R32 Skyline Buffs I Need Your Help!

Recommended Posts

Okay so i have a 1992 R32 GTS4, it has a chronic scraping sound coming from the right wheel area when full lock left, we have had the wheel off, looked for scrapes, had the brake caliper off and apart to check for road debris caught in the caliper, had the rotor off to make sure nothing was between the rotor and the back plate, we took the ABS sensor out to make sure it wasn't scoring on the gears, no visible signs of scratching which is what i would expect from the horrific sound. Anyway after roughly 3 hours with a mechanic he said that he wants to replace the entire wheel hub, to eliminate that completely which is fine as second hand they are only 50-100 dollars.

Ok so now for the real question, does anyone know if the R32 GTR Wheel hub and the R32 GTS4 wheel hub (front) are compatible / bolt straight in. To my understanding mechanically they are very similar (except for the obvious not having a cool engine etc)

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Before you go throwing money at the "problem", tell us:

What size wheels are you running (diameter, width, offset). Tyres (width, profile)?

How much camber? caster?

In my experience, the only problem I have with scraping is high speed cornering left on uneven surfaces. And the culprit is most likely the wheel rubbing on the arch liner when the suspension goes into bump / compression (lh arch liner has gone bye-byes, so I don't have the problem on right turns).

FYI - the setup on my 89 GTS4 is 17x 8" rims (not sure of offset), about 1 deg -ve camber, unknown (probably stock) castor.

One other thing you might look for is the wear marker on the brake pads rubbing on the rotor (although that would be a chronic "all the time" scraping).

And in my experience, GT-R / GTS4 suspension components are generally interchangeable.

Hi thanks for your reply, The wheel it self isn't scrubbing on anything. they are 18" wheels not sure on width or offset but i've owned the vehicle for around 18 months and only over the last month has it started doing it. The hub bolt was a bit lose but after tightening that the squeel went from consistent to only happening on the hard lock left leading my mechanic to thing with the wheel being a wee bit wobbly something might have bent so replacing the entire hub was the best way to go about it. as for turning at speed you can hear the scrape even if you are travelling at close to 0 KMPH just slowly rolling forward in hard lock left its just really slow and played out scrape but its metal on metal brakes were done about 6 months ago i believe

maybe replacing / machining the rotors wouldn't be a bad idea anyway really

Internet diagnosis sounds like the bearing (as you seem to have diagnosed yourself).

I say do it.

and iirc, all the suspension is interchangeable.

Good luck.

and please, post results.
