yep for sure.. the higher effective octane rating of E85 means you can squander that advantage either with higher boost at the top end, or much higher compression to gain more torque everywhere although at higher compression I guess this would diminish the ultimate boost limit at the top.. where the headline power figure is made. Now what you really want is a variable compression ratio engine! that would be the best, especially if you combine with variable cam timing. compare the flexibility of a hawk's wing to the relatively fixed wing of a plane! smart variability should be the ultimate goal of every machine..

Given a fairly optimal tune on pump gas, what + does a tune for C16 give - as a percentage on base tune? assume twins or a single, doesn't really matter, any real world experiences? I know from a search that dirtgarage dyno'd at 400 something on pump @ 28psi and 460 something on race @ 34psi. So that would be roughly a 15% improvement. It wasn't clear whether that was two optimal maps or just gained from upping the boost, though.. I'd also love to know if that is 15% all through the rev range, or just at the top end.. Since power-fc is so common, with its single map, perhaps there aren't many documented examples? but maybe cars with Motecs, Vipecs know the answer..

Not too good a buy imo. The logical buyer is a car collector, as buying it and using it even for a short trip turns it into just another Nur .. Who has a car collection for just display in australia (or anywhere outside Japan) where this would be a logical fit? I doubt anyone.. That mint z-tune from a year or two ago - now, maybe.. PS: I got my car from zele. Great car although their photographer probably worked for playboy s/he is good at making their stock look better than perfect - whereas in the flesh there are stretch marks, wrinkles and age lines! (not the case with this example tho).

my second car was a cordia, bought it new after Wheels pictured it on the front cover with "15.9 seconds 0-400m!". At the time because I was a kid I thought it ruled, and it was faster than most other affordable production cars out there even the australian muscle. Unfortunately it had very poor brakes even considering it only weighed 1100kg (rear drums!), front wheel drive, flat seats, a rubbery and long throw gear change, no airbags and wasn't made to be crashed at any speed. You could reach an (indicated) 200kmh.. you didn't rev it much beyond 5800 because it started to sound very harsh. The best part about it was the pull it had in 2nd gear around 80kmh. But any model skyline would have been in another world of handling and performance.

used ~18,000 kms nismo timing belt (no visible teeth wear at all), 13028-RSR45, $50 ono (retail: over $200) - SOLD update: magnaflow cat for R34, is 2.5" dia in and out. I think that is only useful for STOCK exhaust and is not likely to be particularly high flow. so price drop to $50 Useful to keep in a cupboard to pass EPA if you have a decat pipe? (just thinking outloud).

Do You Gain Performance With Bosch Fuel Filter
rtune replied to A-B_DR/fT-KinG!!'s topic in Engines & Forced Induction
well it might if your existing filter is so blocked you are running low pressure to the fuel rail to the extent the existing injectors are falling down on the job .. but then your engine probably pinged itself to death already. -
I think there are some nice over-built cars out there held by people who are prepared to take a big haircut on the "market" price to be rid of them.. of course if you're gonna buy it then buy all these upgrades, this isn't a sensible decision. Suze Orman would say "denied" for sure (CNBC TV reference).

my advice completely unsolicited: don't buy anything now, whatever you are considering will be much MUCH cheaper in a year! and interest rates will be lower as well. Why lock in a 3 year fixed now that will be 2% or more cheaper in a year as a severe downturn takes hold. Over paying on your mortgage and over paying for your house will wipe your equity out instantly. de-leveraging has yet to fully hit australia but the rest of the world points the way, doesn't matter what the australian government does, there is massive asset deflation everywhere. What happened to second hand car prices, stocks and commodities will happen to house prices, land and treasuries. Just a matter of time. Watch "The Ascent of Money" (youtube.. if you don't have the patience start with episode 5). Then consider that what happened in Ireland, Iceland, the US, the UK, Spain (and is still happening) has yet to fully unfold here! The australian financial media still glowing from the bubble as recently as march 2008, is really behind the curve.

How are the nismo (n1) dumps? I know they are 60mm, and split, but little else. If you have them already, is it really worth going tomei for the extra 10mm? picture is here: http://www.greenline.jp/catalogue/engine/i...tletgtr-BIG.jpg

I'm spending a week near bicheno on the coast in feb and seriously thinking about driving down from sydney, getting the ferry and driving there. (and back). So i was wondering if there are any deserted drivers roads - of the kind top gear like to find in wales or scotland, or if it is going to be a 100kmh snoozefest in traffic the whole way.

I agree, for the price, it is a steal.. if he is upgrading, the r35 will feel slower.

It is possible that a Japanese owner of a v-spec blew their ceramics and put in steel. Everything I find says R34 v-spec I and IIs had ceramics as stock. Obviously many don't any longer. 8+ years is a long time. Eg: and, on the introduction of the Nur... and a comment from an owner however the N1 R32s after 02/92 had metal N1s.
