M35 Fuel Pressure Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi all I have a problem with my 2004 stagea that has the vq25dd engine in her. It has developed a fuel pressure problem giving the fault code P1332. My local garage who diagnosed the fault seems to think the problem is with the main high pressure pump and the nissan dealer seems to think these main pumps give hardly any problems. The car runs at low revs although very sluggish but when you put your foot down it just bogs down. Has anybody had anything similar happen.? I don't want the mechanic to replace the main pump if it could be the pump in the tank or another problem. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated

Pretty common for the high pressure pump to 'fail', but you will find it is likely just the filter inside the mechanical pump I suspect.

There are aftermarket pumps from China, not sure how good they are, but try replacing the little filter basket first.

Also there is a fuel filter around the main lift pump intank. Likely it is the original one, so it would be a good idea to replace that, and make sure you replace the tank lid Oring at the same time.

Ok. I will try that. To access the filter in the tank do you have to drop the fuel tank or can you access it from somewhere else. I gave read something about a panel under the rear seat.??

That's right; lift the seat base, and access is on the driver's side.

Thanks guys. Is the pump and filter one unit? Is it a relatively easy job to do? I'm pretty mechanically minded but is always good to know what to expect before attempting it. It's hard to find any diagrams online of whats involved

it is easy job. but my tips is keeping half tank fuel otherwise you may make the fuel everywhere.

pump and filter are separately but all in the fuel tank.

I suspect the issue is the high pressure pump on the engine anyway, but change the low pressure intank filter first and see if it helps.

You might want to test the intank pump while you have it out, and like I said, replace the tank Oring, they aren't expensive.

Yes I saw it sitting there today when I was having a look for it. Not alot of room. The garage has quoted me $1200 to do the job. It seems a little on the high side. Hence me thinking I should put the overalls on and do it myself. Are there any tricks to getting it out easier or is it basically what you see you deal with. We took the car out today and it went fine apart from if you put your foot down. Then it just lagged. It got up to 100km/hr with no effort etc. It's only when you ask it for more it won't respond. There was a funny knocking noise under the bonnet for some months prior if it struck a hill etc. I put it down to a loose timing chain but it may of been a failing fuel pressure pump. Would that be a symptom? I will change the rear filter first I guess just to eliminate that.

I see some high pressure pumps on ebay for about $80. Over here in nz the local wrecker wants $900 for a second hand unit. What are your thoughts on this

If the high pressure pump is the issue I have a little trick to repair some of them. Probably best to PM me if the intank filter change doesn't fix anything, I can work you through a few possible solutions before replacing the pump.

Yep, sounds like DET, not something you want going on inside your engine. I suspect it's likely why the original Japanese owner ditched it at auction. We get all the screwed cars over here for that reason, I think it's very expensive to fix over there so they cut their losses.

Which shop quoted you $1200? If it wasn't Soichi at www.sthitec.co.nz/ have a chat to him.
