Strange Issue - New Head Unit Not Turning On

In the process of installing a new head unit on an r34 gtt.

The new head unit won't turn on and I've checked I have the 12v and earth correct

When I connect straight to battery it does work.

I get 12.2v accross the car battery but when I measure the voltage at the pins of the car stereo I'm only getting 11.08v.

Is this the problem.

I noticed that with the original car stereo if the 2 pin cable is not connected at the back then that doesn't turn on either.

Is there some protection system that requires the 2 pin lug to be connected and it allows the full 12v?

I haven't got the convertor plug so was unable to try plugging that in

Thanks

I don't know about the exact gt-t setup, but make sure you don't use the loom ground wire as they are useless on most Nissans. I've always had to ground the hu to the chassis. The voltage drop seems pretty high tho but head unit will still operate OK at that voltage
