Ok

Time to start the annual Bathurst thread!

Who is going to the mountain?

Who is doing what?

Me - stonkered drunk as per usual.

Now, the real question...

Who are your top 3 teams? You can also have a wild card team too.

Me - haven't thought that far but always have Murph!

Lowndes and Richo are in my 3. Just need 2 more lol

haha early start this year!

I am of course putting my money on Nissan 1,2,3,4 followed by 2 Volvos!

so you are expecting most of the first 10 cars to crash out with the 2 Volvos only suffering minor suspension damage, where they can continue racing, but with reduced pace?

I second that.

How well did the Frenchy go! I think some time away and this new car suits him.

If I was to go for a Holden it would be jamie and if I had to go for a ford it would be lost-it haha

And for the Merc's I just hope they make the top ten and finish for Betty.

For the actual day I will be in front of a TV somewhere, heavily with beer :-)

Hard to think anyone other than Whincup will win. In fact I think I will put the rent money on it. The odds of them having a better car set up than anyone else are unbackable.

Which is not to say that I want 888 to win anything ever again.

Of the other hopes it all depends if they can get their cars tuned to be quick late in the day
McLaughlin, Giz and Frosty are all in the same boat. FPR may be the best chance of beating the 888 team but they have all lost their way lately.

HRT have come good but Sandown isn't Bathurst although they have loads of horse powers judging from the last time out which never hurts. If Murph can keep it of the wall and Courtney not screw up maybe - but it is less likely than Tander driving well and pulling a result out of nothing.

Nissan, Benz - forget it. Same for anyone else too.

Can the co driver compete in the top ten shoot out? If so I wonder if Murf will steer?

Yes a co-driver can but he has to be the one thats puts the car in the top 10 in the 1st place from memory.

I'm hoping Wincup and Coldarse fight it out at the end again like last year.

Jamie is by far the best tin top driver in Australia at the moment and he loves R32 GTR's so he's cool in my books. Davy Reynolds would have to be my 3rd pick,,,he's a great driver a smartarse and who doesn't like a smartarse in racing. Taking the piss out of dirt-bag Lowndes was some funny shit.

Mandatory pit stops will kill any hope of Nissan/Betty's/Vulva's hopes,,,all 3's bad fuel economy will make their lives a misery all day.

Cheers

Neil.

Thought the Volvos were ok for fuel? Would not be unhappy if Gary Rogers pulled it off.

And yes Reynolds actually has a personality, unlike most of the others. Although when Moffat channels his old mans rage he is good value in front of the camera.

Watching that Legends series reminded why Mezera is one of my all time fav tin top drivers. Such a shame I couldnt care less about 98% of the grid as it stands as they are all hollow pieces of media trained fluff. Murphy is about the only guy I will support.... and what Nissan and co are doing for next years test day clash with the 12hr gives me more reason to dislike the series and the teams

    • Timing map only tells part of the story, I've seen a few cars where the CAS has been adjusted so you might see 12 at the ECU but at the motor you could be seeing 8 kind of thing. A S15 I converted from PowerFC to Nistune had just that, CAS was turned back to have less timing than the ignition map itself lol... "Choonered".
    • But your running 1.6 bar of boost, is it still 12 degrees of timing at 1.6 bar of boost? Also, is there e85 fuel at the petrol stations in Dubai?
    • swaybar swaybar swaybar swaybar swaybar anyway OP, what is currently in your car, are they factory shocks and sway bar? Any sign anything else has been changed under there over the years? And as Murray said....what are effect you looking to change
    • Congratulations on your find  Did you mean it has 6k miles or was that a typo? Firstly, keep in mind some movement of the shifter is normal...it is a long rod hanging out of a box bolted to the engine. Having said that there are 2 next places to look: 1. Transmission and engine mounts. If these are worn or broken the shifter will move around more. They are reasonably easy to source and replace on a hoist, and possible but uncomfortable to replace car stands 2. On the bottom of the shifter there is a nylon cup that sits over shifter's ball end. If this is worn or broken the shifter will move around more than it should (but will still shift OK). That is a cheap part and requires removal of centre console, rubber shifter hole covers and a circlip in the gearbox shifter hole to remove the shifter. Re maintenance, as with any new import you should change all the fluids including transmission when you get it; never trust the seller and previous owners to have done the right thing. I am pretty sure R34 GTT is the same as earlier big box transmissions, so use any good quality GL4 75w90 trans fluid if it is shifting well (if it is hard to shift due to synchro wear, redline shockproof lightweight will keep it alive a bit longer before rebuild is required)
