Just an update. I have the 8474 on the engine now (8374 previously)

It's about 100-200rpm laggier and makes an absolute sh$t tonne more power up top. The 8374 topped out at 650rwhp at 30psi.

This 8474 is just f$c%ing dumb. At 26psi, it's making well and truly over 750rwhp and just keeps going. It doesn't fall over.

    RB28 with Vcam (264/272), 6boost manifold, 3.5inch exhaust, E85, Emtron KV8 etc etc

    Which rear housing with 8474?

I do have legal/emissions compliance to keep in mind unfortunately. But even if there were no such concerns the things I want out of a single turbo RB26 doesn't really exist as far as I know. Short runners, low-mount, proper heat shielding instead of just having an exhaust manifold + turbo inches away from heat-sensitive components, real thought given to minimizing the changes to things other than the turbo + manifold + intake piping, and twin scroll. Basically look at a BMW B58 or N55, that's the goal in my head. I know that's a really tall order but this is a street car, not a track build. Someone I know has gone through stock turbos -> HKS GT-SS -> GTX3576R gen 2 and he absolutely loses power at the critical ~3000-4000 RPM area where I spend a lot of time at on the street contrary to what Motive found.

I had HKS gtss with cam gears dialled, stock cams, 3800rpm all in @22psi, night and day difference over stock turbos and any perceived “response” loss

8374 efr + vcam is another level of ass kicking again if you inclined

R35 coils and the greatest spark plugs in the world, Denso IK01-24 or NGK R7434-8 and forget about it for a couple of years.

they can be had from RHD japan for relatively reasonable money. supercheap will hit you for $99 a plug.

Shouldn't we be using NGK R7436 (JIS 53mm) instead of R7434 (ISO 50.5mm)?

I went from a 7163 to 8374 to 8474 to 9174 and I am glad I did, it's an incredible turbo with amazing spool.

My car is not a Skyline sorry, it's an EVO X with sleeved and built 2.16cc engine (plazmaman IC, direct port meth injection, S2 cams, sequential 6 speed etc)

8474 was twinscroll  IWG and only 0.8 A/R rear

9174 was twinscroll EWG with 1.45 A/R rear

The 8474 came onto boost way too hard and made it undrivable (like between 3.5k to 4.5k was vertical on the dyno).

The 9174 we all thought being so much bigger rear housing would be lag city but surprisingly it was about the same as the 8474 (we only changed the turbo and nothing else). I see 1.5bar (22psi) by 4,300rpm. I am not done yet, I'm increasing the downpipe and going to S3 cams (Time attack car).

Recall difference going from 8374 to 8474, same turbine size?

  5. Hi peeps, got engine run-in and tuned by Jez few days back

    Results

IMG_20201014_194813_985.thumb.jpg.e9b4cf1cc7bf70c1ae00dd94647e28bf.jpg488kw on EFR8374 1.05, boost around 27psi and tapers back up top, E85 (red) 98 (green)

    2.8 nitto stroker with v-cam

    received_825612788207813.thumb.jpeg.33c49abd6bc21348a33c04c9b38e10ce.jpegreceived_1047539152340922.thumb.jpeg.cb6e5aab6bd40efa49d17201d62243d4.jpeg

Full boost around 4k during dyno run (boost is filtered so doesn't show real response) but in steady state load tuning it makes 27psi by 3300rpm

    1000nm torque by 5k

Making 50% of max power by 4500, that's amazing.  Tempting me to switch from my 8474 to twin 6258s

Is anybody able to take measurements of the EFR9280 compressor, I'm seeing if I have enough clearance on my engine to run and test it compared to the 9180 which I have on me which fit fine on a 6boost T4 in a R33 GTR engine bay

got dyno chart, i recall you also running 2.8 with vcam

    yep i have a 6 boost with single divided outlet, 8374 1.05 on a 2.6l rb26

    50mm progate, 7psi spring a 4 port mac valve.

no creep above 10psi of boost. below this you are asking too much flow through the gate. the lowest boost run was with the boost solenoid unplugged from ecu.

great result, is max boost around 28psi? i have same turbo setup, except will be on 2.8 with vcam, looks like i need to step it up to 8474 at the very least

Just wondering if anyone here has had any work done at kass bodyworks? Looking at getting a repsray done potentially.

    thanks

no direct dealing, but i recall seeing a JEM customer car (R32) painted there recently, hit up their FB
