  2. What a great day! I beat my old time by 5 sec on the national circuit. Down from 1:34?? to a 1:29.50!! Top speed down the back straight was nudging an indicated 195km/hr and had fun keepin' it outta the kitty litter into turn 3!! I picked it up from the guys at Advanced Auto Imports in Albion, Brisbane who has recently shut their doors due to the introduction of SEVS and the FCUKED up changes to the 15-year import legislation. At the time I was 19 and I'm now about to turn 28 in June! We've been best of mates since then and this lil' monster introduced me to the world of imports and the fun to be had with modifying turbos. When we 1st met if you were to ask me what boost was I would have given you the same look I get on my face after one and a half bottles of Vodka.....very, very blank! Over the years this car has had a LOT of money spent on it! It started out as an auto with the glorious (NOT!!!!!) standard red rocker cover NICS engine in place. Since then it's had a heart transplant in the form of a R32 GTS-T RB20DET and matching 5 speed. With a high flowed turbo and 2.5" press bent exhaust, VR4 intercooler along with EMS-QI4 management. It's best on APC dyno was 180kw@TW using 16psi. It was a great combo except for the fact the turbo wouldn't hit any real boost 'till 4000rpm after that it went like a shower of shite. The lack of bottom end meant it wasn't much fun to drive around town and required a careful planning of any low speed corners etc. After a while this started to get to me and I looked at other options. As opposed to following the common step of fitting a RB25DET from the R33 Skyline or RB26DETT, I decided to look outside the square to fill the torque hole and found the VG30DET from a Nissan Cima was the way to go. This motors fitment was fitted by APC @ Underwood, Brisbane. Most of you will be familiar with the turbo itself but maybe not the motor. Simply, it's a single turbo version of what is used in the Z32 300ZX (1989 onwards but don't quote me on this). Single Turbo, Quad Cam, 32 Valve, 3 Litre with 190kw @ 6000rpm & 343NM @ 3200rpm(no intercooler). This engine in standard form in it's natural home, the Cima, tied behind the AUTO transmission @ 1600kg + was enough to give performance of 0 - 100km/hr of 7.4 sec with 14.7 sec quater mile times. With the mods I have along with the substantial weight advantage (1250kg approx), you do the maths!
