  1. Do they actually engine dyno it? Can you get it registered NA and then add the turbo?
  2. Old thread but here is a great video explaining the benefits and showing the A/R changes.
  3. Because most people run along the edge of the compressor efficiency curve. This means they get max turbo airflow in the midrange and also in the top end. If you get similar airflow at 5000rpm as you do at 8000rpm then this means reduced torque as you are sharing the same air over more combustion events, reduced torque means reduced power. Most factory turbo cars don't smash the boost in the midrange or max the turbo out, hence they can hold flat torque to redline. If they didn't then you'd see the typical huge midrange torque and dropping off at redline.
  4. I wouldn't put it past someone actually doing this
  5. Did it have the factory seal of approval or was it a "built" motor? I've seen and heard so many rebuilt motors go pop due to the guy only building 1 a year and doing something wrong. Something to be said for stock bottom ends, the guy at the factory did a shit tonne of them.
  6. Looks like it would be laggy for a street car, with the appropriate gearing and clutch kicks ahoy should be interesting on the track though!
  7. A lot of race teams and performance work shops use it. It is only the hot temperature that is thicker, it is still an SAE 10 oil at the colder temperature, if you draw a scale it will only be when it gets hotter that it acts like a thicker oil.
  8. Interesting, so you find the volume of oil drops so much that your temperatures go up. This means that whilst you get the required pressure you end up having other issues. I guess it is always a balancing game.
  9. For track use if you are seeing temps that high consistently I would be going a 10w60 eg the castrol fully synth. 5w30 is way too thin for a track car especially if you are doing track laps in the summer months.
  10. The tyre thread is as useful as a toothbrush made entirely from ants..... You get people who have used one tyre ever giving it 8/10. How on earth can they rate if if they haven't used other tyres on the same car ins the same conditions as others? Useless thread.
  11. I've found a 245f and 265r to give neutral handling, you can get a 265 on the front but you end up with the rims out the guard and it looks pretty silly.
  12. Only on the BAs and Mk1 BFs, the rest all have upgraded valve springs from the factory that won't float until you get to 400rwkw Well then it is lucky you can fit 18x305 in the stock guard with only rolling it, I have 265s which hook up in first with over 300rwkw. Never turn traction control on unless it is wet and I don't have any issues.
  13. Falcon that people in the US are jealous that they don't get.
  14. Yeah I agree with most of this. Diff bushes flog out all the time due to a flawed design, much better in the BF in the BA, in the BA you almost don't bother replacing them as they just break 20,000 kms later. I've put super pro ones in that are marketed as lasting for 100,000 km. I've changed the thermostat to 82c so engine bay heat is a lot better. Front end bushes imo aren't any worse than my skyline, they seem to last about as long. I personally find the engine bay bigger and easier to work on in the falcon, plus nothing ever goes wrong engine wise so all I really do is change the oil. End of the day the skyline is going to be better at just about everything track related, the weight and size of the car means it can handle but you'll spend a lot more money to do so. One pro of a bigger car is you can fit 285s in the stock guards and get traction in first gear with 320rwkw. BF MkII onwards have forged internals and will make 400rwkw all day long on the stock motor and gearbox, 6 speed box is notchy and noisy (even from day 1) but they never blow up. BAs blow up gearboxes and motors all the time. FG has a smaller compressor housing so will only make 300rwkw stock as it is a GT35 with a tiny 53/76mm compressor (very strange turbo), BF has a 82mm wheel. Auto needs work done to make that power all day long, the auto is MUCH faster than the 6 speed and better in most ways except the fact it is an auto, the super heavy clutch in the 6 speed makes daily duties a bit like the skyline at times.
  15. The motor and gearbox is f**king massive, no chance of fitting it in without cutting firewall.
  16. Yes I agree the build quality can be lacking in parts. Thin panels and plastic where it should really be metal, I've found most new cars are similar. Also agree the commodore interior is shitloads better than the falcon, if I could get the falcon gearbox and engine in a VE commodore I would take it every single time.
  17. Lol that looks so f**king bad
  18. Might help me avoid hitting it though! I tested it out in the wet and it works a treat with the DSC, can stomp on the brakes whilst turning hard and not only will it not lock up, it will still steer fine as well, 4 wheel braking is pretty cool.
  19. I do like trolling. Forged internals, 4L and GT35 from the factory makes for about the best value motor you can get. It'll pass a roadworthy inspection every time, I also am far less likely to die when I put it into a tree due to the ABS, airbags and much higher safety rating.
  20. Here is the rwkw, 300rwkw by 4000 rpm is super nice on the street.
  21. So my r32 gts-t with rb25det got written off last year, got $10k from insurance somehow so I went to the dark side and bought a 2008 BF XR6T for $12.5k, anyway $5k later and it's making this power! This is K.P.Ms "flywheel figure" the real rwkw is about 320rwkw but this shows the curve. 380rwkw is doable on E85 and more boost. FMIC, 1000cc ID, clutch, fuel pump, 4" dump & cat, custom tune, stock twin 2.25 from cat back, 265x18 rims It is laggier response wise than the 25det with a 260kw highflow due to the GT35 being pretty big from the factory however full boost and torque at 3k rpm cannot be beat. Sounds awesome and it will make this power on the stock turbo and motor all day long with 200,000 kms on it. So yeah, if you are thinking about going to the dark side let me tell you it is absolutely worth it for bang for buck! Also having all the creature comforts of a car that is 17 years newer really is nice, electric seats, leather, ABS, airbags, massive interior, cops don't look at it twice either! Around the hills it handles the same as my GTS-T, obviously one the track it isn't going to be as good due to having almost 400kg on the 32.
