  1. I was watching triple j's tv show the other week, and in the Hack segment, there is quite a few shots of somebodies white (i think) s2 Stagea. Its parked outside somebodies house which was being frequented by squatters. I kinda forgot to post about it tho until now. So, anyhoo, I went to see if the video is on the net, and it is (well I think) http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/tv/video/hack.htm Go to that page, and the video you want to watch is "Squatters in HACK" Unfortunately, the video doesn't seem to load on my computer. So maybe someone can re-check it out on there and put up if it was a white s2 or not. Cheers, Qumulys
  2. Wooooooooooooooooot, I finally spotted my first other on the road Stagea! *happy dance*. I was running late for a doctors appointment yesterday arvo around 2:30pm, but I noticed a stag leaving the pakenham lakeside estate, so I decided to chase them down. Ok, dont laugh, the details are sketchy because I was running very late, and mostly because I was so darn excited! It was white (or maybe silver.... *rolls eyes*) and a very tidy looking S1 with number plates along the lines of UYL*** or UVL*** or something like that. Anyone on here?
  3. Heya Chook, Yep, things are much better now, so I'm super happy No probs with id'ing the problem, I'm just annoyed at myself for taking so long to get my arse into gear for finding out what was going wrong. But I'd agree with you and suggest that anyone who isn't running the ariels on a seperate relay supply should do so, you are overdoing the asuka units ariel power supply, and it would be a bummer to go back to no tv again! As I said before, dont let this put anyone off from buying one of these units, they are top class
  4. Yep, all stations back, and from a quick cruise to pick the kids up, much better reception than it was giving before. The line I've tapped into was already relay switched for the rear dvd player, so, it was really a 5 minute job in the end once it was sorted and a much healthier voltage is shared by all. Typical Stagea, even the tv ariels are a super hyped up version!!
  5. Cheers, thanks heaps chook. I've connected the ariel amps up to a seperate 12v accesories supply, and the voltage in them stays at around 11.98volts now So, I guess supplying two amps with power is a tad too much for the unit, its a simple bypass tho, so please anyone who reads this don't be put off. Its an excellent unit. You may find a slight improvement if you wire yours up like mine too chook bypassing the 12v outs from the asuka. Maybe mine was just a tad too low to get them working optimally, and reception is pretty crumby in my area at the best of times. I'll be able to see is there's some improvements in a day or two, I'm just happy its working again. *Does a happy dance* Thanks heaps, Jeff
  6. Actually, I did a recheck. When the blue 12v ariel power wire is connected to the ariel loom, it is showing 8.1 volts. However, after I de-soldered it, the blue wire shows 11.9 volts. So there is a voltage drop of 3.8 volts when the ariels are connected. Can anybody check theres please? I should also mention that the unit is using both inputs 1 and 2, being a dvd player system (pal) in the back seat for the kids, although I'm only running the audio not video through the unit so it can use the cars stereo. Input 2 is running a games system for the back screens also. Both of which seems to be running fine, not a worry in the world. The unit also supplies the tv signal to the back screens, which are pal, so the means the front screen is unwatchable if the kids want to watch tv, but thats fine as im driving and only used the tv when parked. Cheers, Jeff
  7. Heya all, hopefully chook or someone else who has installed this unit may be able to help me. I've run into some problems unfortunately. As I reported earlier, shortly after I had the unit installed, it lost all its stations after an auto search. Bummer, but a hit of the reset switch seemed to fix everything and it detected the stations no worries. But a few weeks back I went on holidays up to nsw, and did a rescan because I was getting no signal in the middle of whoop whoop. I thought it might pick up a diferrent reginal station. But, it scanned nothing, so I lost all previous stations. I didnt know if this was because there was no signal, or it needed resetting. Anyway, I didnt get round to rescanning until I got home, and still nothing came up. I tried the reset button, but it still didnt scan anything. So just today I have made some time to check the wiring, I thought perhaps there was a short in the ariel connections perhaps seeing as the center core is very thin and at risk of bending up on insertion (keep mind out of the gutter ppls). But the came out looking fine. I did some checks with a multimeter, and there was no shorting present between the centre core and outer braided lines. I tried one ariel at a time, still nothing scans. I checked the voltages, the red input is at 12.3 volts, fine, the yellow is at 11.9 volts, a little under but the should be fine. However, the blue line which is supposed to supply the ariels with 12 volts according to the instructions, is only putting out 8.1 volts. The 8.1 volts is only present when the plug is in the asuka unit, so the voltage drop is occering within the unit. What I want to know is, has anyone checked the voltage of the blue 12v line to the ariels? are you supposed to be getting 12volts? Do you think it would be detrimental to just run the 12 volts from the yellow line into the ariels, bypassing the asuka unit to ensure 12volts? Any help would be fantastic. Cheers, Jeff
  8. Xmetal, that shot is really awesome. What sort of filters are you using on your lens? I've only got a cheapo dslr, I'm not very good at using it yet, but am always after some useful tips. Anyways, heres a pic I did which has been heavily touched up in photoshop..... I got my stag because I needed a car I could fit a wheelchair in through the front door *check*, It also had to fit in my garage and be able to lift the tailgate with the garage roller door down *check*, I needed it to be comfy and sporty *check and check*, and I needed a flat, easy access rear compartment so I could slide in aquariums easily that I make *check*. All those things, and they look darn hort too! *CHECK!*
  9. Bah, I just got back from a great trip, Melbourne to Batemans Bay in NSW. What a cruise! All I can say is I've made that trip every year for the last 20 years, and this one was by far the most exillerating. By the time I got home, I wanted to turn around and go again instead of just crash from exaustion. The stag never missed a beat, it just pulls round the corners like its stuck on roller coaster rails. All that way, and STILL I have not spotted another Stag, or been spotted by someone yet... Although the front bar is now spotted with a few thousand insect carcasses..... Clean up time...
  10. Yeah, I dont like your chances of someone saying, here have my doors, unless they want the moke look You can always give it a go yourself. Back when I was 16 I hand made all the entire lower sills, and sections in the doors of my lj torana.... Oh the memories. The metal is the cheap bit, but luckily mig welders are a heap cheaper these days. I think around the $500 mark. Just give it a go, you might surprise yourself Here she is, obviously not quite completed at that stage, but I had just done the respray, home jobby too...
  11. Big thanks to Chook for my unit. I had heaps of questions about the unit and the install process and he helped me with every step. My install went relatively smoothy once we worked out how to pull all the panels out. I have found that I have no car acceleration interference noise when I use the tv side of the unit. I used expensive 50cm wires for that connection, however, I have a seperate dvd (cheapo) unit in the back seat with seperate screens for the kids, I had to use longer cables, and they were of pretty ordinary quality. The result? I get heaps of interference noise when I switch the unit to the input from the dvd drive. I'm trying to decide whether to rip apart the boot again and replace the wires with some better quality cable, or install a noise suppressor, this is not the units fault I must stress. I did have one other issue today tho, all of a sudden it would not get any signal from any station, so I performed the auto scan again, and it found no stations at all. Odd I thought, maybe the anntenas had shorted out?? So I was about to pull it all out and check my wiring again, but I noticed the reset switch on it, I hit that, and the auto scan came up with all the channels again no problem. So, I'm not sure what caused that, but a simple reset seemed to work, I know my home DVB locks up almost daily, I guess thats the digital age for ya! Other than that the unit works quite well, its solidly built, top quality and keeps a steady picture going even with fairly bad signal strength (52%) Cheers, Jeff
  12. Well, thats odd for a couple of reasons. Firstly, when I called Shannon's the guy there told me they wouldn't insure Stagea's...??? Secondly, he said to call Just Cars, as they are part of the Shannons company...??? Go figure?? Anyhoo, I called Just Cars, gave my details, (30, retired, semi-rural, lock-up garage, no fines) and got 20,000 comprehensive coverage, in a slightly modified (suspension, wheels) 98 Stagea. All for a very nice $570. (I did put up my excesses to reduce the cost tho, but I havn't made any claims since I started driving, so I'm happy). They do require a proper ADR alarm tho... I must look into that asap.
  13. Very nice looking Stag you got there, I agree the black and gold looks sweeet. Very low k's too, thats only 3300 km's a year, which is around 8 tanks of the expensive petroly stuff a year. I've only had my stag a bit over a week and filled her up twice already! Just keep an eye on things like seals because with such low km's they would have a tendency to perish over time.
  14. I've traced a grinding noise that can be heard around the drivers seat. It appears to be coming from the drivers teeth, particularly when watching how fast the fuel tank needle is dropping. Seriously though, there is a fair amount of what sounds like diff noise coming from the front when slowing down of the accelerator, but I'm hoping thats just the 4wd system and its completely normal.... Tell me its completely normal.... I'm broke now
  15. Ahhh ok, cheers. But the rear wing mystery continues for us both then!
  16. Got my Stagea a few days ago. Its a s2 with most of the options to increase luxury and reduce performance Its got leather interior, xanavi unit, heated seats, cold area options, twin sunroofs etc. Its also got an autech (im pretty sure) front on it, but I dont what the rear bar is yet.. any ideas? Its also got a different spoiler to most I've seen with a brake light in it. The wheels are 17's and it has adjustable tein suspension (a nice bonus to find!) It also had a mystery button on the dash which after some fiddling turns out to be a 'tv works in drive mode thingo' button. *happy dance* Im trying to decide whether I should lower it a bit or not yet, curse you whoever came up the the speed hump idea.... Anyways, here's some pics! Sorry dialuppers!
  17. I haven't got my stag yet, so I'm just going on common sense here. But it looks like the cover has all the answers on it, blue one to the right is 'start' the next over to the right is 'head lamps' and everything else seems to be in place as per the pic on the cover, so going on that I'd say the one missing is definitely for the fog lamps. Cheers, Jeff
  18. Just putting up a big thanks to chook for the effort involved in this, I cant wait to get mine! *happy dance* Cheers
  19. Ahhh its so sad seeing a car you've put so much effort into disapere around the corner never to be seen again (I know that pain). I saw your car for sale the day AFTER I put down a deposit on my Stagea, otherwise your car would be sitting in my drive right now, but I'm in the eastern suburbs too, so you might have caught glimpses of it from time to time. Mind you, the Evo would certainly be putting a smile on your dial.... company car, I want your boss!
  20. Could be you have arthritis in your right foot
  21. Big congrats on the auction win!! I cant imagine the wait you have ahead of you, because I've been waiting nearly 3 weeks, and I'm about to start a candle light vigil outside the dealers when it finally gets complienced. The wait is the killer, screw the $$$$$'s pop those pics up ASAP Cheers, Jeff
  22. Went to re-check out the car today, the guy told me ANOTHER 1-2 weeks for complience... he told be that 2 weeks ago... Anyway, steering buttons did work, it was just the extra button. The spoiler on the other hand, does foul the roof, but only just. Its not actually hitting the roof, but rather the very back edge of the roof racks, and its so slight that it really is not worth the worry. I did find a small crack in the front spoiler which he will repair. I took some pics, but only with a phone so they are a little dodgey. Mines the one with the tempory plates hanging off the back, so its been lowered a fair bit as you can see. The wheels had some curb damage on them, so he's going to swap them for the mags on the Stagea next to mine in this pic. Here's the spoiler type. Is this a standard factory spoiler option or aftermarket? And here's mine from the front, you can see the small crack at the bottom right. Is this a factory front option or aftermarket again? Either way, I'm in love with it already!!
  23. Howdy all, I Just recieved the RACV vehicle test info about my soon to be mine series 2 Stagea. There were a few minor issues, some paint chips etc, adjustable suspension (nice bonus..??). They also reported that the steering wheel tiptronic buttons didn't work, but on talking with the dealer he assured me there is a button to activate it and most likely the racv guys didnt know about, so I hope that is indeed the case when I take it for a test drive tomorrow. The other odd thing mentioned was that the rear tailgate spoiler hits the roof when the tailgate is raised. Is that normal??? If not, is it easy enough to rectify? As far as I know the body-kit is a factory job, but has a more aggresive look than the standard kit, I wasn't really paying to much attention to the bodykit, just the feature set and low kays were my main priority.... Any help would be great, Cheers, Jeff
  24. Wow, thanks for all those suggestions Im pretty much the same distance for those places so I'll give them a call and see who I feel comfortable with, knowing they all come highly reccomended I cant go wrong for once! I was planning on spending a few grand on some minor upgrades, which would have been nice to do at the same time, but a friend of mine is having a rough trot at the moment with family illness, so I'll have to look at mods down the track. I'd also like to know some good re-sprayers like Fuzzy, so I would be interested to see what comes up. Thanks again! Cheers, Jeff
  25. I had a few pics of this 1949 Single Spinner from the Pakenham hot rod show last year unfortunately there were too many ppl to get a good side on shot, but i found a small side on pic on the net.
