  1. Hidden speed cameras..... They love 'em here in Vic too.... Recent sightings: - Divvy sitting in between factories just waiting to prey on said motorist (must admit, with the area's history I guarantee they picked someone up in five minutes (Did anyone say Fiveways Blvd, Keysy??) - Marked car sitting at top of embankment next to 100 zone freeway, about 30 metres above the roadway (Westall Rd Ext, Dingley/Keysy; who the hell looks for speed cameras 30 metres above the road you're on?!?) - Copper not in uniform, wearing reflective vest and using new (tiny) camera on tripod - looks exactly like a surveyor at the side of the road. Marked car parked 500-600 metres away. They operate these cameras standing about two metres away as well (Cnr. Warrigul & South Rds)
  2. Don't stress, you wont be the only one!!! Five points.... god I wish I were that lucky!!!
  3. Wouldn't mind a PM myself... I know of one or two ways that I've disabled, just wanna make sure they're the same...
  4. Ah, we all have our cranky days! But Fhrx, you do always raise good (and educated) points. One thing, I'm facing noise trouble too (and yes, it's a cheap amp... but it's an old valve amp so I love it!) - what is the most common noise problem in an R33? In my VL and Patrol I solved any problems I found, now I can't seem to stop the engine noise. It seems to stay at the one volume, changing frequency with rpms. I generally just turn up the dial a few more notches, but that's really not a solution.
  5. I hate bloody pedestrians! Used to love driving my old Patrol with bullbar and air horns Actually, thinking of putting air horns on my R33 for the same reason! I always thought pedestrians had right-of-way in any situation, but a quick check of the VicRoads site states: 236. Pedestrians not to cause a traffic hazard or obstruction (1) A pedestrian must not cause a traffic hazard by moving into the path of a driver. Penalty: 1 penalty unit. (2) A pedestrian must not unreasonably obstruct the path of any driver or another pedestrian. Penalty: 1 penalty unit. (3) For subrule (2), a pedestrian does not unreasonably obstruct the path of another pedestrian only by travelling more slowly than other pedestrians.
  6. Don't know what area of Melb. you're in, but one place I've heard of that's pretty good (not personal experience): The 308 Shop 29 Foster St, Dandenong - 9706-8308.
  7. Wouldn't recommend running your RCAs down the drivers side, that's where the factory loom is for all the rear stuff (lights, HICAS, etc.). I installed mine the other day, was getting late so I ran them down the drivers side with everything else - bad mistake.
  8. 3" cat back & K&N Panel (stock box), else stock: City (morning & arvo commute) - 380-410kms from 55litres Country - just got 560kms from 3/4 tank! (est. 620kms from 55litres) Fun - 180kms from 55 litres (80-90% WOT) Always using BP Ultimate or Mobil 8000, wont touch Optismell.
  9. G'day Chop, If you're in dire need of those missing accessories that should have come with your central locking motor, I've got a fair few spares here. Got the mounting bracket, actuating rod, little cast blocky thingy that attaches the actuating rod to the existing linkages and mounting screws. Most aftermarket locking kits are pretty standard so the rod and such should suit. Yours N/C if you need 'em, you're in my area (SE Melb) so give us a yell/PM if you want. Cooks44.
  10. Thought I'd add in to this one... 1) MP3 decoding IS done by the CD stacker, it decodes and sends plain audio signals to your head unit. 2) Clarion do make a MP3 stacker, unfortunately it's in their DVD stacker... Whether an Addzest (Japanese Clarion) stereo will connect to a standard Clarion stacker is another matter, but both the Addzest and Clarion Australia stacker share the same part no. (VCZ625). Will also depend on what series your stereo is, but most manufacturers design things so they are backwards-compatible. You may want to call Clarion to confirm. Hope this helps!
  11. G'day, I might be able to point you in the right direction, unfortunately I'm off work till after New Years so I can't speak to the right people till then. Might be able to get an email through to someone though. We're based in Melb., but we have repairers in most states to speed things up a bit for our products. You should be able to get it repaired, I'm not a tech but I'm pretty sure the MOSFETs are just F$%#@! (ah, fried.) Oh, what amp make/model is it? Would help to work it out. Will give you a yell when I find out from work. Merry Christmas! :alcoholic
  12. You planning on going original colour, or changing it to something funky?? I've been getting sick of looking at the poor condition of mine and have been wanting to do something about it... Could possible get them both done at once. I've also got some friends in the spraypainting/panel beating industry so can get specialist equipment (read: spray gun) and specialist advice for that matter! Send us a PM or reply here.....
  13. No one's had any trouble catching the steering rack whilst using the crossmember at the front?? I was gonna use the crossmember like I usually do, but it looked like some pressure was going to be put on the rack so I got turned off using it...
  14. Everyone welcome?? Might come down and meet a few faces (pending work), car's still stock as a rock so not much point dynoing it yet, but a BBQ's always good!
  15. Just thought I'd let you know, under body kits are no longer a instant defect. As long as they don't flash, and aren't red, doesn't matter. INSIDE INFO: Many of the manufacturers are getting together with Vic Police & VicRoads representatives early next year (2004) so we can work out once and for all what is legal and what isn't, and make sure that information is standardised through all Victorian Police stations and VicRoads.
  16. Well, I love my R33 - have driven a R34 and still love going back to my 33. Must admit, I'm 6'4" and got it mostly cos' I can fit! Would've loved a R32 but too narrow and short for me! And in regards to arms on window sills, as long as you elbow isn't above sholder height I think it's ok! (I know what you all mean about it looking and feeling awkward...) Being my height helps that a little bit!!! I guess cos' I first drove a 33 and never a 32 I've gotten used to the 33's handling characteristics from the start and personally think it handles unbelievably! Then again, I was previously going sideways in a Z31 and before that a Nissan Patrol (don't ask, great fun though!)
  17. I think Power Acoustik (Australia) is about to be discontinued, there is still some stock left in the wholesalers, but no more new models coming through. Be good when Power Acoustik USA are allowed to sell here again!
  18. Wouldn't say they'd call neons a dazzling light.... Basically they mean any light that "blinds" you (high beams, spot lights, etc.) is a dazzling light. Neons are fine. (In Vic. anyway.) I have questioned it myself I must admit, IMHO I think that the high-brightness LEDs on windscreen washers are dazzling, I also think the rear red fog lights on Excels are dazzling and they should all be recalled and defected! But they're not... We have been trying to get info on legislation for the various states, it hasn't been easy. I spent an hour trying to find the document I quoted from on the web, to no avail. Ended up typing it all. From the layout of the document it came from the vicpolice.vic.gov.au site. We have been looking for a statement like this for a while, and finally received this last month. Haven't seen anything from any other states though.....
  19. Just thought I'd pop this up regarding the legality of non-essential lights in Victoria as it has been clarified to my workplace by the Police. Following is an excerpt of a Road Safety statement as it applies to neon lights and such. Still trying to find an online link to the document but have had no luck as yet... (will keep looking!)
  20. One thing to note, there are two Power Acoustiks.... Power Acoustik sold in Australia is cheap stuff. Reasonable quality, but yes - you get what you pay for. Power Acoustik USA however, are up there with the top brands. They were a little late in getting an Australasian patant however, and have since lost the right to market Power Acoustik in Australia. Only Power Acoustik USA stuff you'll see has been privately imported.
  21. BP Ultimate or Mobil 8000.... wont touch Optimax anymore.
  22. Hippy, give us a yell if you can't find it - I'll take a pic for you.
  23. I've never understood this economy thing... My R33 is dead stock, 1993 so it can't be the "1.5" version, backfires on every gear change (practically) so its gotta be running rich, but I still get 440kms CITY driving, 580-600kms country driving (180kms flogging it!) That's filling up just over 50 litres (BP Ultimate). What are people doing to get these 250-300km/tank figures?? Or is it more a case of "boost addiction"??
  24. If you're looking for extra stockies to rack up the numbers, definately count me in! Exterior on mine is still dead stock though, so if exotics are preferred I guess I'd be on the sidelines.
  25. You shouldn't need to cut your boot wire..... In the boot area next to the latch, the is a little hole with a lever inside. Push one way and the internal boot opener is disabled so you must use the key to open the boot. Push the other way and it is enabled again. The only thing I would definately do is cut the wire leading to the unlock button on the driver's armrest - coat hanger in, knock switch, door open. Otherwise keep everything as hidden as possible - stock speaker grilles, hidden installations. I think the out of sight, out of mind principle works best!
