  1. RusH, So far it looks like if I do all the work myself, it will be $100 for the polishing, and $44 for the gaskets only. That's the minmium cost. Similarly, Just Jap in Sydney charge you around that price for polished units on exchange only. TM Autosports also say that they can remove then refit for the R34 for $160 if we don't do DIY. Hope they turn out. Keep you posted. GT34TO (Jim)
  2. gotRICE, Many thanks. I'll post a few pics of the installation from start to finish, including the rocker cover polishing process. Regards GT34TO (Jim)
  3. SAU Members, I have a polished set of rocker covers, new gasket set, bolt torque instructions from the manual and an installation diagram. Do I need to know anything specific about the installation of the gasket, so that I don't screw it up first time? Do the metal surfaces need to be prepared, cleaned, etc? Does anything need to be applied to the metal surfaces or gasket? Many thanks for help in advance. Regards Jimbo
  4. SAU Members, Anyone out there know of a retailer that sells rocker covers for the RB25DET Neo? I'd like to try a polishing experiment without destroying the ones on the car. Many thanks. Jim

    My R34 GTT Coupe

The black R34 has been sold. HKS induction, HKS FMI and steel piping, Tein coilovers, custom induction box and Nissan shift solenoids. The new white Nismo R34 GTT is now in the garage.
  6. Many thanks RS4 and others. The car is sold, and the new one is pictured. Regards Jim
  7. Guys, Obtained a compression test on the car today. Results as follows, from cylinder 1 to 6 170 169 170 155 150 155 Does this sound like an issue? The motor is as smooth as silk. Does anyone know where I can get hold of a mechanic whos mobile, and can do a leak down test, which is the next step. Many thanks. Jim
  8. What about Just Jap for a set of R34 GTR second hand rims? Awesome! I still like those freekin Lenso rims that Dori found. LOL For mine, it'll be 17" x 8 front and 17" x 9 rear with some wide 235mm and 255mm Marangoni tyres respectively. (dreams of more money)
  9. Guys, After spending nearly a month researching different makes, models, tread patterns and reports, I stumbled onto a friend at X-Force mufflers who was telling me about a tyre that he had put onto his ute. Marangoni. http://www.marangonityre.co.uk/ http://www.marangoni.it/content.asp?L=3&IDMEN=776 I have just fitted a set of 225 x 45 ZR 17 Marangoni Mythos tyres to the standard Nissan R34 rims. I have run Bridgestone SO3's, RE 001's and Michelin Pilot Preceda before, but these are better. Wet or dry!. Marangoni are apparently an off-shoot of Pirelli. You are about to see them fitted as standard to factory Ferrari's and Lambo's. Get them while they are relatively unknown I guess. My tyre guy supplied and fitted for $ 225 each. Safe motoring. 10. Hey Dori, The R34 GTT has a standard 17"x 7.5 + 35 offset Nissan rim that is fitted with 225 x 45 ZR 17 tyres. The link to the Aaron Bohnen tyre selection guide is listed below. (if you have Microsoft Excel) If you type in the standard Nissan 17" profile mentioned, in the left hand column, you will be able to see the tyres which will match your car the best in various widths and diameters. It also gives you the information of speed differences due to the wheel diameter differences. http://www.superjamie.net/garage/tire.xls The tyre rating symbols for various makes are also as follows: Tire Speed Rating Symbols: S - 180km/h or 112mph T - 190km/h or 118mph U - 200km/h or 125mph H - 210km/h or 130mph V - 240km/h or 149mph W(ZR) - 270km/h or 168mph Y(ZR) - 300km/h or 186mph ZRAbove - 300km/h or 186mph Yep, the 225 x 50 tyre may cause a few issues in the scrubbing department, and you are also travelling faster than your speedo would indicate. ie........you would be travelling at 103.5 km/hour when you speedo is reading 100 km/hour. If you save a copy of the guide, it will let you look at all sorts of combinations. You may also like to check out the past issue of High Perfromance Imports which addressed the maximum diameter and widths that would fit under normal R32, R33 and R34 guards. Apparently, the R33 had the best factory widths for 18 x 8.5 and 18 x 9.5 fitments. Safe motoring. Regards TR34GT (Jim)
  11. Dori, I just went to their site and checked out the stock. You were right !!!!!!!!!! Those Project D rims are absolutely awesome. The price is also pretty bloody good. (if I had any money) Many thanks for the web site link. Regards Jim (TR34GT)
  12. Yo Shane, I thought that you would need a +35 just to clear your brakes mate. Every time I get my ass into a wheel place for some pricing...............it's.................oh no mate, those wheels won't fit, you need a +35 offset. The wheels on the white GTT are awesome. For me, I'd settle for a set of Drifteks any day. They're cheaper! LOL Hope all is well. http://www.otomoto.com.au/showroom.htm Jim (TR34GT)
  13. SAU Members, I may as well put my 2 cents worth in too. I apologize now in advance. Call Best Mufflers in NSW and they'll tell you one or the other (bellmouth or split) is the better dump pipe for turbo applications. Call Hi Tech Mufflers and they'll tell you something else. Call the manufacturers of the dump pipes and it gets more confusing. (not that they aren't very very helpfull) It seems that where performance gains are quoted, they're usually overstated. It seems that even with long time experience in this field, opinions vary. A technical understanding of exhaust gas flows from the turbo, in relation to computer modelling or the monitoring of actual results between various products and manufacturers would be a great thing, and maybe even settle a few arguments. (Maybe someone like Hi Performance Imports or Zoom magazines can run a tech article on this issue) Most of us understand the split gases non-turbulent separation and flow into a split system can aid turbo response, but there seem to be times when the differences in gains are insignificant. There is no doubt though, that theres better response and a few more kilowatts on offer by going with either a better aftermarket bellmouth (say X-Force) or split system (say BOS Importing). In my humble opinion, the Aussie manufacture is much better. I can attest to the gains on the last two R33's I've owned and modified, and now on the R34 GTT, that at least the BOS Importing unit is simply much better than the OEM bellmouth. Research what you want to purchase thoroughly. Compare the shape, angles, connection point of split pipe, design, flange arrangement, bolt hole position and various connections. You will find they are pretty much different. (I have no interest in promoting BOS Importing by the way) Hope this helps. Regards Jim (TR34GT-000 & TR34GT)
  14. Hey mate. Most of us driving the GTT Tiptronic have a problem with the AT light at one time or another. Consensus is that this can be induced (make it happen) by long downhill backing off, or fast cornering accelleration with slip. The back-pressure induces this condition to Solenoid B, when that solenoid has a lower than normal or failing resistance level. Next time it happens, take note of what gear the car is locked in. If it's locked in 3rd gear, it's the AT shift solenoids, specifically solenoid B. Attached are the diagnostic faults for the R34 tiptronic transmission from the workshop manual. Hope you manage to rectify this issue. Regards Jim (TR34GT-000) R34WorkshopManual_AT_Faults.pdf
