Hey mate, I once bought a car from my mate and when I went to transfer the rego at the RTA they said it had fines against it. They asked if I was friends with him and I said no, I just bought the car from an ad he had placed. They let me do the transfer, so I'd say if you stick with saying that it was advertised and you bought it, you should be ok....but obviously you'll need to call them or go in and see them.
