Cusco Camber Arms To Modify Or Not

I picked up a set of cusco caster arms yesterday. They are for R33 GTR. I have R33gtst. There are some obvious differences between the two but I believe I may be able to mod them to fit.

1. The studs that go into the lower control arm are longer.

2. There is a slight bend in the shape of the arm which I believe is for sway bar clearance on GTR. I don't think this is a big deal.

3. The area where the bush would normally be is a lot wider on the GTR. 82.1mm vs 69.5mm.

Pictures coming.

I'm thinking I can get 6mm machined off each side of the bit that fits in the caster arm bracket and either use some thick washers to pack up the studs being too long on the other end or knock the studs out and replace them with shorter ones.

Can any one see any issue with me doing this. I don't want to ruin a perfectly good set of arms.

Those are castor rods (or radius rods) rather than camber arms.

I can see a couple of potential issues with these:

  • In your original castor rod the crush tube is centred, however in the Cusco item one side is longer than the other. I doubt you can just cut it shorter and get it perfect.
  • The control arm studs look completely different, looks like with the Cuscos you might run out of thread for your bolts?
  • Another thing to check is the crush tube inner diameter, sometimes they vary
Rather than hacking into the Cuscos I would sell em and buy the correct part for your car, especially since I have some SRI ones for sale :)

I've just measured them and the crush tube length is 70mm, inner diameter 14mm, bolt distance 35mm. Asking $50.

Thanks for the comments guys.

^yes you're right. Typo but I did buy cusco camber arms also yesterday:)

I think the crush tube not being centred accommodates for the bend in the rods, so when bolted up the angles should be correct. I will check again.

Either way ill be taking more measurements and dummy fitting before I decide on hacking into anything.

Also I have access to a workshop with lathes and milling machines and guys who are willing to do the work for me, so it will be done properly and won't cost anything either.

$50 is tempting but considering the issues i read you had with the sri's I'd rather stay away from el cheapo arms. Kind of why I want to make these fit. They're good quality and in great shape and the price was also right. Good attempt to flog them though. 10 points for effort;)

Good stuff, keep us posted. Happy for you to test fit the SRIs if you decide to go that way :) As mentioned the crush tube/bolt diameter was what I had issues with, I'm guessing it might be slightly different with different models.

  • 6 months later...

Finally got around to getting these castor arms modified.

Had some material shaved off each side to make the width 69.5mm. The studs where removed and threaded almost to the bottom, then refitted. I also had some metal bushes/washers made up. This way, if I ever want to sell them, they will still be able to be used for a GTR or for other rwd Nissans.

Just have to fit them now. Here is some pics of how they came up.6f89ffb877b09e41ee0a1d9ec6541586.jpg
