  1. heres a pic of the new gear.......the arrow point to the teeth that snowie likes to destroy.....these are the dogs....the shift drum locates on these and locks the gear to the shaft when selected(the synchros job is to "synchronise"these 2 componants by acting as a brakepad for the gear(it rides in between these two parts)....these little teeth transfer all the power! Its quite unbeleivable
  2. yes but the same mod is done to 4th aswell.......the part your saying is part of the gear is the dogs that the synchro ring mates the shift drum too....these dogs are prone to shearing off if the synchro ring is eitheir rooted, the incorrect oil is used or continued abuse of the transmission
  3. dude...what sort of $$$ are you looking at?
  4. and you get the double synchro hubs and sh1t from this guy 0453510421.....its a japan number so you will need someone that speaks japanese to order the parts.......you could mod it to use a getrag 6 speed double cone assembly....but thats uncharted waters for me....but if i have to do another one....id be sizing it up that way as i now have plenty of getrag V160/161 parts here now
  5. here people.....this fixes it....1st pic is what the untouched gear looks like......2nd pic in the lathe and machine the single cone off......3rd pic mill 4 slots in it for the double cone synchro boss hub to latch onto the gear....
  6. the way to Fix the infamous earlier gearbox problem is to convert it into a double cone synchro...this requires a bit of machining but fixes the problem for good....i will have a hunt around and see if i can find my pics on machining them
  7. Nissan DO NOT sell parts for this gearbox........
  8. time to change the synchro's in the gearbox.......if you keep going you will also need to replace the gear as well......thats if its not rooted already.....people....put the genuine oil in them and save your selves heart ache.....
  9. I agree....you havent and never will have a crash?
  10. i dont have access....i dont think i have been set up yet tho
  11. The R34 gtr uses a V160/161 getrag transmission.....as does the JZA80 supra(and i assume that this tranny is used by a number of other vehicles) ....therfore the internals are IDENTICAL....there are two types of synchro's some have 6 tooth and some have 7 tooth....you dont know what you got until you pull it apart.....the gears are about 500 each and the synchro ring vary from 70-120 each....the shift drums are 280 each
  12. id be prepared to have a look at the job...

  14. most definatly genuine gearbox oil.....
  15. i saw 200klms...i think....adz might have been paying more attention than i was of the speed .....That crazy german in the supra saw 210 or something like that....hey volvo dude....you had an awful close mishap through the s there that bust's up the main straight!
  16. i personally dont beleive they cause synchro ring failure....the fact is the gears are closer together not only forward and backwards but left to right more so.......so infact these make selecting gear a little more difficult.....especially when theres six gears involved........so mis shifts are more likely to happen.....i have rebuilt a number of skyline gearbox's from 32's through to the R34 6 speed getrag's and i would be confident in saying that 90 percent have had troubles due to driver error more than anything....another important factor is using the correct oil in them
  17. theres nothing wrong with them as far as i am concerned........As far as half going into gear...well it doesnt work that way.....the shifter comes with a spacer that lifts up the pivot piont of the socket arrangement so the distance the lever on the bottom end of the socket is the just a tad longer...the noise actually comes from the pivot point being that tad longer,it actually pushs too far into gear and the noise is the gear mesh travelling through the shift fork/drum and shift shafts....you can simulate the sound on a vehicle without a short shift kit by pushing on the lever that little bit extra toward the gear that you are in....
  18. howdy ho...merry xmas
  19. cool....if you need a hand yell out!I love this type of work
  20. bulkhead=firewall....it looks way to soft for that tho...but when you said 10mm back thats what made me ask
  21. give neil a call at binks nissan/ford......If you want to fix it properly id be putting it on a bench
  22. has the rail gone back into the bulkhead at all or is it just the tips of the rail?Would be nice to get it up on a bench just to check the underbody measurements eitheir way...or are you just gunna pull it on a flat rack?
  23. looks like an easy fixer.....but your changing the lower rad support right? They are quite cheap to buy new....it might end up a better job if you changed it......
  24. those japanese characters say "ten ken"meaning check....its some sort of service check thing that has been added by a previous owner
  25. if i wasnt sure it would have read "i think there the same as R33 GTR":D......
