stock sized as possible. The G1 profile for $880 is a good deal, or a Sierra stage 1 some other builders use. You will notice lag either way, as the wheel is steel, not ceramic, but it shouldn't be to bad if you keep them close to stock sized.

Where are you located Mark? The part you should be more worried about is who is doing the swap...

What was the specs on the presicion turbo Dale ?.

Not sure on the emanage/fcon upgrade yet Scotty. I do all the work on my cars. (mechanic +22 yrs) this one wil be a challange, but i'm sure i'll manange with it. ( & swear a bit..)

Looks like i might have to fab up a new intake whilst i'm there. Bit of work to do & Loads of room to work on ! (lol).

There seems to be a few oil feed mods to do as well. What's involved with that ?

Thanks for your help gents !

I'm interested in this also. I have a spare stock M35 turbo to send off to Hypergear this week sometime and am trying to decide which option to go.

I have an emanage ultimate and Greddy Profec sitting next to the turbo that will be fitted at the same time so i'm leaning towards buying injectors and bigger fuel pump as they will peak out around the 200kw mark.

Stao from Hypergear recommends either the G2 highflow (rated up to 240kw on 98 pump) assuming you plan to add injectors, pump, emanage etc. He also put the SS2 profile on the table as well which will produce 270kw but i'm still looking for dyno results as lag is my concern also. I'm coming from a 240kw R33 so i'm looking for something similar (auto aside) from my M35.

At this stage the G2 is looking the goods for me.

I also went with a high flow by Precision(same as Daleo) but went with an SS1. For me I was after nice low down responsive power. It is still slightly lagier then stock. But hardly noticable. But the power delivery and increased high end power is very noticable. I will shortly be installing 1000cc injectors a bigger fuel pump and an Adaptronic ECU along with a couple more bits and pieces, At which time i will upload results for everyone to see. My goal is to have very minimal lag.

i got the hypergear SS2 with billet front wheel, and boy was it laggy driving it home from the workshop.

As scotty said if not tuning stick to as close to stock as possible.

And if tuning look into getting the wastegate bored out bigger and getting scottys waste gate actuator.

Gday All,

Ive just been reading through this thread for my mate Lenny whos bought an M35. Hes keen to do a few performance mods but its hard to find info on these cars.

So far he has:

-made a less restrictive intake

-made a replacement stainless turbo intake elbow (less bendy and restrictive than stock)

-chucked on a hks frontmount (came off an evo, and fitted right on!).

Next up old mate will be building a 3 inch stainless exhaust, he would like to increase the boost or upgrade turbo if possible.

So I guess we will need to look at turbos available and also an ecu to support it, Ive read the threads whats the general consensus for an ecu upgrade?

I run a GT2871 on my RB20det cefiro but reckon that would be too small for the Stagea, Im guessing something about a GT3071 as its a 2.5L, does this sound about right?

Next question, is anybody running this and how much hassle was it?

thanks for any help,

Agent A31

See the preceding posts for ideas on turbos. The problem with ecus is the auto so you have really to piggyback something on to the stock ecu.

The Greddy E-manage is relatively cheap, anyone should be able to tune it and you may be able to find an adapter loom for it.

The HKS F-Con is a better unit but it is more expensive and few tuners have the software to tune it - looms are available if hard to find.

Then you can put anything else on you like - Link, Adaptronic? (ref the previous post) etc but that is a more expensive option and will probably have to be hand grafted into the loom.

How much coin does he have to blow? Not many of us running aftermarket turbo's, most are happy with a highflow for less headaches. Have you even seen how hard it is to get to?

So the time has come for an upgrade, would like to get roughly 290-300kw atw on 98pump with as decent spool/response time as i can get (yes i know pushing shit up hill lol) I believe i have all the supporting mods ready to go atm apart from injectors and obvious fabrication to fit the turbo in. I have included the mamba turbos because of price im open to other options. The EFR turbos are a bit more expensive but seem to be the goods. Im leaning towards the GTX3071R with a .82 or .63 A/R but would also like to see what the EFR7163 would be like! from the looks of things the GTX would hit full boost round 4000rpm with the .82 at a guess? the EFR with the lighter wheel maybe a few 100 rpm sooner? And space would be a limiting factor of course. the EFR Is of similar size to the GTX in circumference just a bit longer so that could be an issue. Any input or thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated!

I would like to go external gate but I'm not opposed to going internal. The gtx looks like it will fit in close to stock location so if I went the gtx way I'd probably put it there, but other than that maybe remove air box lol?

Did you see my GTX install pics from 4-5 years ago? The GTX 3076 fits, but only just, and that was the external gate housing. Think 'Ship in a bottle' it wasn't an easy fabrication by any means.

Let me know if you can't find the thread as I should still have some pictures saved somewhere.

No, too damn laggy. :P I have tried a few 3071's, now i'm helping design a highflow to suit the stock converter and still flow close to 300kw on e85.

The Garrett would be fine with a high stall converter, (just ask Alex who bought my setup) but realistically a highflow will produce enough torque these days to toast your gearbox, without the need to rev it to 8k.

Unless you have full standalone control none of this is a good option, you running the Fcon?
