Wanting To Install Aftermarket Gauges

Hey guys

Usually I don't have a drama installing gauges

And I came up with this idea

Everything would fill up with water so I can't see a problem

But I want to retain the factory sender and the after market one

What about doing a t piece into the factory location

Cars an r32 rb20 btw

It's one thing for water to fill up places, but its another thing to get an accurate reading. What you really need for accurate readings from water temp sensors (in fact any temp sensor) is flow past it. In the factory locating, the sensors get this. The problem with your idea that I can see is that the coolant will flow past the fitting and not really into it. Therefore it will get heat soaked and show false readings.

Have a think about what I'm saying and it will make more sense.

The after market gauge I once had, had a metal in line adaptor that was fitted to the top radiator hose. Who ever fitted it cut the top radiator hose and then fitted the adaptor [think it was alloy] and used hose clamps either side. The temp sensor was screwed into the sidewall of the adaptor. Gauges were Blitz I think???

I don't run with water temp any more, just oil and exhaust temp and oil pressure. The standard water temp on the dash works fine for me.

I was thinking of doing that but the top hose is rather short and I also just bought a new one don't feel like cutting it up

I'm thinking of relocating the factory one to the bottom hose as it doesn't really give you an accurate temp anyways

Rather telling me if the water post radiator is cool

And screw the aftermarket one in the factory position giving me a more accurate engine temp.

Does this sound like a better idea guys
