It's always a tragedy when something like this happens. As other posters have said, my bet is on the wheel nuts being incorrectly tightened.

Actually, I'll just add that if the rims have sufficient width, they can be any colour you want!

Ha ha... I always wait for the fuel system to pressurize in any EFI as well, otherwise it won't start properly.
