  1. bugger! i've been putting off taking it to a workshop till after i get back from the worldcup.... not the kind of thing u wanna hear before going away... oh well... its a garaged 32 now i guess. cheers for your input crave.
  2. hey all!! could someone please enlighten me on how an air/fuel gauge works? ie: where does it take its readings from? why does it sit on 14 under acceleration and at idle but when backing off moves upto 18 and hangs there for several seconds or until i accelerate again and it moves back to 14..... cheers guys..
  3. i installed a catch can tonite and gave it a good old thrashing and sure enough there is oil in the clear hose so im hoping this is the end and its not a turbo problem... fingers crossed. on a side note my air/fuel guage is now jumping around a bit since fitting the can. it came with the car so i dont know much about reading an air/fuel guage or where it takes its readings from other then it sits on 14 on idle and under acceleration, then when i back off it moves up to about 18 and hangs there for several seconds or until i accelerate again and it moves back to 14..... anyways now it still behaves like before exept when the car comes on boost it drops back to 13 and sometimes bounces off 11 then back upto 14..... ???? my installation was very simple (the can is looped into the hose between the breather and just before the turbo) and i have triple checked everything... no vac leaks or hoses removed... car feels just as good as before maybe even a little better and definately no pinging. any ideas?

  5. after some heavy driving tonite i noticed oil on the outside of my bonnet. after closer investigation i found it it had blown out from my forward facing bov in between the grille and headlight infront of my car and back onto my bonnet and headlight....wtf so im just trying to get me some more knowledge on this issue... I currently believe this is caused by pressure in the head blowing oil out thru the breather into the intake and back thru the turbo n cooler etc etc. so when the charged air is released thru the bov i get oil blowing out. so im just wondering is this normal? or a bad sign? does this cause performance loss due to all the oil blowing into the cylinders? can this cause poor fuel economy? could this cause smoke out of the zaust at full throttle when im running high boost because of the excessive oil passing back thru the motor and burning up? is an oil catch can my fuel economy solution? any help or opinions appreciated thanks guys.. edit: sorry i should have put this in the forced induction area... mods ??

  7. so how do u test the o2 sensor with a meter? am i looking for some impedence or an open circuit ?? i too am lucky to get 300k's per tank and it runs rich as a mofo dumping smoke at full throttle on high boost

  9. yep all belts were changed 8000km ago including timing belt. the timing belt is a gates belt. currently at 104 000km the sound is like a goat trying to hum while being choked, not really a metalic scrapey sound..... not loud but annoying and like above only when im stopped at the lights/drive thru and the idle drops. a pulley bearing maybe?? is there some kind of spray lube i could use? sorta hard to tell exactly which belt cos i cant isolate the sound with the fan right in my face.
  10. i got a noisy drive belt that only seems to whine at idle when it drops between 770-790rpm. how the hell do i fix it???? all the belts are only 8000km old... i've been told to rub dry soap on it to let it slip a little which helps for about 20min then the whine comes back. suggestions please?
  11. ok, so i still dont think i need another gate because theres is no gate creep or boost problems that i can notice so there is no problem in my mind but thanks heaps for the tips and info guys. soo...just for my own curiosity and maybe some future tinkering with... are upgraded internal gates a brand name aftermarket item? or oem/second hand items available off other turbos on the market?
  12. ive seen regular grommets used and also some funky machined looking metal fittings held on with a nut on the under side i think... wouldnt mind finding out where to get these. anyone? until then black gaffer tape on a black car will do me fine.

  15. during a phone conversation today with a local tuning shop i was told i should be using a wastegate to run 1.2bar on my rb20 powered 32. i have had the car for 3 months now and it has been happy to run 1.2bar thru its gt2510 probably half the time i drive it... is it true i should use gate to run this boost? or is there a sales pitch going on?? im pretty sure 1.2bar is no sweat for this turbo but i though i'd get another opinion from u guys...
  16. I removed the bolts then used a thin strong bladed knife and forced it between the spoiler and boot, making sure it was closer to the spoiler then the boot and basically cut through it. removing the sticky adhesive off the boot was a pain in the arse tho.
  17. thanks but i was really after an answer as to what type of turbo it is. the plate says garrett but the GT2510-63T line i think refers to the HKS GT2510 with a 63 trim ? am i reading too deeply into the numbers? i cant find a reference to a garrett GT25/10 or a garrett with a 63 trim anywhere on the net... the comp housing looks identical to the garrett GT28xxx models tho its happy to sit on 1.2bar so im guessings its not stock..
  18. garrett serial number plate reads: 6D 60201 GT2510-63T 446179-20 the internet tells me a gt2510 is a hks model?? what i want to know is: is this the standard on a R32GTST? or an aftermarket ballbearing replacement? im confused..

  20. WERD! was all a false alarm. just freak out a bit as i had never heard that sound and run the tank that low, sure enough after putting $5 worth of fuel in the buzz was gone and after driving around a bit the sound came back.. at least now i know its got an after market fuel pump
  21. my fuel pump just started making a buzzing noise whenever i push the throttle in. is this common on pumps before they go? or is it just noise. should i still drive it for the next few days before i can get it replaced? it still goes ok

    hot rims are gay. i cancelled my order with them cos i could never get a straight answer out of them and they kept spinning shit.. way to do buisness guys! you'd have better luck ordering direct from tempe and fitting em yourself.
  23. can i ask what turbo ? and how much boost to achieve 290? im assuming stock int.
