  1. No he'd been out there many times prior in his previous RX7. The article of it in Zoom magazine, the pictures were taken there! Smooth? There is no smooth in this case. There is driving by feel all the way around the track on the limit the whole time, with this style of fast.
  2. Stretch your budget or make some offers here and there. It honestly can't hurt. This is the best buy out there right now just looking at ads: http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/privat...id=123915A94F5D Quite a rare colour, a series 3 with genuine KMs verified by log books! How many can you say have that? Regardless what the rest have on the clock you basically have to ignore it.
  3. Sure is. I can say with confidence it'll improve on that by seconds next time it's out. He has driven around Wakefield Park over the years more than most of us have changed underwear! These are in the 7s:
  4. According to his site, he has a diploma. Even a PhD doesn't mean you are a signatory. So that's irrelevant. Groupies shouldn't fight battles for their stars.
  5. Nothing modified in that way for that year model is street legal, especially with an after market ECU, unless emissions tested and signatory engineer approved.
  6. Or you can compare Mazda's current rotary offering, the RX8, to "Datsun's"* current GTR, which is currently dominating all motorsport at the production level. *Somehow that word is supposed to be disrespectful, maybe we should call Mazda the "Toyo Kogyo" which produced wonderful things like the Mazdago as Japan industrialised. Anyhow, we agree given your final statement. Finally we got there, LOL.
  7. Most of my information comes straight from the horse's mouth. I respect the man, his knowledge and his skill. I don't like the disrespect. He has built a very nice thing himself, certainly something to be proud. People will ignore that, bash it and resent him for his words if he carries on. And from what I can see it only runs 1.08s at WP, thus far: http://ausrotary.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=91985 A somewhat meagre challenge for a decent drive and a mild GTR. A much quicker car is a black bridge port RX7 from SA, which runs quick times and has 350rwkw. Also what is a life long dedication for some men, is but a minor hobby for others. Keep it in perspective.
  8. You came in here. You rattled the cage. You posted selective facts (some of which were incorrect/exaggerated). Then you attempt to discredit while not properly addressing any points. All of that speaks volumes. t's easy to post a few calls on the net. Take your car to a few tracks and see how you do. There are plenty of road registered GTRs running amazing times in Australia. I'm not sure any one has even seen how your car goes, so a comparison is a touch difficult?
  9. A bit of selective history with a mix of 3/4 rotors and turbo charged cars there. That Racing Beat car made 530BHP @ 1 bar, actually. The record took place in 1986. The engine made its mark not in a racing series, but in a short burst. That car ran 1mph faster than the fastest Honda in the world in that catagory. Which also deserves respect. But where does this end? The rotary is an interesting, but flawed, engine. Its motorsport achievements in the various categories it took advantage of (Le Mans - in what fashion did they win? Where did they qualify?) do deserve respect. But there's no point deluding yourself over it while bashing Nissan's domination in Group A. It looks a touch weak. While the rotary didn't compete in Group A, it had plenty of time to do so during the 1980s (the FC). The FD won the short lived production series races a few times (and blew up in one of them) - which really was exceptional work from Allan Horsley. The onus is on you to demonstrate why the two rotor didn't consistently compete at the peak in a top level series where engine power levels were above 500BHP for sustained period. Just leave the bashing out of it and you won't have any issues.
  10. Price is not always a reflection of quality. You just need to realise you are taking a punt with any car. A mate of mine bought a black 1995 R33 GTR V-Spec for only $19k a couple of years ago. Very neat car. It had a little over 100,000KMs showing on the clock and the condition appeared to reflect that. It was very original right down to the exhaust. It cost him basically nothing in maintenance while he owned it, he advertised it for $21k recently and it sold very quickly for close to that. There are bargains out there. And there are expensive cars that are rubbish. For some reason people apply a general rule to GTRs that you need to pay more for a good one, it's simply not the case every time and you can certainly get ripped of applying that theory. Either way, the cars are old, have had a hard time at some point in their long lives and will likely need maintenance of sorts. In saying that, there are no inherit weaknesses in the GTR and the RB26 often gets a bad wrap it doesn't deserve. Budget for maintenance no matter what you spend on the car. Remember, GTRs are very difficult cars to sell. There's just too many for sale! Very often the lower advertised price of one just reflects the sellers frustration with selling and want to get rid of it at the right price, not the car itself! There are many of them for sale that will likely be for sale for a long time. So take your time shopping and getting a feel for prices, be ready to negotiate.
  11. Decent post. But remember, Group A was where the money was. We all know (and you of all people in particular) that the force fed 13B would not have lasted at those power levels (600BHP+) to be competitive.
  12. Do the prices you're quoting include GTR tax Nismoid? See what I did there.
  13. Great read mate. My R32 GTR heads to ESP on Monday for installation of R34 N1 manifolds (bigger than normal), R33 dumps and -5s and a tune. I did have HKS 2530s but one of them is dead. In addition to the dyno differences, I would put that kind of lower level power down to a worn engine (mine made similar power on HKS 2530s), it will certainly be an interesting comparison between you and I as the set ups are very similar. Good luck with the next stage of your build.
  14. Because any female that makes you do that isn't worth it.
  15. Black R34 GTT with rims and no spoiler driving onto Canberra Ave at 5PM. Looked neat. Was running a rego exhaust LOL.
  16. Correct. Andrew @ Kudos selles them for only $2420 brand new, or something like that. Croydon are $2790 (if you email them). cjmotor on eBay has a set of 2530s for like $4.5k.
  17. cjmotor has a set on eBay right now.
  18. Bargain Dave. What were the symptoms that made it so hard to drive?
  19. LOL some people are confusing themselves here. Boost is noted pressure at a tangent to flow. Simple as that.
  20. Exactly there are just far too many variables.
  21. I saw your car last night on Northbourne! (I was driving a green BA XR8 ute) Looked sweet.
  22. Yeah I understand that. Your post just made me rethink how laggy I would find the -5s. That is a good thread on that topic: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/7-...7s+vs&st=30 I guess going from 2530s I will find the -5s quite acceptable. -5s it is!
  23. Pretty bloody confusing... I'm about to order turbos, will it be -5s or -7s? I wonder how much different in rev terms they are in response?
  24. You say that the post above I mean 'changing' the R32 GTR airbox! Pretty obvious that word was missing. I found the ad for my car in Japan and it had 45,000 wiped off it in Australia. You only need to look at the more honest Canadians and the kms on their R32 GTRs.
  25. People have run as high as 360rwkw with a stock R32 GTR airbox so I would suggest it isn't entirely necessary. I'd be worried about that level of power killing the 20yo bottom end. In reality what it is, that most of the cars have huge kms on them also, despite what the clock says.
