  1. Was Targa Hellyer run to the new weight rules? The Evo 9's still seem to have a pretty clear advantage, although obviously very well driven. How noticeable was the extra weight Ben?

  5. 1984 Nissan DR30 Skyline RS-X Turbo Tarmac Rally Car Genuine RS-X Turbo Coupe, imported around 2000 by Just Jap Sydney and built to run Targa Tasmania 2001. After owner competed (ticked off bucket list) car was returned to Just Jap Sydney and painted in Bathurst colours and used as a showroom display car for the business. Seldom used since and bought by myself in 2011 to rebuild to LMS specs for Targa Tasmania 2014. We have an R32 GTR Tarmac Rally car also, can't keep them both so one has to go.   6. 1989 Nissan skyline R32 GTR Tarmac Rally Car For Sale Genuine black R32 GTR , imported and complied around 2006 as a 4.5 level car. Never any accident damage or rust. Built into a Tarmac Rally car in 2010 at enormous cost. Very successful history including 2 x Targa Tasmania’s, 2 x Targa High Country’s and Targa Wrest Point. Would suit Tarmac Rally, Time Attack or weekend Top Gear series car that you can drive to and from the track. Always serviced, pre-race prepped and tuned by GT Auto Garage.   7. I have had a look back through some posts on here from a few years back with Wooster and Co when he was asking the same thing, and I think I have answered my own questions. Seems an Evo7 RS is probably the preferred model, but no ABS? Then again maybe a GSR and change the rear AYC diff is easier than retrofitting ABS to an RS. It also seems that while there may be a few Evo 8's out there that have been changed back to 7 spec, this isn't allowed for under the rules and not really the thing to do..
  8. So the wife is looking at changing to an Evo for Targa this year, and I know more about gynaecology than I do about Evo's.. I know there are a few Evo runners on this thread, so what is the general consensus on the best model for EM? Evo 6, Evo 7? I believe there are even some repannelled Evo 8's running in EM? Asked Targa about this but got no reply? The RS's are lighter, have mech diffs etc, but is the ADC/AYC on the GSR's overall better for the variable weather conditions of Targa. Help please.. I will be running the DR30 though, just need to pull my finger out and get it finished
  9. So the fuel system return and surge return tee back into the main tank? How big is the surge tank? This would definitely keep the fuel cooler, as long as the surge tank doesn't run dry..

We have the surge tank etc in the boot, but mounted in a liquid/acid proof battery box sealed to the floor and vented to under the car, so technically keeps the fuel system still external to the cabin. Saves on stinky fuel smelling interior too. One thing I have noticed now though is with this system the fuel temps are alot higher, without the advantage of the area of the standard tank to cool the return fuel. Experimented at Lakeside last year. Put 5kg of bagged ice around the surge tank, Mel did 5 laps, and when she came back you could have made a nice cup of tea from the hot water in the bag! Don't quite know the answer to this one yet, maybe refit the air con and run a precooler through the evaporator ala Porsche Turbos? Has to be sapping power throwing in fuel at 30-40 degrees by the end of a long stage..
  11. Bad luck Dan, You were doing extremely well till then, very consistant too! What was the single most impressive part of the car from a now drivers perspective? Another thought is to check you are not getting fuel starvation (very similar tell tale traits..) Melinda did an engine in the Skyline at Wrest point a few years back. We thought it was fuel pump for sure, but did some testing after and found that under a third of a tank in an R32 Skyline led to serious starvation on long right hand corners. Was never a problem in the R33, but different fuel tanks. Not sure what fuel loads/fuel system you were running, just a thought.. Tim, saw the photo of the wire up job on the exhaust, reminded me of a gravel rally bodge job, good to see that it worked. Looked like an aftermarket extractor type manifold? All the gravel guys running these are changing them every few events as they just don't seem to be able to handle the heat and punishment that a standard cast manifold can? cheers paul
