  1. so let me get this straight, you put on a boost guage, then get pulled over, the cop notices the guage and asks to lift your bonnet, he cant notice anything but you got a guage so he pits you to get it further inspected, then you will come on here and complain about pit inspections???? why oh why??

  2. Yeah, I couldnt attempt this myself. My mechanical abilities are limited to general servicing lol - the biggest thing ive done myself is replacing a water pump when I had the rb20 in it and swapped over the shocks/springs to coilovers twice. It just looks embarrasing really, like I dont look after my car. Looks like I will be waiting for my mates brother to return for a couple of months.

  3. Ah ok thanks for the explanation.......yeah if you know the road its a long steep downhill run. I rarely touch the accelerator pedal so what your saying makes sense to me. Expensive fix?, while the seals are getting replaced, what else should I be doing/replacing to keep the engine maintained?? would the car need a retune after??

  4. I dont think it was particularly cold outside, maybe low 20s, would that be considered low??

Also I know the turbo was brand new when I did the conversion and upgrade, well when the workshop did the upgrade and conversion, I also got them to replace all coolant hoses on the engine, rear main seal on the engine, new water pump, timing belt cam seals etc, basically everything was replaced with new while the engine was out and easy to get to, however the engine itself wasnt opened up. It was a low km 2nd hand series 2 rb25 so I was told. It was a known workshop, but has since closed down, but the owner now works at a powertune. Im sure the seals for the turbo to exhaust would have been new also if thats what you mean??

I will prob take it to powertune - where the owner now works as he knows the car, just trying to get an idea of what the problem could be, hence how much I am looking at to getting it fixed as money is kinda short at the moment.

Thanks for your help guys so far

  5. Hey guys,

I've noticed white smoke coming from my exhaust the last couple of times I've driven down Bulli pass when I stop to turn left on Lawrence Hargrave drive. It doesn't do it any other time except coming down that hill which is a pretty steep grade - 1 in 6 I think its posted as.

My car is a r32gtst with an rb25, 3071r turbo, injectors, power fc etc. The engine and mods have only seen about 40000km in three years since the conversion. It does not appear to be using more oil than usual, coolant levels are good also. I have checked most vacuum/boost lines and I don't their is any air leak.

Any idea what could be causing the smoke??

    Thanks

    Mick

  6. just a though about insurance and authorities should there be an acco. if you didn't have the correct towing capacity on the towing vehicle, and I don't mean what the towbar is rated at, you might have a problem. im not 100% how insurance companies would view this

  7. yeah sounds great overall, happy but i think i should have got two seperate amps and maybe that second sub, at times seems to be struggling to keep up with the splits - ill be playing around with different enclosures(sealed) in the new year to try and help. wishing i still had access to uni of wollongong's elec department oscilloscope and rta though lol. multimeters are ok but when you've used the proper equipment its hard to use the basics and expect fantastic results

the vertical tabs to stop things sliding through the pockets was identified early and appropriate measures were taken lol. lets be honest here, they arent much use for storing anything other than a couple of cds here and there, it doesnt help having sausage fingers either.

not sure what you mean about the grounding though chris??

  8. it would help to know specifics......... what amp? rms/impedance values even? also what impedance are your subs?, are they dual voice coil? are they designed for sealed enclosures or vented?

as for will it sound better with two........there are a number of variables, like impedance values, whether its dual voice coil or not, dvc on two subs depending upon impedance can be wired/configured to give you a higher or lower impedance at your amp. if your amp is 1ohm stable why wouldnt you want to run it at that, generally 1 or 2 ohm will give you more power, yes run hotter, but safely all day.

Also dependent on whether a muppet built your sub box or not. f**k 9/12mm ply covered in thick carpet. 18mm mdf is needed!!! Also very dependent on whether its been designed to the correct volume. Smaller volumes (for sealed enclosures) will give punchy tight bass, larger volumes for deeper. If its for vented subs, thats a whole different game when you can play around with vent dimensions and tune the setup to have a higher output at a specific frequency. There is an optimal range for every loudspeaker.

  9. hi mate,

im beginning photography also, i recently bought a new slr. one of my cameras scenes is one point colour, basically i line up the shot then select the colour i want to stand out with the remaining colours going grayscale. maybe your sony has this option? if not im sure it wouldnt be too hard to edit this after to one point colour

also try not to have vertical things coming from your car in the background. maybe a good background would be the pinks/oranges of a sunset perhaps, might reflect on your paint and be real nice.

try joining australian photgraphy forum, heaps of people with know how on there, they also have an automotive photography section.

    good luck

  10. So I finally got around to uploading almost a years worth of photos to the pc. I installed the gear back in september pretty easily, a little mucking around to fit the krx2 in the front doors, but all the trims fitted correctly after. I might have 5mm clearance on the back of the woofer to the window glass when down, also the x-overs are in the doors and fit perfectly towards the hinge end.

Here are the pics, comments welcome
