  5. hey all, for the second time in a few days my car has broken down, same problem i think. the first time i was in 2nd gear at around 5-6k rpm when all of a sudden the car went poooff, lost power, engine stalled. when i tried starting it up again it wouldnt idle and continually stalled. took it to the mechanic who said it was the clamp for the intercooler which had failed. this fixed the problem for a few hours until the exact same thing happened again. this time 2nd gear around 4k rpm. while it may be easy to say its the clamp again i cant help but think there is something else going wrong to cause this to happen. has this happened to anyone else and is this a regular occurrence? any input would be much appreciated, my long weekend is now toast! cars mods are: gcg high flow exhaust hks ebc and apexi pfc r34 smic pod and bov.
  6. 97 r33 gts't apexi power fc & hks evc gcg high flow turbo 3" turbo back exhaust r34 smic pod & bov boost set @ 12psi =222.5rwkw tuned at envy imports at brookvale. great customer service and awesome tune. thanks guys.
  7. i'm getting my power fc tuned at envy imports tomorrow, looking forward to the results.
  8. i just installed a 3" dump pipe and cat to go with the rest of my 3" exhaust using the standard ecu. car feels a tonne smoother throughout the whole rev range and air filter is heaps noisier below 3000rpm because of the increased flow and the turbo being able to spool up sooner. you should definitely not be feeling sluggish. not sure about diagnostic though.
  9. hey, im on the market for a cat back for my s2 r33 gts-t. no smaller than 3" and preferably a brand name but i'll have a look at anything. any help would be much appreciated. thanks Angus
  10. thanks guys its making a lot more sense now. just filled up so hopefully a few changes to my driving style will get some more k's. just got 350km from the last tank with about 2l left to go.
  11. hey guys bit of a noob question but hopefully you can help me out. if the throttle is open because you've put your foot down but the rev's are still low and you're off boost do you still consume alot of fuel. for example you're in 5th gear doing 60km/h at 1500rpm trying to save fuel, if you give it some gas to to maintain speed (so the throttle opens right up) and keep up with traffic will you consume more fuel than being in 4th gear at 2000rpm having more response and less throttle. sorry if a few things are out of place and not explained 100% but hopefully you get what i'm trying to say and can help me out. cheers
  12. since you have all the parts plus an aftermarket manifold for a single turbo it would make sense to go that route, however, i didn't see a gearbox in your list of goodies... if u can afford jun engine accessories, even if it was a special deal, u can afford to spend the money on an HKS turbo(s). also assuming this car will be taken to the track; professional drivers run out of balls whilst driving the mines r34 (2530's) before the car runs out of power and although your not building a race car, anything that revs out to 10,000 rpm could hardly be called a street car. best of luck with the build whatever route you take.
  13. in conclusion, they aren't that bad for your turbo as evidenced by the many workshops that do it to their cars, however, no skyline enthusiast with half a brain would do this to their car for fear of being mistaken for one of the stereotypical losers that actually do do this to their cars to make them sound 'fully sick' as that is purely not what driving a skyline is about. my 2c
  14. what does your skyline look like and number plates if possible, im in the area and want to know what to look out for. P.S there is a tonne of speed and red light cameras all over the place so keep an eye put for them
  15. hey guys great post. one of our family cars is about to pack it in and after years of constant ear bashing my parents are considering buying a skyline. after reading this thrad it looks as though it would cost less to run a week than our commodore. ive spotted an r33 series 2 1996 for sale for just under 23k, 125km, exhaust, sun roof and owned by a skylines australia enthusiastes (so i have some peace of mind) is this figure ok. runs really smoothly. there is also another 96 r33 series 2 selling for 18k, similar specs, sat nav, no sunroof. what are your thoughts? thanx for any consideration, didnt mean to hijak the thread but since where on the topic of costs..
  16. still for sale? interested in a swap for a 97 holden acclaim sedan. if so send pics to [email protected]
  17. great post guys, sorry if this is off topic but SK it sounds the 264 cams you are running are evidence to what you always say on these forums about boost being a measure of resistance to air flow as many people on these forums are running the same boost to your 2530s and making power in the low 300's with smaller cames and more restrictive heads. Your setup sounds very similar to that of the mines car so it is no surprise you are making huge power and are going to emulate it in your next r32GTR.
  18. I'm only 17 so its still okay for me to beat up 15 year olds. :kick: i drive an absolute heap but would use the excuse of a keyer to beat up any little deadbeat, especially one who scratches skylines. :hellpisd:
  19. do the rods and dont be p!ssed off about the buy, after the rebuild the engine will be bullet proof and the car will be proper market value for a 93 V SPEC!!! atleast this way you will know the capabilities of the engine, so consider the rods and the rebuild as cheap insurance for the engine/car and peace of mind. dreamer
  20. depends on the colur of the car, Volks look extremely sexy on most skylines.
  21. im am a 'p' plater and consider myself to be a skyline enthusiast. As the name implies i am a long way from owning one and i will have to work long and hard if im ever going to own one. because of this i feel that i will appreciate and respect my skyline alot more when i get it. As a 'p' plater i can confirm that we like to think that we know everything and its not until it happens to us that we actally learn our lesson. unfortunately many 'p' platers have found this out with their life. Much of my desire to get wheelspin in certain situations is due to me wanting to learn more about my car and what it is capable of, i learnt the hard way that wet public roads are not the place to practice skills and if i want to test myself or my station wagon ill have to go to a track to do it (a station wagon at a track, not happening). Ultimately i feel that owning a high powered car should be the same as owning a 4WD. if u want to own one you should justify the reason for owning it. in the case of a sports car it may be spending time at a track to justify you owning it. afterall theres no point in modifying you skyline to do 50 or 110 on a freeway. You can't tell me all the mothers in Mosman really take there oversized heaps of sh#t offroad. and so they should not be driving them on the road in the city. Regards dreamer
  22. Firstly condlences to all involved, especially the dad. secondly i think driver education and advanced driving courses should be compulsory for all drivers (young and old), and found it interesting to see the governments response to this accident which was driver curfews for 'p' platers. As was said earlier; maybe they should spend some of the revenue made from speeding fines on driver education...after all prevention is the best cure, although that would be the smart rsponse. Sorry about the sarcasm i just feel the governments response to this issue is straight from the book, And i will be doing an advanced driving/defensive driving course when money permits. regards dreamer
  23. Bbenny, i've seen your car around the northern beaches a fair bit. Your current setup seems to be around the top desired power level for the rb20 before you get too serious, (rebuilt engines, ridiculous turbos). from your experience what is yours/passengers off the pants feel at WOT, and if you could do anything different to your current setup what would it be? Thanks in advance.
