  1. 70 cars, only 4 groups so 17 or 18 cars on track at once which IMO is too many for time attack at winton. So hard to get a clean lap given the big time spread 17 cars will have. only every second session is timed. Sounds more like a happy laps day. Honestly if I knew this I wouldn't be going.... but I hope it's better than expected!! would they consider running 5 groups x12min instead of 4 groups x15min or similar I wonder?
  2. Bringing the new (to me) old 5 speed evo along. Punted around doing 32s with an SST, a turbo and e85 on the old one. Will see how much slower I am with stock bits and 98
  3. ^^ that's impressive. my street tyres are Dunlop star specs. tread wear is 220 from memory. great tyres but would not be that great on a track I suspect. to be competitive on streets you would need AD08 or RS3 I guess. maybe the new RE-11 bridgestones. nothing else will keep up quite as well. So I would either just enter the next class up, knowing I am going to get whipped (and a higher entry fee), or forget about it entirely. Then again in the next class up, I could remove all the seats (that is about 40kg for my car) and maybe fab up some sort of front splitter. might be worth 0.5sec a lap haha Michael - heh I didn't drive home on E85. I was well and truly out. filled up in Benalla, I was honestly running on fumes by then.
  4. yeah I went through nearly 100L of United on the weekend. it's thirsty work. about 2/3 of a tank driving up there and I put 95 in the tank for the drive home as I had run out! I did the shootout on fumes pretty much. I'm not sure I will do any more TA events though - I would have to buy sticky street tyres specifically for it, and I would never use them for anything else. I run semis for track days, so this would mean a new set of street tyres and another set of wheels to put them on. So yep I'll probably just stick to PIARC and WRX/SAU and AROCA days I think. After seeing the RS3s that some guys used for WTAC last year, they are toast. so that's pretty much $1k+ on tyres for one event and then throw them in the bin. At least with the Mediums I get 8-10 track days out of them, which is usually a year for me. I pretty much run them until they fall apart
  5. Yep i drove it up there, drove it in to Benalla Sat night, and drove it home Sunday evening. can't get much more "street" that that Was running Hankook Z221 265 18s. hards initially and then softs. car was sooo not dialled in for softs, i seemed to slide a lot; just couldn't get them to hook up nicely I think the A050s felt better to be honest (medium compound) Drove up and raced on the Hards as with 2 people and all the seats in, 6 jerries of E85, i didn't have room for more wheels. and i wanted to bring the trusty Hards with me in case i sucked on the soft tyres. Yeah the street class guys were pretty good in terms of rules. it's not like they would have enforced anything anyway.... the odd front splitter might have protruded more than 50mm, and the odd car might have been slightly underweight, but honestly it's not going to change the results at all.
  6. Great bunch of guys/girls and cars there. but yeah they really need to work on the format. getting 4 sessions per day when there are less than 30 cars is pretty ordinary. Personally I would have preferred 15min sessions, and run once an hour rather than waiting 90mins between runs. That was just silly. "Street Class" (for the 3 or 4 street legal cars actually in it ) was hotly contested. Richo, congrats+++ on the time mate... you came out of nowhere, having run high 33s on Saturday and I thought it was going to be an Evo clean sweep for 1st->5th pretty much. Then BOOM out comes a low 32. My optimum lap time was pretty similar to your best, but I simply couldn't string a good enough lap together, always managing to fluff up a corner somewhere. But massive respect for the way you piloted that thing around on the limit with RWD. I was shooting for low 32s but couldn't get there, finishing up with a 32.9 in the end. Still, not too shabby for a 1600kg+ car Was a fun weekend though, minimal traffic and the weather was perfect. Next bout will be on street tyres which will even things out a bit I guess.
  7. I do all my Evo customer tuning there, so I don't need a dyno run But I might have to come down for a cheapie 3 year renewal!! :) And I'll likely end up giving the boys a hand loading and unloading cars etc. Not the most generous dyno in town - be keen to see how it compares to the usual ones you Skyline guys use
  8. Great effort mate I was in the black Evo 10 in your group... this machine is awesome, and has the times to back up the build. I'm sure the times will fall even more when you've settled in to the car more, too. Congrats and good luck at WTAC
  9. Hi guys I was wondering if anyone had a hand commander unit i could borrow for a few days? I'm checking over a mate's car for him after running a bit more boost and I'm kinda stuck without it! It's for an Evo 7 but I'm pretty sure the controllers work with just about any model of PFC. I had one in my 33 so hopefully i still remember how to use it Happy to make a carton of beer etc magically appear in your fridge, and leave some sort of deposit with you if required. I'm in Doncaster but happy to travel to where ever. cheers, Adam.
  10. FWIW, i got pulled from an AROCA day at PI last year. so it does happen and my car is nowhere near as loud as some of the "race car" Alfas that were there.
