R31 Power Steering Fluid Spewing Out Of Reservoir

Hi guys.

Wondering if anyone knows why my power steering fluid is spewing out of the reservoir once the car has stopped. Sometimes whilst driving too. Power steering works fine so no blockages. Any suggestions would be great.

It can boil...but people usually notice that at the track in summer. Ever changed the fluid?

I have never changed the fluid. I've only just brought this one, I use to own one years ago but I have never come across this issue

They do that if there is air in the system, is it foaming up at all? Any funny noises?

Try slowly going lock to lock a few dozen times on a loose surface, or while jacked up, topping up the res if required, that's how I usually bleed the air out or the rack. If you just bought it they may have changed the rack recently? Otherwise you may need a new pump I guess, or a seal is leaking somewhere.

I have blead the rack but it's still doing it. I'm thinking it's the pump as when I brought the car there was another one in the boot.

At least they were nice enough to give you the part, even if they couldn't be bothered undoing a few bolts and fitting it.

That's it, luckily I also have another one that I know is good so I'll fit that and see if it fixes the issue

So I finally had a chance to change the pump and so far it has fixed my issue.

Interesting - was the old one noisy at all?

No the old one was not noisy, how ever the new one I've fitted whines but nothing major. But today it decided to spew more fluid out. Any ideas on why it's doing this would be great.
