Tips On Buying A 32Gtr

Recommended Posts

Hey guys been a while since ive posted but finally going to start looking for a gtr, been a bit out of it for a while, but want to know the dos and donts on buying a 32 gtr. If i recall, the early ones had oil starvation problems, and later ones they fixed it? Also I have a N1 oil pump off a 32 lying around, were these fitted to the later ones or only the N1's. Also feel free to throw in some other tips on the weaknesses and pros and cons of the early ones and later ones. Cheers.

There's already heaps of info on this topic

Try some of these, use the search first if you need any more info.

Best piece of advice around here is; do not believe the listed KM's unless you have every km accounted for in a log book/records, even then...

Paint fade on plenum usually indicates 100k+ km's - but can be easily painted.
Run the VIN through Nissan FAST to make sure it all matches NISSAN records - dedicated threads for this. (paint/model etc).

Hope this helps.

yeah im aware as looking underneith for rust around windows under wheel arches etc. Also I have a good understanding of general wear and tear and most of the time the kms arnt correct, more just after technical stuff about the early ones and the ones built after 93. I know the 93 > had fixed the oil pump, but does it run the N1 pump, same just refined. I know that they had oil drain back problems, but was it fixed in the later models? Mainly after the weaknesses and strong points of the 2 if it makes sense, obviously any car I look at im going to get up on the hoist and poke things to see the struture side of things. A few years ago I did look at a couple but for the money I was going to spend it wasnt worth it as I have never seen so much bog and bad welds on a car, so now Im prepared to spend a bit more so I am doing my homework again so I make the right decision.

ah k fair enough its what I thought just sometimes the odd chance I know some car manufactors on the last model they throw all the parts that were left over on the latest model. But in saying that a 93 onwards would be a better buy than a earlier one.

Not really.

Yeah sure, Nissan addressed the oil pump issue in the later models but it only tends to fail at highly modified applications.

If you are just using for street use, you'd be fine.

Generally buying a later model R32 GTR will just mean it's new then the older models and most probably have more life in it (Turbo's and Engine) before you need to rebuild anything.
