  1. + 205,000 hits since last nite + and is all over google, haha
  2. Hi guys, Just thought I would post up this email my friend has posted on his blog by an American Phd Nuclear Scientist last nite regarding the "dangerous reactor situation." Since then his blog has had over 175,000 hits (since last nite), the BBC have rehashed the info and the scientist Dr Josef Oehmen has done many interviews with journalists. Its a very LONG but reassuring read. Why I am not worried about Japans Nuclear Reactors - Morgs At Large hope everyone is safe, good luck in the black outs, also if anyone wants to watch tv during these back outs NHK world have their own live stream app. cheers
  3. unfortunately not. I sent a letter of demand to an old company politely demanding unpaid wages (as advised by the Tokyo wages / rights department) , this was sent as kaitome. I explained to the lady in the post office I didnt want to write my address on the form as I didnt want the company to know where I lived, she was fine with this. 2 weeks later i received a kaitome from their lawyer saying that I would not be getting any money blah blah blah, and any further "threats" would result in them trying to get my visa cancelled and i deported, even though they weren't my sponser ...? As confirmed by the inlaws, if you are registered in your ku / shi - yakusho (at your current address) you are easily findable. My advice dont update your torokusho ! , but this can / will lead to many complications , eg: being put in the back of a police car and driven back to your old address to show them your visa seal... then having to explain to them they need to drive you back to where they picked you up from as thats where you live. haha cheers
  4. If you are registered at your local city office your previous employer will be able to find out your current address without too much trouble anyways........ , so i think you moght be wasting your time.
  5. oh yeah, the above is a joke also
  6. mt buller jockへ 馬鹿ではないんですか? オーストラリア人ので勿論皆は(殆んど)漢字読めないんです 今度何か言いたい事だったら 誰でも読めるように英語でタイプしてくれない ...? ありがたい to mount buller jock, next time, so everyone can read, can you not type in english?, we are australian. thanking you kindly
  7. beer baron, we seem to be agreeing alot recently! haha to the original poster, if you are serious about learning jp. start off with an online course while you are waiting for you tafe short course / uni course to start. however if you are planning on doing all this work just for a week / s holiday I say save your time and watch tv instead. If however you are planning on going and staying for 1-death +/- years study your ass off! and get ready for the everyday battle! haha
  8. waits for someone to start a thread about japanese drivers / turning their lights off when coming to a stop at traffic lights so i can tell my story about a trip back home and doing this force of habit and explaing to oz police about why i did this . . .
  9. they are used quite often if someone pulls out in front and there may be a need to break. the driver usually flashes them to either apologise and or make the people behind aware. also the above
  10. take lots of tshirts and shorts and deodorant, its rather hot and humid at that time . .
  11. munkyboy. This suica card or also pasmo cards people are talking about are just an electronic card that you can buy and instead of buying individual tickets / fare adjusting each ticket everytime you transfer or enter / leave a station you put the suica / pasmo card in one of the ticket machines then you can "charge it" which means putting money / credit on the card. Before going through the tickets gates you just touch your wallet with the card in it on the special area and the gates open and tells you how much credit / money you have left on your card. Nearly everyone who lives in Japan has one of these cards. they are more convenient, for a tourist though its probably easier just to buy the cheapest ticket and then fare adjust it later. those cards can be used anywhere in japan on any form of public transport except taxis, boats and the shinkansen. Then can also be used to buy things in supermarkets/ convenient stores and vending machines near train stations.

    Spending Money

The average entrance fee to a Tokyo club is 3000 - 4000 yen (sometimes as high as 6500, depending whats going on there) , can beer = 700 / 800yen , cocktails minimum 800yen entrance(3500~) +beers(maybe 8 6400~) + food afterwards (1000+~) + train fare(500~) or taxi (2000~+) = 12900yen = 173.80AUD as beerbaron said a good meal in tokyo is about 8000yen (id even say a little more depending where and what you order), you would probably eat out every night. 1 club + dinners alone = 600 dollars (for a 4 night stay) then add, public transport / taxi rides + breakfast + lunch + vending machine drinks anything else you want to buy at the moment 700AUD = 51,000yen for a good time in Tokyo, including clubs , shopping and food. For 2 nights 6-700AUD just might be enough, but for 4 nights no way.
  14. thanks everyone for your recommendations, Ive certainly got a lot of research to do in the next few days. and a bunch of restaurants that I must try in the near future Mr Oizo , I need a house before someone can cook at it unfortunately , just returned from Japan, so as soon as i get a job, a house will come.
