  1. Unfortunately i never really got to update this after the turbo swap as the whole setup was letdown by the stock engine finally getting tired! I have punished the thing for over 10 years and many of those have been at 500whp... It was stock, including the headgasket which has seen 30 psi numerous times due to boost control issues prior to the upgrade.

So, when i ran the turbo on low boost it was mental, it was faster than the car has ever been and was good enough for a 1.39 at SMSP GP on basically bald semi slicks as they were around 400 laps old! The car was also bring on all shift lights in 5th on the straight!

I have another stock motor lined up for the car but am also considering a built motor, i always said i would never go down that path but will do the sums and evaluate what is best!

I still think my stock motor has been one of the best that i know of! Its done in excess of 200k and still hauls ass on track, the last compression and leak down tests were so low but the thing keeps amazing me!

by "i've seen" I mean USA results on Evo's and STI's etc. Given how the turbo behaves and looking at it on my car on the dyno I wouldn't find it that suprising if you want to really lean on it like the 'Muricans seem to do. I wouldn't be surprised if mine gets to 450, given it's getting very close to 400 at 17psi, which most would consider is very very lazy.

It's certainly not a "350kw" turbo, nor is it out of legs and "400 is maxxing it out" region of turbo either, which to me is what you'd expect if you're dropping a size down from the 8374. Quite a few people have thought of putting a 7670 onto stock RB25's and to me it just doesn't seem like a great idea for both keeping the bottom end in one piece, and lag, considering 7k rev limit as opposed to the 26 with 8.

Mine has been at 8200rpm for years and spent a lot of time there too!

Stock bottom end RB25... I considered the 7670 but wanted room for more power later when i get a built engine etc...

My first response is that NO setup is going to be the "silver bullet" for performance.  It's only about achieving an acceptable compromise.  It's always been amazing to review logs for how an engine behaves on-road (or track) and see how different that is compared to a dyno.  What you've got isn't necessarily bad, but with the spiking there's room to make it less wrong.

Secondly, the big thing (for me) is how does it feel? And can the chassis setup (which includes tyres) actually use it without just turning rubber to smoke?  Edits ^^ from your post sort of indicate that you're actually in "about" the right performance area for a 2wd R chassis. Without the cheater traction advantage of a GTR, it's pointless IMO to try to emulate/expect the same sort of engine performance as a GTR because it probably won't work to best effect.

Have a look at what Mat has achieved with the 8374 on a 25 Neo.  And look closely at the WG takeoff angles.  Now he has no issues with boost control, but the target in that instance is going to be North of 20psi so direct comparisons aren't possible if you are for some reason targeting 15psi (arbitrary figure chosen).

Perhaps Mat could offer experiences/opinions regarding the 8374 on an RB25, and his take on what applications that would best suit and/or what compromises would have to be accepted.  Bear in mind it's experiences from a guy who's actually achieving some pretty solid results without major dramas.

** Somewhere in amongst this, I'm seeing that we are fixating on boost pressure as the measure of turbocharger control.  There is enough tech available in Greg's setup that perhaps turbo speed is where the thoughts are best focused** :)

Bit late to the party on this one Dale :P I forgot my SAU password so have been offline for ages

The 8374 on stock RB25 NEO was not something i was convinced would work, especially with the big 1.05 rear on it, but now i have had the thing on track i am glad a few of the guys from Fabtech, Benchmark, Full Race and other places steered me in the direction as the car is a weapon even on gate pressure.

Due to the tired engine we haven't run it  at higher boost levels but on semi slicks on a roller dyno its seeing anywhere from 340kw-360kw but i can tell you its WAY faster than my old HTA setup that supposedly had 390kw on high boost!

If i was to drive this thing daily again i still think the 8374 would be an OK choice but i would be more inclined to go the 7670 just for that added response. The smaller IWG rear housing may help with that, but my car wont be seeing the road again so i am very happy with what i have!

I get asked a lot what the response is like with the 8374 and its a tough one to answer as my results are not relevant to street use, i find it a tad laggy leaving pit lane, but once its on full boost (4500rpm ish) its on boost consistently and feels super responsive between shifts and recovers boost extremely quick! Not often its off boost when on track so lag is really an issue!

Unfortunately my RB is getting a bit tired and i have been suffering oil control issues for the last few rounds of the season but ill get a fresh low km NEO bottom end in it before next round and see if i can get that sorted! For an engine with low comp figures it still makes a lot of power and hauls ass on track!

There are images of the setup back in this thread for those that haven't seen it, its a combo of EFR8374, Fabtech/Hypex twin scroll manifold, twin 40mm turbosmart gates plumbed back into a 4inch dump and full 3.5inch straight through exhaust with single Magnaflow muffler, the thing is whisper quiet on track. It has all braided boost lines now to prevent any boost issues, Turbosmart BOV and the whole setup is heat coated. Probably other stuff i have forgotten to list but its a good setup!

That is my feedback anyway

........... but it's a race car? why not gates out of the bonnet or out of the quarter panel like Ryan Tuerck's car?

Will do a screamer setup later! For now i just need a base tune so i can go thrash

95 dB if you hassle them during track hiring time

Mine was on the 95 mark last time i went out and they had no issues as it was a Time Attack event...

  5. My whole FP HTA setup is up for sale! Figured here was probably a good spot to mention it as all the results and info can be found on Page 1.

Basically everything on the hotside i used to make the 390kw is included as i have upgraded the lot.

Turbo, manifold, gate. dump, fittings and lines, full exhaust, intake pipe and filter, BOV and cooler pipe etc etc

Turbo has just had new bearings and seals so is AS NEW, just had $680 spent on it (Was quoted $880 through GCG for the same repair).

Whole setup is around $3k which is cheap for what you get! PM me if interested!

    Oohh, shiny

Looking forward to your results, hope everything comes together nicely!

So far so good! Nearly ready for the tune... Just been tidying up some small stuff while its at Fabtech...

It all runs and is nice and quiet with the new stainless exhaust system... It no longer sounds like a tug boat at idle

Will be interesting to see what it sounds like at full noise!

You had a good run with your HTA turbo, what made you decide to go for a BW over say the next HTA up like a 3582 ?

It actually wasnt the turbo that i wanted to upgrade, it was everything supporting it such as manifold, gate and dump... So i figured if i was going to that expense i might as well look at alternatives. I spoke to a lot of people and this "EFR" topic came up a fair bit... So i looked into it and it seemed to fit the bill... Ill find out mid next week if i made the right choice :ninja:

Turbo, manifold and gates had final fitment today. Dump pipe has been test fit and we are already to complete the assembly tomorrow.

Once we fab the rear section of the exhaust and the intake pipe etc we will be ready to fire it up. Should be running tomorrow arvo and on the dyno soon after.

We took the time to delete the ABS and re-route some wiring and coolant lines etc away from the heat, doing as much as we can to get some reliability.

Here is the ceramic coating on the gates -

    Re: that twin gate setup

Not worried about melting the lid/diaphragm of the gate that is almost in direct contact with the dump pipe, on the track?
I got lots of 'worried looks' about where my gate sat and it was nowhere even close to the dump as that one is?

There is actually an air gap between the 2 of them, the image is a little deceiving... Everything will be heat coated so i guess its a matter of try and see how it goes!

The back gate is sitting just under the old ABS unit area that is being removed this week, its pretty tight one all the pipes start going together!

  9. R34GTT and Performance Parts Sale - Turbo/Gate/Manifold/Carbon/Exhausts etc etc

I have a heap of parts for sale to Suit R34GTT and other skylines... Most parts have been run on my R34GTT... Some are brand new and unused!

All parts currently located Newcastle area, Pick up at Tomago 2322  preferred during business hours Monday to Friday.

I will update this with more items when i get the time! Everything needs to clear as i need room and the cash for my new setup.

Here is a group shot of a lot of the parts listed below, i can take specific photos of certain items if requested -

    1) Full Forced Performance HTA 3076 Turbo kit with 6Boost manifold and Tial 44mm gate ***Turbo just rebuilt and AS NEW***

This turbo kit has been on my R34 since 2013 and has made a peak power of 524hp/391kw at the tyres on 28psi boost on a stock engine.

    Package can include -

HTA3076 turbo with 0.82 rear housing (Fresh rebuild 4 weeks ago with receipt for $680.00, turbo AS NEW)

    Speedflow fittings and lines

    6Boost T3 single scroll manifold

Tial 44mm MV-R wastegate (Needs to be checked)

3" Dump Pipe with plumb back and screamer option

    Decat pipe

4 inch intake pipe and BMC air filter

Intercooler pipe with new silicon joiner

GFB Respons BOV with plumb back option

Will throw in one of the exhaust systems below if i get the price i want. May also separate the package, however the turbo will need to sell first before i consider the option. I have 3 interested in the 6Boost manifold already. The 6Boost has had a professional repair recently for a crack where the runner joins the collector, it is in used condition and working well.

Pics and info can be found here on page 110 and plenty of other pages -

The current asking price for all of the above is $3250.00 and is a complete bolt on package. If this price is met i will offer one of the exhaust systems below to make it a whole bolt on package. Pick up only due to the size of the stuff. Off the car now and ready to go!

If the turbo is to sell seperately i want $1950.00 for it as it is basically new and a better option than the GTX version for RB engines. Look up the HTA thread for more info if needed... This turbo package makes a fair bit of power with good response! Its a lot of fun on the street and on the track! After this sells i will consider selling the other items, would prefer this goes as a package for someone though as its much better value and a whole lot less hassle for me!

    2) R34GTT Carbon Boot Lid

Brand new never used. Purchased from Just Jap (Have receipt somewhere). Trial fit on my car but wouldn't work with my wing setup without hacking it up, fitment was average at the bases but will suit drift or race cars as its super light! Sell Price $400.00ono (Paid $500-600 from memory).

    3) HKS Super Dragger 3.5Inch exhaust.

Originally to suit 33GTST but modified the front section to fit R34GTT. The muffler has been removed and replaced with a straight pipe for race car/drift car application but can simply be changed back to street spec with a simple weld. This is 3" into 3.5" and has a great note too it! Was used on my race car which turned the muffler a goldy colour which looks awesome. Price $300.00.

    4) Apexi WS2 3" Catback exhaust system

This was the exhaust that ran on my car when i purchased it and stayed on for around 7 years! It was dead quiet but flowed enough to support the 390kw the car had at the time! It was extremely quiet but had a nice note on full throttle. The centre muffler has been removed to give it a little more sound but is supplied with the sale. Price $300.00
