When I was in Japan I saw R32 GTR's selling for $45,000 AUD...
Even j-spec have a 32 GTR up for $32,100 at the moment:

A really clean R32 GTR is a highly valued item not just here but in Japan also. What many people don't seem to realise is that most of the ones that end up on our shores are the shit that nobody in Japan is interested in and during that 15yr rule it was worse! This is not the case for all of them I know, but still.
As has been said over and over in this and many other threads; If it truley is a clean example it will cost money. My mate and I looked at loads of 32 GTR's here and gave up. I also know ppl who have bought $17k GTRs and thought they got the deal of a lifetime and then weeks later the list of problems had the car in the workshop for ages while they tried to scrape together thousands of dollars to cover all the repairs.
But it sounds like you know how to look over a car. Goodluck with the next one!
Your only real option is justcars. Apparently RACV insure imports now too i think but not sure about modifications. Most insurers however, just wont cover you though...
So what are you going to do? I would avoid cheap GTR's (like that one for $18k you mentioned) as other ppl have suggested.
I looked at some in that price range a year ago and they were all rubbish. Other cars if they aren't in the best condition it might not not be that much of an issue... with GTR's they are very expensive to fix when they break and many are ticking time bombs.
The genuine ones go on well as they are flexible being made out of plastic. The fakes are generally fibreglass... a driveway/speedhump can be enough to crack them cause they have very little play etc.
I'd be pretty sure the s15 will be better on petrol while still performing very well. With just an exhaust and some boost combined with the fact that it is a fair bit lighter than the r34 it can have quite a fair bit of shove but still be good on petrol.
I know a mate that had the same 2 cars in mind and at the time I tried to push him towards the r34. After he got his s15 and I drove it i think he made the right choice. Its fun to drive and can look very nice but the main thing that turns me off them is the sr20's sound. They can make great power and are very impressive but just sound like a fart... I thought about these cars also but went with a 32 GTR in the same price range instead.. could not be happier!
Yeah it is a doll, I have seen them before at florist i think it was... As for why it is up against the wheel I have no idea... just getting in the way of a legendary car if you ask me
Serious? I cant count the amount of 32 gts-t's I have seen that have a GTR fr bar. Its a common mod to make the front end look more aggressive. I did it with my gts-t when I had it also.
Here are my choices:
Daily: R35 GTR $150,000 (it is an auto with comfort settings so I would happily take it to and from work every day)
4 Adults in comfort: BMW 325i sedan auto $76,400
Track car: Audi R8 manual $259,900
Total spend: $486,300
I was reading the September issue of Motor today and saw a small side article with a challange as follows:
You have just won the $500k lotto and you have a three-car garage to fill. Choose your weapons...
THE RULES
1. You can spend a maximum of $500,000 on the dream garage, you can spend less but not more.
2. Your maximum three cars must be current production models and road registerable in Australia.
3. Each car must fulfill one of the following criteria:
- Can be used as a daily driver
- Can carry four adults and luggage
- Can be used as a weekend track car
So post up your choices...
Haha, GOLD!
The F6 may be able to produce a large amount of power but with exhaust etc and the mods mentioned you might be looking at 350rwkw...
A GTR will put less power to far greater use. A car like the ford with huge power through the rear wheels would not be much fun on the road as it would be breaking traction any time you nudge the accelerator. But then again some people would see that as awesome...
I think a near stock R34 GTR would be a great car and I can't see why you could not have it as a daily. GTR's are no good as a daily once you start doing full suspension, twin plate clutches etc.. without all that I think it would be an awesome daily. I would much rather hop into one of them every day after work than a ford. But it depends on your circumstances... New F6 is still a pretty good option, and if you want a comfortable 4 door that can look tuff and go hard it is pretty good option i think!
Yeah, they are pretty rare... there were just over 400 built in total so finding one would be difficult.
Also, from what I heard they don't have a/c.... which is not ideal as a road car
