Agree with Bogan bloke above. I like running quality tyres on my street driven cars. Wife's daily as well as my daily have Michelin PS4, good tyre that does everything you'd expect without fuss and reasonably priced for popular sizes that aren't enormous.

Skyline had Yokohama on it for many years but have recently fitted zestino tyres. Just did a quick Google and they're actually Chinese made (jap designed apparently). Surprisingly they grip really well, wet and dry and haven't died, YET. Obviously on the higher end of CCP tyres but still China nonetheless.

Chinese parts can be good, it's all in the quality assurance, and materials, but, that costs more, but, typically not alot more, it is up to the customer who is getting the parts made, some are happy to pay more for quality good QA and materials because the savings are in the cheap labour costs, so they can sell a quality product at a lower price point, other customers who are getting parts made give no farks and want their products to be as cheap as possible for maximum profit, so minimal QA and average materials

Hence why some Chinese parts are crap, whilst other are good

Much like parts and other stuff made in different countries around the world, including "made in Australia", "made in Japan", "made in 'Merica" branded gear

  2. My view is to put the best tyres your budget allows for a daily, there is no run off or kitty litter on the street, only cars, bikes, gutters, trees, kids .......as for the track, it's not like street driving where you need to deal with all the thousands of Muppets that are cutting you off, slamming on their brakes for animals or pedestrians that wander into the road

Every mm the tyre brakes better could be the mm's required to not running over a kid who runs out in front of you, especially if it's wet, wet weather is where most cheap tyres fail horribly, either when hard braking, or quick evasive turning even at lower speeds

My Honda came with Tracmax, whilst they worked in the dry doing legal road speeds, in the wet they were rubbish

After some googling reviews I tried some Hankook Ventus Prime 4's, the difference in the dry is noticeable, but in the wet the difference is chalk and cheese, IIRC they were around $150 a tyre fitted, so for only $600 for 4 news tyres, that are lasting really well, I have tyres that actually work at legal road speeds in the wet

If they save me once from "an unfortunate situation" they have paid for themselves

Tyres are one of those things that can save your life when driving, and as most of your time driving is in your daily, your daily tyres are more important than a tyre on a performance car that knocks of a second or 2 on the track

My daughter is a copper, she regularly drags dead or injured people out of cars because they lose control, or run up the back of cars in the wet

TL;DR. Buy the best tyres that might help save your life if $hit goes down

You'll end up hating the BRZ... Again...

Didn't hate the 86, the non-existent rear seat space was a small issue, not my issue really though, but, as all the kids are grown, moved out, and have their own cars, the rear seats would be just extra luggage space

The Minister requires 2 suitcases and a "carry on or 2" for a weekend away, typically I take a spare pair of jocks and socks, and a toothbrush.....if there is any space left, LOL

In reality the 86 is the most missed car I have ever owned

The R33, well, there was hate in the end for that and I was happy to see it leave

In other, financial news, the broker said they probably wouldn't be able to get a BRZ tS any cheaper than if I just ordered one through Subaru as they have no issues selling the ones they have

The dealers want just over $55k for a new tS without any additional bits, and I would probably need to wait for the colour I want, but when ordering a BRZ tS online through Subaru, with the colour and other accessories I want, it is around $53k, albeit with around a 6 month wait, which I'm fine with, just gives me more time to think about the cat back and wheels I want for it

In other Toyota news, there is unconfirmed word that they may be releasing a new Toyota MR2 next year to replace the 86, hopefully real news and information will come out about it soonish, to either confirm or deny the talk

As stated, I'm in no rush and will wait and see what 2025 models are going to be coming out later this year

Another question, is that hose even big enough?

Not sure if that's a built motor, running big boost, but if so it's going to breathe heavily.

There's a reason you see many modern RBs with huge catch cans, returned back to the sump (heavy breathing and oil buildup in the head, etc.)

This was/is my main concern, IIRC, I had some of that clear reinforced on mine, from the breathers to a 1" to the can, but as the can was in the engine bay it was only a short run from the breather to the can

Maybe running 2 x 1" lines from the engine to the can, and 1 x 1.5" out, as a 1.5" cross sectional area of 1.5" is around twice that of 1"

From my understanding, which is heavily limited, if you restrict the breathing it can/will raise crank case pressure and blow seals and "stuff"

Maybe I'm wrong, but from remembering the amount of pressure coming out of the can in my sloppy old 25/30 build, large hoses were definitely needed to "keep the pressure down"

Has anyone ever seen a motorsport RB that had too little blowby

I'd be more worried about not knowing it if is breathing/overflowing oil but I guess that is a problem for the car behind, Dick Dastardly style

I still have bad memories of going into turn 1 at Wakefield in my old R33 boat, going sideways, then backwards, then loopety looping it

The culprit was a catch can that puked oil out "everywhere"

    Fun times......🙄

  6. Spit balling

Could you connect a boost gauge to the oil cap somehow, disconnect the can line and take a reading, then reconnect the line and take another reading to see the crankcase pressure difference?

Agree it will need to be done when the engine is used in anger for sustained runs

Disclaimer: I tend to over think things nowadays

  7. Is it possible to check what your crankcase pressure is?

I know with hydraulics that the longer the line, the more pressure you need to move the oil

Maybe due to the long single line, the crankcase pressure will rise because it is being bottle necked by the long line, maybe, maybe not, it may work great

My brain hurts now, time for a snooze

The blue and slate grey are nice.

The new 86/brz is so much better than old one. So what turbo kit you going??

I kinda like the red, it "sort of" reminds me of my old orange one I loved

As for a turbo, nah, I'll keep it stock, well....maybe just a cat back, and intake, and some wheels, and probably a tune......LOLOLOLOLOL

I'm going to chat to my broker and see what he can do for me

Good news is the Minister for War and Finances is onboard

  9. I'm actually a fan of a bright yellow R32

    http://www.rbmotoring.com/blog/nissan-skyline-r32-yellow-color-available-to-source

But then I like colours that aren't black, white, silver or grey for sporty/fun cars, those colours seem to blend into the background, I'm looking into a carpark right now with about 100 cars in it, and the only cars that stand out amongst the sheep are yellow, orange, red, blue and this weird yellowish greenish HQ ute

  10. Disclaimer: totally different car

My Honda's shifts were a "little" notchy at high RPM and the clutches engaged pretty high, no amount of bleeding fixed it, I thought it might have been the syncros, turns out the old girls clutch, pressure plate, fork and thrust bearing were worn, after replacing those OEM parts with new OEM parts the clutch engagement was much lower, was lighter, and shifted at high RPM like butter

I'm not saying this is your issue, but there are alot of moving parts that are considered consumable items hidden in there

  11. Bogan Cruise Ship is all washed and shiny, so I can drive down to Goulburn tomorrow to get covered in bugs, me and the daughter will then head into Canberra for some lunch and shopping

As for the Honda, it has had a clutch birthday at BYP (clutch, pressure plate, little bit of flywheel action, spigot bush, new fork, thrust bearing, and while they were in there a fresh rear main seal, and a new timing chain tensioner)

Noticeable difference rowing gears at 7750 rpm, cuts shifts like a hot knife through butter

Thought about throwing a Torsen LSD in the gear bag, but didn't, which is unlike me with my "while we're sort of in there" mentality

Did some chatting with BYP IRT how strong the Honda engines, boxes and clutches are, IIRC they said they run some race cars with the stock K25Z3 engines and 6 speed boxes, even some with a little bit of boost

I also asked how hard it would be to fit a little spooly boy that gives me another 100 hp and some dose for LOLS............. Not hard or that expensive really after chatting........🤪

Note to self: when having a quickish take off ensure that the traction control is off, as when it activates it cuts all power for what seems like about 3 seconds, I had the initial jump on a 8th gen Civic Type R until it decided to cut all of my powers when it single pegged, which gave Mark the instant sads

New, "budget for the LOLS", possibly incoming for some Honda boost stuff...... and a LSD 🤪
