  1. I thought the limiter was set at 180kph on Jap models ... yet the driver says he was doing 214kph when passed??? Both great cars ... personally I would love either one to be in my garage.
  2. $4k thats lucky, I would imagine losing a car you love because it is deemed a "write off" would be a heart break. And kudos to you for having comprehensive insurance Whats is your excess? that can be a killer!
  3. it's true, if it wasn't for the Melbourne part I would have assumed it was you here ..... help yourself
  4. yeah when I had the SLK320 I was really surprised at the get up and go of the line ... it ran out of puff after midrange and the weird electrical errors occasionally were a bit disconcerting, but they were a great car except for being a convertible, I always thought a vert would be cool but after owning one, a moon roof is as far as I would go nowadays.
  5. not much ... eyeing off the new M3 and thinking of trading in

    Fuel Prices

I agree with Keegs, make it work for you if you can However, Australia until recently produced 80% of it's own oil and the fact that our petrol prices are high has more to do with the Bilateral trade agreements that were signed with the US than it does with the price of a barrel of oil produced by the OPEC countries. This is one area where the government of the day (regardless of whether it is Liberal or Labor) have sold us down the shitter, they get a percentage of tax from petrol and for arguments sake 40% of a $1.50 is more money to them than 40% of $1.20 ... so watch how fast they move on this i.e. not at all
  7. No not really ... but I had background purchase history with the BMW Dealer beforehand PS Thank you, I like it too ... ain't no R8 though
  8. agreed, they should be stricken from the range altogether!!!
  9. funniest thread ever seriously though, go and rent or borrow another quality car (sorry but Jap won't cut it, unless it is a late model NSX) Ring them up before you go in, make an inquiry about a lower spec Audi, ask them if they will do a trade in on whatever it is you have (hopefully it is something above $100k for an R8). Make an appointment to test drive the lower spec car, show up in the "borrowed" car make sure they see you arrive and ask them to give you an evaluation for trade, then start asking about other cars, eventually working your way to the R8, ask if you can take it for a test drive, they will probably say no. Say you will be in touch regarding what you were able to test drive. Come back a week later and ask again, make sure you get the same sales person. You will find them to be more compliant this time around. This will be the time to start asking about what is required to purchase the R8. Let them start to work out the figures, you will have to do your research here on how much you need to earn to pay for this. For gods sake do not say you work for someone else, even if you are a lawyer or Doctor. You will only be able to own this car if you have your own successful business. Tell him you are really interested but you are also looking at a couple of other cars - Porsche GT3 or BMW M6 for example. However you will not proceed negotiations any further without a test drive. This may happen on the second visit or maybe the third. You will not have to dress up (in fact some of the richest people I have met, wear shorts and T-shirts to this kind of stuff) under no circumstances act like a wanker unless you want them to bring the car to your $3+ million dollar Mansion for test driving a couple of days later. But realistically I think they will call your bluff, if you have no history with them like Jamezilla said. At that end of the market you are easily verifiable or you are a tyre kicker, simple as that.
  10. It could also have been the 2nd most common reason why cars are on the side of the road seemingly abandoned (apart from the stolen joyride) i.e. the cars owner has had a warrant for their arrest and have been pulled over by the police and taken away. the car sits there for days, they don't know anyone who will come and drive it away for them, whilst they are gargling mayo in jail (lets face it, criminals are wankers and have wanker friends who wouldn't want to get involved and help a fellow wanker out) Car gets a yellow "move car" sticker on it, then a second sticker ... car gets stripped, then taken for scrap. End story .... everyone lives happily ever after! I am not saying this is what happened in this case, but not all abandoned cars are stolen.
