  1. The foreshore or its proximaty has been a cruise strip for near on 60 years as far as I can tell. My mother and father told stories from their childhood about it too. It is all media hype. Mind you if I owned your val Smitty I'd put retractable belts into it. Didn't need to put them in the hot rod but she got 5 retractable seatbelts (2 front 3 back) with pre tensioners, the pillars in the shell reineforced to take the impact from a crash and double burst proof locks. I like to hoon but I like my passengers to be safe too.
  2. YEAR: 1990 MODEL: R31 Skyline S3 RB30E BODY TYPE: Sedan COLOUR: Silver MODS: Genie Extractors, 2 inch lukey exhaust 2 inch lowered springs Silo Interior (well most of it, I'm still missing some little trim bits) Almost a complete stereo system (MP3 deck, splits, speakers, sub etc) once I finish installing. I've got to say I don't really call my R31 a classic, not when I sit it next to my zed or my hot rod but hey its all perspective is it not. And as someone said L series engines never die, they just get noiser.
  3. Screw the NOS. Tripple dual throat carbs, aggressive cam, agressively mapped dizy and timing, agressive head porting, tune length extractors with matched exhaust, bore the bastard or even drop an L28 in with a diesel cam to increase the capacity and then do everything else I talked about. I've seen a 400HP Carbied L28 in a 240Z. You don't need fake power. Make it the old fashion way with massive amounts of fuel. Mind you a 30km road trip was a 20 dollar fuel bill. But hey it went.
  4. If you have trouble moving the engine post it on one of the zed forums. I'm sure someone will be after a good motor for a 240z or 260z.
  5. Its very easier to see how a 3L uses less fuel then a 2.5. Anyone here ever owned a L series powered nissan or datsun? You might as well own a V8 for the fuel they used. Its to do with the way they deliver their power, how they are cam'd etc. Lots of factors but yes. As for peak power its a bad guide in my book. A good area under the graph (so to speak) in the HP curve could make a car with alot less HP be a faster car as it has more grunt available initially and over the entire rev range rather then peaking. Knew a Mx5. Had the flatest power graph I've ever seen. Great track car. Horrible drag car. Pends on the style your after. Supras have no boot as opposed to the R34. I know it sounds stupid now but you want to take a special someone away a boot is something you need. Actually like the look of the supra over the R34. Thats about where my knowledge ends.
  6. Alrighty here are some old pics of the zed and some broken down pics of the old girl. And yes that engine in it is what you think it is. If you ask why the simply answers are, cost (A working series two VP cost 200 bucks and that got me a tidy engine and a very tight T5 box plus loom to hack apart, plus I've been given two other engines working for nothing), easier to put in then an RB by far (I did do research and the physical dimensions and what I had to mod to make it fit legally) and availability of parts and upgrades. I've no got a rear heavy car, as the engine is very low slung and so far back in the engine bay its not funny, with a great power to weight ratio. Besides each to their own. Breifly before I pulled it apart. Manual conversion -280zx box and nissan patrol clutch/flywheel Extractors and exhaust 240 SUs - Pollution gear mysteriously went missing. 280zx electric dizy Baby Cam Sound System (can't be bothered being more specific with that one) The heavy tinting After market headlights (crystal type) - SO worth it! Recommend that one immensly. Also started replacing bulbs with LED bulbs. Then odds and ends like black interior etc. Nothing exciting really. What will be done at the end. Rear end of post Plan for end The 3.8 V6 with T5 - Already in but wiring isn't. 4 Pot front calipers Rear disc conversion - means a brake booster conversion too Single piece guards and light cones Rust repairs and repaint obviously Custom exhaust - Already made and on Custom performance chip - mate builds them for fun so I'll let he play with my computer Bigger 3 core radiator Then the added extras Thermos, strut braces, recaro drivers seat, lowered springs (as nose sits up way high with the lack of engine weight to weigh it down), new shocks, bushes, eventually an interior, new rubber kit, etc

Just some quick snaps of my recent buy of an R31
  8. I don't know about film but I do believe with photography they can't ask you to stop taking photos, the most they can do is ask you to leave the scene. I believe they need to arrest you to stop you taking photos. You can be civily sued though. I was under the impression with film if you are in a public area then you give up any rights to privacy. Basically if you don't want to be on film don't leave home.
  9. If they want your sale they will get a RWC. It will cost them next to nothing and be no effort. If they refuse to do it then its up to you.
  10. I've had a cop try and book me the day my car got a blueslip. I was literally driving home from the RTA, with brand new plates on the car, the blueslip in the passenger seat. I did kind of wave it in his face, snatch my license back out of his hands (he was being an arse) and say some unflattering things. Not one of my better moments. That car sort of got victimised for RBTs quite alot till it died. IT kind of became amusing as everytime I drove it through warners bay I'd get pulled over. A young cop was always seeming to be doing the RBT and he was always so apologetic about it and seemed nervouse about it all. I used to just look in the mirror and see who was riding shotgun. Oh this car was a Datsun Stanza with no mods at all by the way. Other then that the average age of the cars I currently own is 70 (hell currently I own 5 cars with an average age of 30. Oldest is 70 and the youngest is Dec 07 - Totaly will soon be down to 2 registered cars and one project. My wife hopes anyway) and I've been through a few of the blitz in newcastle. I've found three things happened. The cop would look at the car and me the driver and wave me through (usually what would happen in the zed - Older cops like those old girls (76 260Z), they would pull me over open the bonnet do a walk around, comment on trye wear and send me on my way (they have no idea what they are looking at and unless its spitting fluids there isn't alot they can do as the car predates most of the ADRs they book people on) or if its the old girl (the 38') want to have a look at whats done cause they have always wanted to build one. Its the newer cars that kills you in defect blitzes. So many rules and regulations to abide by and unless you build out there cars you've probably never even seen half the rules and they know that. So they defect to that. You'll never see them try and defect a hotrod as most owners of hotrods know the ADRs back the front and sideways as they have built their cars to get around the ADR problems unique to them. It would be a costly conversation if they did try though.
  11. I must admit this won't help the cause much but when I get pulled over I stand up for myself fairly aggressively when I know I've done nothing wrong. I'm quite willing to argue each point. I tend to become blind to the situation and become rather bull headed about it all. but I've found that cops who meet someone who can calmly argue each point without loosing their attention and sound more articulate about it all then themselves start to doubt the situaiton and are more willingly to issue cautions.
  12. Congratulations on beating the cops. Its always encouraging to hear that someone is able to do it.
  13. Well Hi there peoples. Most people call me Shaddow, everyone but my wife and mother. Anyway I'm a car enthusiast from teenage years. I've owned a few different makes and models over time. Currently I've just bought an R31 which I plan to play with mildly as its my newish daily now that my old celica is past it. Ontop of that I've a 260Z which I'm rebuilding slowly, I have ownership of a 38 chev (its more my mates then mine these days), a 07 corolla (though thats really the wifes) and of course my celica which I'm yet to get rid off. Hmm dune buggy I hear written in the wind. Anyway the skyline is nothing flash. Its an executive auto. It has genie extractors, 2" lowered springs with new monroe on each corner (thats how I bought it) and its straight. I've got a mini spool in a spare diff coming my way from a friend, a stereo which was the zeds lying around going into it and what ever other odds and ends I can pick up to make the ride nicer and go better (yes I know a stereo doesn't make it go better but makes the driving more pleasant). Don't ever want to turbo it but open to some ideas to make it nicer and go better. Oh and here are some pics of it.
