Hi guys,

As per the title I'm trying to get around the rubbing issue of running a 265mm - 280mm wide slick with the stock Nissan R32 GTR front uprights/dog legs/goosenecks (whatever you want to call them )

We're moving up to an 18x10.5" and or 18x11" Enkei RPF1 or TE37 SL rim and want to run either a Dunlop or Michelin slick to suit.

Are there any companies out there that make these to accommodate a wider rim?

I've done a bit of searching so apologies if this has been covered elsewhere.

Ollie.

About 40 Nissan/Datsun Z cars will be doing the Regularity, a couple of them will be on the black flag lap time limit which is ? somewhere around 2: 35. Most are 240/260 Zeds from back in the early '70's. Bathurst is brilliant, anyone from here participating?

	Hi there,

I made a quick search and haven't found any general topic about the Ring, only old stuff - so I'm making a new one as my Skyline's done her first lap yesterday !
If something already exists please accept my apologies, and feel free to move my post

Anyone here has already driven on it ? If you have videos please share them !
Also, any advice on my driving will be appreciated, even if conditions and traffic were not optimal for this lap !

	Cheers, Alex

Building a decent engine and am tossing up a roling shell vs making changes to the current car (as I need a different box, maybe tubbed, cage upgrade, 5 stud conversion, brake upgrade etc) and one thing I'm unsure about is what to do with the cage situation.

Car currently has a welded single piece half cage with a diagonal in the back stays and the main hoop plus a harness bar. It's bolted down to welded plates in the car. So maybe a bit better than your average bolt in half cage?

I'm not competing at the highest level and if I do keep this chassis had considered the following options.

- Have current cage modified with front legs/side intrusion and some basic roof bars.
- Full AGI bolt in.
- Find a rolling shell that has all the other gear including a full cage.

Is it feasible to have an existing cage modified in that way or does it just turn out costing as much as a full bolt in?

Current Cage, yes that rear firewall hole and parcel shelf is now sheeted in.

Taking the 350Z to Challenge Bathurst , 20 minute sessions, and this time rather than run true semi's I've decided to try something that will still work if it's wet. After a lot of research the Falken Azenis RT615+ seems to be one of the best but it appears that Falken don't bring in the bigger sizes in 18" WTF. Federal 595 RSRRS-RR are the current version of the venerable 595 but I have no idea where they are in the grip heirarchy now. Anyone with recent experience with these or others? If there is interest I'll give feed back.

I did search for any discussion on it but nothing turned up.

Has anyone done any major aerodynamics work on any cars and logged the results?

I managed to pick up a copy of "Race Car Aerodynamics: Designing for Speed" which I'm yet to read but the basic improvements I'm thinking about would involve a splitter, partial under tray and a diffuser. Evo's seem to have good results with roof placed vortex generators which is probably worth experimenting with aswell.

Lastly, and probably least important, does modifying the aerodynamics exclude you from certain racing classes?

My car is just for fun, I'm just curious about the rules relating to aero.

Thanks all

CAMS scrutineers are currently cracking down on poorly mounted extinguishers. This bracket has recently passed CAMS scrutineering at Sandown and Philip Island. The comment made was “that’s what I like to see, nuts and bolts”

Because I couldnt find any for sale i developed my own and had a few extras made. The first batch have all sold quick to the VIC based guys so i am thinking about getting some more made if anyone is interested?? These will go for $90 ea inc M6 high tensile bolts and nuts. Postage is about $10 nationwide but will confirm with your postcode.

Suits R33, R34 platforms and also should fit M34 Stagea?

	Hi All,

Hope this is the right place to post this. I'm looking for some advice on how to remove the adhesive used to hold the sound deadening in place (the yellowy/brown reside where the sound deadening was).

So I've used dry ice to remove as much sound deadening as possible however the residue is insanely hard to get off. I want to get everything as tidy as the finished bit on you can see on the nearside wheel arch however before I give myself cancer from inhaling copious amounts of fumes from some type of industrial strength solvent, I wanted to see if anyone knows of a better way.

I feel like this shouldn't be as hard as I'm finding it lol

	Hi guys,

I'm building up quite a large display of not only 1/10 AutoArt & Kyosho models but 1/43 Ebbro & Kyosho scale model GTR's. I was interested in getting some small custom plaques made for my display which included small details about each car including their VIN tag or build number. (For the Australian Group A cars only)

I've checked out the GTR-Registry and I cannot find an answer so I'm asking if anyone from the forum may know the VIN or or build number to each of the Australian Group A race cars? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Challenge Bathurst weekend 17,18 Nov 2018, cost $1690, 2:36 minimum lap speed, log booked and road registered cars eligible, share garage. More info at the Challenge Bathurst website, the Z Car Club Q being an original contributor is allocated a number of places with one entry being cancelled hence this offer. The club's contact is David d1770@tpg.com.au for EOI's, this spot is only available through him. A great well organised event you will get plenty of laps with a mostly well behaved group of Datsuns and quite a few other makes too, it's Bathurst and will never be cheaper.

Can anybody tell me if the rb20det and rb25det exhaust manifolds are interchangable?

So...... My car has evolved into something that I definitely don't want to drive on the road anymore, so I need to look for a tow car.

There are some very good deals on 2001-2002 VX Clubsport R8s are the moment, with most people asking around the $17-18k mark.

I know that there are quite a few people on here that tow using Holden or Ford V8s, and I wanted to get your opinions on them.

Are they suitable to tow a 500kg trailer and 1500kg worth of car and accessories? That's 2000kgs being towed by a 1700-1800kg car. Not ideal, right?

Well, Liam and Larry have added the inaugural Targa Great Barrier Reef trophy to their pool room this weekend. While Quinn/Catford were super unlucky, breaking down on transport back after the last stage, Liam and Larry had been super all weekend on a brand new course and were running comfortably second when the porsche stopped, moving them to first in the largest class.

These guys have been quietly racing their 33 GTR for years now, battling some bad luck at times but being overwhelmingly quick and careful, resulting in some great finishes.

	Well done guys

Here's the Cairns post front page from yesterday (and no, that's not them in the race suits...)

I'm building an SR20, DM is one of the places I've talked to and as his focus is on circuit racing engines, rather than street/drag like a lot of other workshops I am interested in potentially using him to do the bottom end rather than doing it myself with a friend who's an engine builder by trade, but not experienced with SRs.

He's mentioned he has Nismo internal testing data from the Super GT cars, and as he has one of them (an S15) and appears to be in the high end circuit space it all seems to check out.

As it's not a cheap decision and I'm not local to him I was hoping to hear from anyone who's had experience with him.

https://www.facebook.com/dmmsydney/

At a cross roads with the S13, I've done up a parts list for what I need/want to take the car to the next level and there's easily 15-20k in parts and labour for a built motor, box and diff swap to handle it, and brakes to slow it all down + misc bits. Then there's the time required to do all of those things as I always do the bits I can myself.

For that money I could buy another S14/S15 track car with the vast majority of that already done (motor/box/diff at least), but with the risk of it not being done properly or being a time bomb - I have made the call to stick with S chassis/Nissan as I like the fun/challenge of RWD and it's a platform I know and can support. 33 or 34 could also be an option.

The end goal would be VTAC/WTAC in Clubsprint + various other sprint type events, and maybe some enduros, and to be in the upper end of the field where possible. Time attack series means the cars must retain brand of engine/cylinder count from original chassis.

How the hell do people make a call on how far to take the current platform vs knowing when to get into something else?

I have been googling away the past week trying to get a decent snap shot of the brands of semis slicks used these days. I have not considered the likes of the Federal 595RSR as a semi slick, though they are a very good tyre.

Their are loads out there and in the 17" diameter range you seem able to get them for $300-350 a tyre vs the $550 that Yokohama and Dunlop wants for their tyres. (I have used a 255/40/17 as the baseline tyre for comparison)

So I have not gone into huge details, just the brand and links. If people have used any of the more obscure models then be great if you could post feedback or results of any decent OS tyre tests you have come across.

Dunlop

DZ03G

Dunlop DZ03G Link

Comment - Seem to be recognised as almost being as quick as the AO50, but like all Dunlops good in the wet and quiet.

Bridgestone

RE55

http://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/motorsport/RE55s.aspx

Comment - Still decent enough things though really need to roll out an update. No idea what is happening with the RE-11S

Yokohama

AO50

http://www.yokohama.com.au/motorsports/

Comment - Almost the track day standard tyre in Aus. Great grip but grossly expensive at ~$550

Nitto

NT01

http://www.nittotire.com/Tire/nt01#size

Comment - Seem insanely cheap at $350 a tyre

Michelin

Pilot Super Sport

Michelin Motorsport page

Comment - Said to have almost Pilot Sport Cup level of grip

Seem to be the rage for the best road tyre you can put on fast track/street cars

Federal

FZ-201 & FZ-202

http://www.federalmotorsporttires.com/index.php?page=fz-201

Comment - Up around the $500 a corner and not a great range of sizes available.

Kuhmo

V70A

http://fsport.com.au/kumho_v70a.html

Seem to be used a bit on control tyre circles

Toyo

Proxes R888

http://toyotires.com/tire/pattern/proxes-r888-high-performance-competition-tires

Seem to be better at shorter events like hill climbs where grip is there from near cold

Hankook

Ventus TD Z221

Hankook Motorsport page

Comment - Seem popular in the US. AO50 type money and look to be of equivelant performance to AO50 for sprints

Silverstone

FTZ Sport Type RR

Dealer link

Similar pricing to Nitto, ~$250.

Just starting to do a few track days. My track has 3 long straights followed by hairpins so i dont' wanna be diff locking all time.

With the heel and toe technique - Ive got a r33 gts-t with evo brembo front and rear. The brakes are so good, it only takes a light touch at the top to get it to stop. My accelerator pedal is much lower down than the brake so im having big problems with heel and toe to downchange gears (im not even getting it close)

I was going to put a layer or two on the accelerator pedal to try and the get the same sort of height, but even with this the brakes are heaps sensitive.

	Any suggestions ?

	thanks

I have a new alcantara wheel and want to know what gloves might suit. Car is driven mostly on club sprint days and I'm not a massive fan of either the full blown logo'ed up 'race car driver' gloves or the Alan Partridge string back gloves look. I do not wear a race suit. I would consider them for the road as have darkest legal tint. So what choice for the gentleman racer?

Being serious I want grip comfort and to protect my beautiful wank wheel from wear.

Many thanks.
