P Platers Driving Turbos And V8's
oweban replied to Aussie_Delivered_R32_GTR's topic in New South Wales
Jeeez, didn't know CX7's came in turbo form? Wow. EDIT:: Seems both "Sports" models do (the SP23 engine FWIW), and there's the turbo diesel. True that re: any car can kill you; my Daewoo 1.5i could have gotten up to enough speed to kill me well and truly (given a 4km long stretch of road haha). -
Yep, 5x114.3. https://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html might help, too.
-
.... wait what And this means I'll have to wash the car finally! Geeeez.

That's another thing in Germany; they encourage/enforce (not sure; Kujotk might be able to help me out here) that older cars be taken off the road, and learner drivers only go in cars that are at max 5 years old (I think?). This is so that they have all the safety features they need, not like a VR commodore with shitty brakes and suspension. Also, from memory, when we got the $900 during the GFC, Germany gave €3000 out if you were buying a new German car, to stimulate the economy and to get people in better cars. There's a LOT to be done to increase driver safety and training, and I think a good first step would to be to tighten rego checks a bit.. Would be good to start getting rid of the older cars that just aren't safe, but under the current system will pass a check. And come down hard on places who do dodgy checks for these cars. If we're going to save lives on the road, it's not about slowing down (although that does help); it's about driver training for worst-case scenarios, and changing the attitudes of people towards thinking "she'll be right". The analogy to Australia's binge drinking culture was apt; instead of taking it sensibly, when it's done, it's done to excess. -
Banning is a license to import, not download without paying. If you really wanna support the people who make the games, buy it, even if it's for a lot cheaper from ozgameshop. Sales = more games get made. But true; shouldn't be an AG job, should be parliament in general. Just gotta shut the ACL up from the BAWWWWW THE CHILDRENS vote.
-
This shouldn't be an issue that requires unanimous support. The only problem of that is; where do you draw the line? NSW has the largest population, so do you do it per capita/how many people they represent? or just 60% of the vote from 7 states (so 4 people voting FOR it)? BAH who cares, i'll just import the f**king thing if i can't get it here. only one it hurts is the retailers.

Fair call, and to be expected when it's that case, too. But having said that, I just sold a 1992 Holden Nova for $1200, and I'd done everything I could think of to get it up and reliable as a daily, bar the power steering pump which will need replacing in the next year, and I listed that in the ad, and let them know in person (I ran out of cash to do it; it still works, just makes a bit of noise at the moment). I still put "as is" on the form though, because if something DOES happen in a few months, I know I've done everything I can to check it, but I don't want someone getting narky at me. I'd cleaned the car and engine bay down, but not full degrease, just with a bit of elbow grease. There was still some oil on the engine, but I cleaned the front bit up cause I thought it looked nice Got lazy with the back half. Sucks there's people like that out there though
-
One possible addition for if you're selling it: Add a part that says "Car sold as is". That way if in 1000km the gearbox falls out (and I'd like to think no-one here would be bad enough to knowingly do that to someone), while they may be annoyed at you, you're legally covered.

Yep, my parents would have murdered me if I'd been doing something stupid as a P plater -
I'll just open multiple tabs with the Reply section from each post I want to quote, then copy and paste into one reply If that makes sense? Hmm, I think my car's a bit banged up though compared to anyones I should wash it next weekend; haven't done so for 4-5 months now.

No worries, whenever you get a chance. The main heat soak from the back of the box would more be power steering pump and possible turbo heat...
-
Hi Anthony, Was it alight at the point where it contacts the top of the reo bar? Any pictures? Seems odd that it'd just catch on fire without some kind of huge heat kicking in there

You're absolutely right; I'd love for there to be a system that enforces more driver training from the word go; I did a driver training course not long after getting my Skyline and it's the best damn thing I ever did. I think Germany has a damn good system re: not allowing parents to teach their kids to drive, and having all skidpan days before even getting their license, but you couldn't pull that in Australia... "OHH THE AUSSIE BATTLERS, THINK OF THE BATTLERS, IT'LL COST SO MUCH" etc I guess a bit of respect on the road for everyone else goes a long way; just wish everyone would do it for each other. Ah well! In a perfect world... -
i fear that my car is nowhere near shiny enough to ever look good in photos like these

We'll chalk it up to an overreaction, but the point stands: it's a ridiculously selfish and foolish thing to do. The law's there for a reason, and it's to protect both the public and inexperienced drivers. -

I wrote a post but it didn't work with wireless internet Super: Do yourself, your mate, and the community a favour and beat the living f**k out of that idiot. If I knew who it was and saw him at a set of lights, I'd drag him out of his car and do it to him myself with a club lock. These are the people that think they're above the law and invincible, and they're the ones that make road toll statistics, coupled with possibly taking out a new family. Fuck him, and everything that he is. -
I believe it's immensely harder now to get statutory write-offs re-registered, if not impossible. http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/written_off_vehicles/vehicle_owners/index.html The exemptions are at: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/written_off_vehicles/vehicle_owners/exemptions_wov.html So based off it having been in an accident, I don't think you'll be able to get it registered again in NSW. Might be best to try and get salvage, and part it out?

+1, running 2x Hitachi 2Tb's in RAID 1 in my NAS (Thecus N2200, shaddup) for a while now, still running perfect. Spindown, etc etc works great.

Seats might have to come back on a different weekend.... Getting 4 rims and 2 seats into a commodore along with all the shit I bring back from my parents house + two sub boxes might stretch things a bit...
-
those pics were before texi, they'd driven maybe 300km all up... now they're frayed with chunks missing. forgot to take photos on the weekend, they're the original shots from when i tried and failed to sell them so they're goin free.
