  1. yeah have seen those but wondered why so many holes as well as the bit where they say "may require modification " to fit to certain applications, id like to know what they have fitted like from someone not sellin em hahahah. so ill perhaps use the K+N Apollo enclosed pod i have laying about in the mezzanine of the shed if it will physically fit in the area, or just make my own bastadised version from cardboard to get a pattern then buy some ally sheet and use the nutsert gun
  2. i actually dont think they ended up doin a comp check, cos it started to do what it was told, so on my upcoming rostered days off ill do one myself just with a cheapy test kit ive got laying around somewhere from motorbike days. ive seen some enclosures made with poly card and aluminium etc, just wondered if anyone had a pattern kicking around? so ill pose the question to the forum in general if i cant find one without having to trawl through millions of pages when the search function annoys me fo rnot giving the answers i seek as per std
  3. finally have an update after what seems like for-bloody-ever!!!! thankfully the car is now taking timing and we think it was a combination of a dodgy AFM (bosch rip-off) and the CAS on the front of the motor not reading correctly and confusing each other . the Bosch AFM was purchased from a reputable parts company for just under $300, so they are going to take it back and assess it to see whether it is a dodgy unit or just a plain out and out rip-off unit that snuck through from their supply chain. several other OEM Jecs AFM units were tried, but as they are no longer available through nissan the units were all second hand, and took a few goes to get one that was reading correctly, had one that was leaning out real bad, another that just flat out threw codes, and finally on the 3rd go we stole the one of the tuners own R32 and used it for now to get the car at least half way tuned. picked up the car today so that i can drive it while the tuners missus goes in to have their kidlet, then once hes back on deck we can get the tune finished off for both 98 and the sugar juice E85, for the most part the E85 tuning is done with a few different dilution ratios, but so far the thing is a frickin rocket compared to before, it is holding 20+ psi no problem and pulling like a train, so cant wait to see how it goes once the tune is all tickled up. now all i am pondering is whether to keep the factory airbox with the K+N panel filter, or go to a boxed pod, as it has the pod on at the moment and am liking the flutter hahahaha, can anybody point me in the right direction for a pod box that isnt too much of a turd to fit?
  4. I'd love an audi rs6 but I'm not bulk rich, so the stagea is as close as I'll get ha ha ha, and yeah fully agree that if I added it all up between car and bikes over the years it'd be a comfortable house 😔
  5. Nah not at all, engine is running again as of last night, new flex fuel pump and lines, adjustable reg, hardwire kit etc etc were all fitted yesterday, so now the testing will commence. And I thought I was half impatient, jeebus Hahahah KiwiRS4T you're keener than me!, but I spose I'm half dreading the outcome since it could possibly be a wallet drainer.... 😥
  6. I've been at work all weekend so I dunno, will be calling the workshop tomorrow to see if it's been done, dropped off the ecu on Friday morning and they were going to be spannering on it that arvo, so am hoping it's been tested etc
  7. Fair enough, ecu is on way back from Nistune so should be in the hand either tomorrow or Friday
  8. Yeah we are doin a comp test as soon as ecu is back in car, as well as changing the cas contraption on front of engine, and hopefully either of those will be a steer in the direction of the issue

Old intercooler was return flow from just jap, new cooler flows heaps better intake tract is about 1.2mtrs shorter and runs a lot cooler to the touch even after about an hour of driving, still cold to touch, all new piping so clean as a whistle and showed no improvement with timing issues after changed to new cooler

New balancer is being fitted already as old one was getting tired and perished, will then try timing light etc, cam gears are std OEM stuff, and new belt was fitted couple weeks ago whilst it was opened up to check it hadn't skipped a tooth or 9. Currently waiting for the ecu to return from Nistune after having E85 harness fitted and a general checkover found nothing out of the ordinary

I'll see if the vct bits have been sussed out, new timing belt and adjusters fitted in last couple of weeks to ensure it hadn't been skipped a tooth on pulleys etc, did ask if the bull nose bit on front of cam was free and clean and all reports were it looked fine by them. When you say slots in back, do you mean on the bull nose bit or the cam itself?
  14. Brand new bosch 725cc from efi solutions and no sign of running out of room for flow, and have just got new pump and adjustable reg fitted ready for E85

Have spoken to engine builder, and they can only vaguely remember what piston they used in engine, said they reckon it was a modified wiseco piston, so my thought is that next steps are comp test to see if excessive, and the throw E85 at it and see what it does from there. Then if that fails yank it out, peel it open and put a proper f**king set of neo piston in it just to be certain

I have the build sheet for engine, and sadly all It says is forged rb25det piston kit, but no part number to identify if it's neo or otherwise, so will do a compression test and check figures I spose, apparently std comp is about 170-175psi range, I'll also attempt to call the engine builder and see if they can remember what they were, though it was around 3 years ago so don't hold much hope
  17. What would be the differences if any between rb25det pistons and rb25det Neo pistons? Anybody aware of what issues they could cause with clearances etc

Car doesn't seem to be excessive on fuel consumption so hesitant to think it's dumping fuel in, though have just installed a new adjustable reg, and 300lph pump compatible with E85, so we can test that theory once car is done with installation of flex fuel stuff. Have had 2 jdm enthusiast /specialized mechanics looking at it and it's got them scratching their heads as to why its like it is, they've both worked on it separately as well as together and short of removing and peeling engine open we've started to make incremental changes to parts, then test and if no change try something else, change, test and so on
  19. It's an engine that's been running fine and smooth, was rebuilt supposedly with forged pistons etc about 10-12000kilometres before I got car, and has kinda always felt doughy in the mid range, even with high flow hypergear it doesn't really come on boost until about 3500rpm
  20. I'm at a quandry, and am seeking knowledge from the brains trust. My car won't take timing while trying to tune, all it does is ping its tits off, initial thought was intake or exhaust restrictions but they've since been disproven, as it's got a 3" system front to rear, brand new 100cell cat, and magnaflow 3" inlet 2x2.25 outlet see through muffler, a k+N panel filter etc. Nistune ecu, injectors as well are within range and not running out (725cc), plenty of spark with Audi R8 coils and fuel pump delivering ample supply/pressure, intercooler has been changed to a higher flowing water to air unit with much shorter piping, engine has good compression and seems to be feeling healthy and wanting to be fed more, yet something is holding it back and it won't take timing, so am left scratching my head as to what the hell is putting the blockers on..... Any ideas at this point would be gratefully received

Cheers for that, not looking at going beyond 300kw absolute maximum, in fact I'd be stoked to get to 250kw, before I put water to air intercooler on the car was struggling to maintain 175kw with a return flow front mount. Now with the water to air the car feels a lot stronger so to speak and not fighting itself to make or maintain power if that makes sense? Drive train wise here's short list of what it's got so far, forged pistons, very light valve work, hypergear ball bearing highflow, 725cc injectors, Nistuned,audi R8 coilpack conversion, 10mm plenum spacer, 140amp alternator, shift kitted auto, 3" front to back exhaust, high flow cat and magnaflow shoosher. Anything else other than fuel delivery that I need to think of changing or upgrading now?
