Exhaust Modification

Hey all,

I'm going to need to get my exhaust tweaked. By that I mean it hangs so low its not funny. Its a Nismo exhaust and the lowest part of my car is the exhaust it self. I took it to a shop and all I got from him was "Your car is too low". My car sits well above 100mm everywhere else, its just the exhaust. Hell even my HKS exhaust(which I swapped out with this Nismo) sat much higher, but 1cm too low near the diff from the huge flange HKS use.

Is it possible to raise the height of the exhaust by shortening the dump and shortening the hangers? The dump scrapes, the 5" body cat scrapes and the rear of my exhaust near the diff scrapes. The car is sitting on HSD's which I think are wound as high as they can go. I have no clearance issues apart from this damn exhaust. I am thinking of having the mid muffler on the Nismo ripped out and a hooker aero chamber fitted in the guts while having the exhaust raised. My brother would have done it but he only has gear to weld aluminium.

If anyone can suggest a shop around sydney with quick turn around, that would be great.

Would I be better off getting a custom exhaust made? I know which parts I want to use, I just want the exhaust to sit tighter to the car. Theres room nearly everywhere.

The two components I would like to use in the system are the american Hooker aero chamber as the mid muffler, and retaining my nismo end muffler. Ben on here pumps 300kw if I recall and comes in at 86db at the revs they check down in SA. He uses a hooker aero chamber and a berklee straight through. This Nismo muffler is huge and flows well but the mid muffler in this exhaust is quite small.

I've used Liverpool Exhaust a couple of times with good success, good prices as well. Book in advance and tell them exactly what you want done (even go down and show them before booking).

They should be able to whip something up for you, even if you bring your own mufflers (not that I've done that).

back around 5+ years ago.. I went to them... wouldn't say it was "good success" but hopefully out with the old in with the new staff...

Anyone got photos of their work currently? I'm itching a full 3.5" custom system from start to end and super quiet :D

The 3.5 inch aerochamber I ran had no chance, even with a mid muffler. Louder than the open Varex and restricted to 3 inch internally. Perhaps they require exhaust flowing to make it quiet? I had to ditch mine due to horrid drone.

if your going to spend big dollars on a custom exhaust you might aswell just import a japanese exhaust... (hks, apexi etc... )

ive been through the whole custom exhaust thing. and buy the time you get the whole noise down thing, your spend like $1000+ for a cat back, and yes most mufflers are restricted to 3inch internally so your back where you started...or youve just down graded your flow

yep. get a jap exhaust....cause 2.5" restritors are exactly whst everyone wants

well im running 390kw and a HKS super turbo muffler exhaust, its 85mm and flows fine! unless your running over 450kw.... why do you need more than a 3.5-4inch exhaust??

ive seen people running 3 inch exhaust and still making 400+kw....... but that aside thats not the point the OP is trying to get at here. its all about the position of the exhaust. not the size, yes the size does matter when your getting it custom made but i suppose thats up to the shop making it. or what the customer wants. ive had 4 exhausts and a custom made one aswell until i was happy with my exhaust

No, no you don't.

A system that generally hangs lower than it needs to, with peanut mufflers and a catalogue badge doesn't represent value for money in anyway.... Unless you like badges.

you have these brands that have done extensive work on perfecting exhausts to fit on cars, this comment above is in relation to noise and in response to another comment that you can see didnt quote properly.

sorry mate but those off the shelf jap exhausts are overpriced and often have step-downs at the mufflers. I just pulled a 4inch apexi stainless catback off a GTR that had 3 inch mufflers. What a waste of money; well the apexi sticker in the window is a bonus for some...

edit: the 4inch apexi catback is for sale btw

but as i said earlier, this is about not sitting to low, not about the size of the exhaust, yes you need it to flow, but what is the OP wanting. we can keep discussing this all day, but need to know what he wants,

also as i said earlier, everyone is very upset with these step downs, but most GTR's run less than 400kw (standard engine) and there is no need to have bigger than 3.5 inch exhasut anyway, if you have got 400-450kw and over then 3.5inch you should go. again ill repeat, this is about exhaust hanging to low, now japanese exhausts are shit.

now having a mate own a 33GTR and i used to own a 33GTST and from previous knowledge im pretty sure the 33 is the tightest of them all, the least amount of room under the car, and im pretty sure most of them dip down low around the rear axle???? is that where it is low?

I've got two japanese exhaust. One HKS which is essentially 3.5" the entire way. There is no mid anything. Its 3.5" all the way to the milo tin.

My objectives here are the exhaust sitting tight in the car, flow and lastly sound. I don't want anything near as loud as this HKS Hi Power Silent, which is pretty quiet for a loud exhaust, the Nismo I am using now sounds awesome but just dangles like an old mans sacks.

I'll make some calls tomorrow but I imagine phone calls won't yield many results.

Car isnt slammed. The rollers fit under the car while way around except where the exhaust is. Only abticipate about 270rwkw at most on 19psi

My brother has an aes exhaust on his rotor. Ill bang a photo up of hiw my exhaust currently sits. I saw a big standard skyline parked on the side o the road. The way the factory exhaust sots is awesome. There are body components of the vehicle which hang lower. Im confident this can be achieved.
