  1. Thanks for the helpful replies guys! I'll get back with the shop and see how it plays out. It would make sense that the oil at the front is from spilled oil - the car did have an oil change fairly recently and the filter is in the stock location. I'll bring up the suggestion on the hose for the transfer case and see how that works as well. Really appreciate the help and quick responses.
  2. Hello everyone. I have an R34 GT-R Spec V here in the States - one of the few legally-imported Midnight Purple 2 ones - and recently noted it was leaking some fluid. I took it to a local mechanic and they said they could see what appeared to be leaks in two places - the transfer case and another further forward. Unfortunately here in the States it's very hard to find any shops or mechanics well-versed in Skylines but especially the R34 since only a handful have been imported legally so I was hoping I could get some help here to track down what could be causing the leaks and what fix is needed. I'd also appreciate any input on whether this is a sign of some major issue or not. The leaks aren't bad - it's mainly just a very slow drip - but of course I don't want to ignore a potential issue. The car has about 140K of mileage on it. AFAIK the engine was rebuilt in Japan about 30K ago but other than a switch to an ATS twin plate clutch and routine maintenance the driveline hasn't been messed with. The car's been running well and I haven't noticed any changes in driving behavior before or after discovering the leak. Here are photos the mechanic took of the leaks. I'd like to mention that I myself have just fairly basic mechanical knowledge (I can do basic maintenance and have done simple mechanical work like installing bolt-on parts like exhausts and such but I leave major stuff to experts) so please forgive me if I seem clueless on certain things. Thanks in advance for any help.
  3. I'm hoping someone knowledgeable can help me with an issue finding wheels that will fit my R34 GT-R. So my R34 came with Volk TE37s in 18x10.5. Not sure about the offset but I believe they're +12. It also has huge Brembo 6-piston front calipers with 370mm rotors. I wanted to replace the wheels with Volk CE28SLs - after doing research I thought a similar set in 18x10.5+15 would fit fine but unfortunately after getting them and trying to get them installed we found that the TE37s in the same size clear the calipers only because the TE37 has a wider, tapered barrel giving it a smidge more clearance than the flat barrel of the CE28. The wheels can be put on while the car is on a rack but once tightened up and with the suspension loaded the calipers rub because there's just millimeters of clearance to the wheel barrel. The spokes clear fine but not the barrel sadly. Unfortunately the only solution seems to be to find a different set of wheels and sell these CE28s. I like the look of the CE28 but they don't come in a 19-inch version that would give me the clearance I need so now I'm looking at probably getting Advan RS-DFs in 19x10.5+15. I figure in a 19-inch size that should give me the clearance I need for my BBK but as you can probably tell I'm no expert in wheel fitment since I made the mistake of getting one wheelset already that didn't work. And so I was hoping for advice from people with more knowledge than me. Unfortunately I live in a small city here in the US without any major aftermarket parts shops so I can't try before I buy - just a few chain tire stores that may or may not give me the right info. I'll probably have to order my next set of wheels online again. Being in the US there's also not a lot of people with in-depth knowledge about R34s in the first place. Any advice on how to confirm my next set of wheels will fit properly? One thing I'm wondering about is if I need to take measurements of my Brembo's what should I be measuring to help a shop figure out what would fit (unfortunately I haven't been able to pin down the exact model of Brembo BBK that's on the car)? Thanks a lot for any help you guys can give.
  4. Thanks for the replies everybody. The shop informed me this weekend that they were able to source a used compressor with lines from eBay so we're waiting on that and hopefully that will bring the search to an end. I'll post again if we're still not lucky but in the meantime take care and stay healthy!
  5. Sure, they're 92480-AA400 or AA401 for the low side hose and 92490-AA400 or AA401 for the high side.
  6. I have a shop currently finishing up work on my R32 GT-R and part of that is retrofitting an R34 AC compressor so that it can run R134 but we need the correct lines to complete the job. If anyone here has a pair of high and low pressure AC lines for an R34 GT-R I would really appreciate it if you could get in touch with me. I'm located in the US but would gladly pay the shipping. Even a set of cut lines will do as long as the end fittings for the compressor are intact because the shop says the can refurbish the lines themselves but need the fittings to properly fit the compressor. Thank you in advance for any help.
  7. Haven't seen those before. Those look really handy. I'll have to see if I can get some over here in the States. Okay, thanks for the additional input! What I'll probably do is get a least a pair of over-the-wheel straps for at least the front to go with a set or two or lasso and/or rim straps for all four corners as added insurance.
  8. Thanks for the input. I hadn't thought about that with the undertray. Like Mark said, it's a V-spec since only the MP2 V-specs like this one I have or an M-Spec Nur are legal for US import right now (although the latter will remain much more of a hassle until 2023). The trailer I'm planning on renting will be an 8.5x20 ft model with both D-rings and E-track so hopefully I can just do something like this without too much hassle:
  9. I was wondering if anyone here has had to trailer an R34 GT-R before? I'm from the US and as most of you probably know they're generally illegal here until they turn 25 years old but there are a few exceptions under our Show or Display law. I bought one of those eligible cars and currently have it stored in Canada until next year when I can bring it in. Once it's legal I'll need to trailer it since it's 2500 kilometers from where it's at to Arizona where I live. Needless to say there aren't many people I can ask here in the US who've had experience securing an R34 on a car trailer before so I was hoping someone here could give advice. I've trailered my R32 before when it needed to go to a shop for work but I don't know how the R34 compares in terms of attachment points for straps, clearances, and such. When I trailered my R32 I used an open U-haul trailer with front tire straps and then used Vulcan rim straps crossed in the rear and everything was nice and secure - that was for trips about 320 kms long. For the R34 since it'll be a much longer distance I'll probably be renting an enclosed car trailer for weather protection and security (especially since they're so rare here in the US that it'll probably be an attention magnet on the way down). Any tips or insight you guys could give as to the best way to secure the car on a trailer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  10. Thanks! Glad you liked it!
  11. Just went to the Prince and Skyline Museum in June and decided to make a Youtube video about it: This was my first attempt at a proper video so please forgive any amateurish stuff on my part.
  12. Thanks for the kind words guys! It's been a long hard slog to get her to this point and there's still some tweaks left to do but I'm happy to at least have saved her from the sad state she was in before
  13. Finally had a chance to do a proper photoshoot of the car and post an update on my blog. The biggest milestone since I seemingly fell off the face of the Earth was the engine work being completed by Black Market Racing in Phoenix where the car put out a healthy 517 whp. Not bad for a nearly three-decade old car :) I picked her back up from their shop April of last year and since then have been piecing the interior back together as well as returning some exterior elements that were missing like the front grill, fender liners, badges, and so forth. I also recently had a carbon hood put on. She's fairly complete now but there's still a few more finishing touches to sort out – most importantly replacing the AC compressor which is an absolute necessity here in Southwest Arizona where the temps put the lava pits of Mordor to shame. More details and pics here on my blog post.
  14. Thanks! I'm hoping I can get some time soon to post better pictures.
  15. Hello everybody! I'm bringing this thread back to life after a VERY long hiatus. I had to step away from the car scene for a while for various reasons but I slowly kept progressing on my Nismo R32 project. Lots of stuff has happened since my last update - the main thing being that it's running and has dynoed just over 500 whp. The interior is now complete again too but there are still more finishing touches to be done like replacing the AC compressor that broke, doing some suspension tweaks, and installing a new carbon hood. I'm hoping to do a more thorough update once the hood is on but in the meantime here are some teaser photos and if anyone wants more detail as to my long hiatus feel free to check out my blog at 23GT.net
