R33 Gtst Timing Belt Replacement

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My R33 has only 93,000kms but it's a fresh import.

1997 GTST Turbo Automatic Coupe 40th Anniversary Model. 11/97

1/ Is it worth getting the timing belt replaced?

2/ If yes whilst the engine cover is off is it worth replacing the water pump and is it?.. the two harmonic bearings? Purely to save the labour charges....

Not sure what the average timing belt replacement costs are these days, I just remember my old 1994 Skyline cost around $1,200 to get similar work done back in 2004 but think they also replaced the spark plugs and fixed a power steering leak.

If it has never been done, I would do it.

They snap without warning, and you don't know the history of the engine.

Definitely do the timing belt tensioner and idler bearings at the same time.

Water pump is debatable.

Some say don't fix what isn't broken.

Some say may as well whilst you're there.

If it is showing any signs of leaking, change it.

If not, it's entirely up to you.
