im so sorry you got shafted mate

don't be sorry, not your fault!

I should have listened to my other mates and go buy a BMW X3 the time, however the stats didn't look as appealing as the Tiguan, not to mention the 1.8% finance was very attractive, left money in my offset at 3.9% which meant I was ahead.

This is after telling me how great they are for ages such that I bought one...

    Fantastic...

Well drive quality, adaptive suspension, sound deadening, tech, economy for a 162kW car is way ahead of its Japanese counterparts.

    Just the DSG sucks.

Do you reckon the ATI is better than the Ross? No one seems to have an ATI for a 25 in NZ at the moment.

What was up with the PS pulley?

Goes from a cam belt, service, into a 4k job, typical lol.

I personally don't like Ross, and especially after they sold me a PS idler kit that was poorly designed and doesn't work with the RB25 out of the box.

Another person has the same issue too.

I emailed them numerous times, sent them photos, videos, etc. and they've ghosted me the pricks.

  3. We must be related.

I use a NZ Cam trigger kit with an ATI balancer. I needed to get a custom PS pulley to suit the RB25 PS pump from Hi Octane Racing.

Motor hasn't exploded yet, makes 437kW, has seen half a dozen track days at SMSP, 2x silly wannabe Power cruise events and runs AC.

It’s a fabbed 3in downpipe to a 3in ISR (cheap) catback. It’s all straight pipe and 1 can at the rear.

I have found several examples of the same turbo making more power on less boost with 98 RON or similar (non ethanol) fuels. But, maybe I am wrong or getting bad info. 19 psi seems like a lot for that power.

Pull off your front timing cover and see if the intake & exhaust cam is in the right spot vs. the crank pulley

    Easy check

  6. If you want a equivalent turbo to make about the same power and response as your current one and to dose well you'll need to go something old school with a 6+6 blade (as you've mentioned).

I'm thinking a TD06-25G, no idea how good these turbos are but in Precision speak it's like a 6058 (which doesn't exist, they do a 5858). A few random videos I found:

As you have a 2.8L already, would a Precision 6266 OR a Turbosmart 6262 tickle your fancies? I would lean towards the Precision 6266 as it's offered in T4 divided so you can retain twin scroll for that low down & smooth power delivery.

  7. Opportunity to convert to R35/370Z coils, those coils are more trouble than anything else.

OEM (including R35/370Z) or Splitfire are the only sensible options.

In the past when I was a broke lad in my 20s, I bought brand new colourful (won't mention the colour, but it's similar to my skin) looking coil packs and 2x actually came DOA! Ended up buying used Splitfires and instantly fixed my misfire issue.

Otherwise, what is this FP2 software and how does it become upgraded? is it some paywall or like a physical thing?

it's a firmware upgrade to the Nistune board, I have the firmware writer you can borrow if you want (since you're in Sydney).

    Downloads are here:

    https://www.nistune.com/support/software-downloads

Optionally you can just send back the board to Matt at Nistune and he can do it for you:

  9. Shitbox update so VW Liverpool has gotten back to me on Thursday saying the gearbox control unit is on its way, should arrive at their service centre by early next week. They said VW Australia is only covering the parts and loan car and not the labour. I asked them to send me the quote so I can lodge a formal complaint with the crooks in head office.

Anyhow I wrote somewhat a firm complaint, added piles of screen shots where others have had their repairs done and had the entire cost covered (this is done case by case, some Tiguan owners also had to pay for the labour some didn't)I even quoted the below from their website too.

    Screenshot_20240323-101237.thumb.png.850c3e8291bf32641b7993e70cc0c614.png

The irony is, some had their labour costs waived, even though their Tiguans didn't even have a full dealer service record, where mine does.

If they don't budge with their decision on the labour cost, I'll take it up with NSW Fair Trading, noting the battle isn't with the dealer it's with VW Australia.

This will be my first and last VW I suspect.

Will move onto another shit box brand next and then have @Duncan say "I told you so, should have bought a Nissan".
