Hi all, new to the 4g63t world and I figured this would be the go-to section to ask questions. I am purchasing a vehicle running a 4g63t from an Evo 3. Apparently it was running wonderfully although untuned until parked up 2 years ago. It had been started regularly but not driven on the road. The motor and turbo (eBay spec GT3582 A/R .70 'Anti Surge' turbo) look, sound and seem generally healthy. The problem is that the car now makes no boost. The turbo spins and spools happily with no shaft play or funky noises, the motor revs happily but no boost gets to the motor. My thoughts are that there is an issue with the external wastegate or actuator, BOV or a serious boost leak. Would I be correct in assuming so?

Need help deciding. Evo 6 vs fully worked R34 GTT

Hi guys! Geez its been a long time since ive logged on.

Ill cut the long story short. I have the option of choosing a midnight blue evo 6 with a power fc, heavy duty clutch and all the necessary mods to make it around 200kw at the wheels. Very clean and looks great.

The other option is a fully worked R34 GTT stroked to a 2.8. Big ass gtx turbo on it. Fully forged internals, GTR gear box. Its had about 40k of work done to it. 450hp at 13psi or 750hp at 19psi.

If you guys were in my shoes, what would be the better car?

If only the R34 was a GTR then obviously my mind would be made up lol

With the recent price rise in GT-R's and the dwindling supply of clean vehicles, will more people be turning the to Evo for a 4WD Japanese sports car?

I believe prices have gone beyond the budget of the average punter, with the BNR32 into the 30-40k range, BCNR33 25k+, and I won't even mention R34's. This is expensive for what you get in terms of performance, reliability and parts attainability. Of course you can't go past the heritage, looks and presence of a GT-R, but there are certainly better value choices.

Will people in the market for a GT-R begin turning to Evo's due to their lower price and (arguably) better performance? Will there be a knock-on effect in which Evo prices begin to rise too?

As someone in their 20's and saving for a house, there's no way I could justify a GT-R anymore, but an Evo seems like a reasonable compromise.

Hey guyzzzzzzzzzzzz

Was wanting some low end response from my evo, (to gain some better initial acceleration from a stop), was thinking of cosworth 264 camshafts and tomei valve springs...

Initially i had planned on doing fuel pump and injector upgrade for an e85 tune, but thought of doing cams first so i can get more out of the tune. Ive also been told that ill get more response out of the car by switching to e85. Thinking whether to just dump the whole camshafts/valve springs idea and save a few pennies and just get the e85 tune, or to go for the camshafts as well.

Anyone got any suggestions on how i go about this?

Currently running 180awkw @21psi on 98 octane stock turbo tuned for response.
Current mods:

- turbo back exhaust
- bigger intake pipe between maf and turbo

- HKS panel

- Tune

I dont really plan on going hard out on the top end power, that would just be a bonus, im really keen for some good response and decent gains along the rev range(especially low to mid).

Cheers (:

Hello forum users,

My current Evo 8 setup produces 260 awkw on a built 2L engine. My plan is to upgrade the turbo and the upgrade should produce around 370-380 awkw on E85.

My question is whether the standard 6 speed gearbox would be able to tolerate the above mentioned power level?

I have never launched the car and do not intend to in the future. Will the gearbox be able to cope with the power in normal everyday driving?

My preference is not to convert to a 5 speed or a dogbox.

Anyone know how to get the front bar (evo 7) to fit over a Ultra racing front member brace. The brace is bolted up, and theres a bit of clearance between the FMIC and the brace, but for some reason my front bar keeps whacking across the front of the brace.

Im starting to think the front brace was made for the 8/9 and not the 7s front bar, since the 7s nose doesnt stick out as far as the 8s or 9s. Not too sure though.

If theres no way around it, im going to start hacking off bits

Hi guys

Anyone here own or come from an Evo X?

I'm thinking about buying a new Evo X MR and using it as a daily driver

Looking for feedback on reliability, how well the interior holds up over time to creeks and rattles, any issues with unwanted attention, does every ricer give you the 'run me' stare at the lights, do i have to worry about where to park it etc

I went and drove one today and really liked it. It felt like a baby GTR. What blew me away was the grip on turn in and how fast it changes direction without fuss, it's about as darty as i remember an Exige feeling. The dual clutch is very smooth in auto mode and enough low down torque to get up to the speed limit quickly in higher gears, which is what i want in a daily

Equipement levels are extremely good for the money too - cornering xenons, bluetooth, nav, mp3, rain sensing wipers, full leather, reverse cam etc

Okay so here's the scenario:

cold starts: (first symptom)

- When warming up the car i notice the temp gauge going up slowly, however when i turn my steering wheel, it dips back down to cold (only a minor movement, so i ignored it)

Under heavy driving: (second symptom)

- While cruising on 40ks per hour, i downshifted @ WOT to join the road, and noticed the temp gauge drop from its normal position (roughly around the middle) all the way to cold, then slowly started climbing back up again....

Starting to worry me now, i dont know if its a bad thermostat, lose connection, bad water pump or bad radiator...however if it was the radiator then i would of fried the motor a long time ago. I dont want to fry the gaskets if it is the water pump. Not too sure, anyone have any insight?

The fluctuation usually happens when i push the car. Under normal driving it seems fine....for now, (although ive just noticed it today, yet to see if it acutally fluctuates while crusing)

Note: just changed my radiator to a brand new one, old one cracked.

They are both the exact same in terms of specs, but i cant seem to find any detailed description online There must be a reason why mitsubishi used a 9.8t hotside on the evo 7/8 as oppose to the 10.5 found on the evo 6 rs? Evo 6 turbos are marginally cheaper than 8mr and 9 turbos too.

Id ask on the evolutions forums, but they are so hard to navigate through, and most of them are from the US and dont own evo 6/7 since they were illegal over there.

Cheers guys.
