Different Size Tyres Front To Rear, why?

Recommended Posts

Cos you need more grip at the rear, and less rolling resistance on the front to make steering lighter (whic for some reason they wanted in a 'luxury' sports car). Most people just put the same all round when they replace the tyres to make rotating easier and to get the most out of their tyres.

It is my understanding that the only G37 Infiniti's that would come from factory with a square set up would be the X model on the account that AWD vehicles need to run the same tire size, could be wrong but that the impression I got...

The yanks inform me that their equivalent model uses the same size tyre front and rear

Are you sure...

That is not what the service manual or tire rack says...

Since our car are rear wheel drive, The rear tyres are design to be bigger. Same goes to any performance rear wheel drive car. Which is why we need to run a staggered fitment. If you run same tyres front and back, the stability traction control all will go crazy... and you can feel it every time you corner. Wheels start locking up, ECU thinking you are having a slip wheel.

Nah.. VDC will be fine with the same size tyres all round, many people run that setup without issue. The VDC equipped sedans have the same size tyres and don't have issues.

Yep,

I used to run same size tyres all round with my old V36 coupe & that was with the stock 19's that are slightly wider on the rear.

Used to run it on autocross & trackdays with no dramas
