  1. Yeah call me a brand **** but I'm shying away from any locally made plenum... there's a certain brand I'd rather 'Trust' even if the price is slightly higher... T.
  2. I've been thinking about the above. Any other brands besides the above? Not that I don't like it - it does look hot but it seems strange there seems to be only one? Or am I missing a plenum by some other manufacturer? T.
  3. Both turbos have a limited lifespan to put it bluntly... Also both have ceramic exhaust wheels but the intake impellers differ as above? T.
  4. Hmmm... I run the standard AFM too and I ping as well! At high boost, heavy power usage. My z32 is imminent (thanks to Philip!) and I'm doing a fuel pump (either a 040 or 984 - doubtful whether a 044 is in the cards Sooo... I'll get back to you guys with just the z32 and Bosch. Injectors, reg. + plenum is some while off for me I afraid. Mark - you need to get with Northside sometime! T.
  5. Go to someone who knows PowerFC's. It's no use going to someone who sells the opposition. Heaps of people I've been to have slagged off the PowerFC for some ECU they sell. What's the point of getting it tuned with them? The PowerFC has no problems with almost any setup. Granted in high HP situations, a z32 AFM is better but there's no reason why you cannot get 250 RWKW from an r33 AFM and the usual bits. T.
  6. Someone said $895 fitted. I think it still has the same attachment points for your Nissan AFM and BOV. T.
  7. What I'm getting at is that the AVC-R is a fully intelligent boost controller with scramble, different boost per gear, multiple boost settings etc. etc. The manual goes on and on. Now what do you get with the FC + HC + boost header? None of the above. Just boost control. Of course you're all free to do what I do... FC + AVC-R + HC T.
  8. Oh yeah Denso do not sell petrol injectors here. T.
  9. RX7 injectors? Side feed? No rail? You can get SIX for $350??? Where from? T.
  10. Compare the features of the PFC HC boost header and the full AVC-R. Now compare price of PFC + HC + header with PFC + AVC-R. Should be reasonably clear. T.
  11. The PowerFC is quite an economical solution really... Now a z32 afm is not that much, you can match it up to ANY boost controller (strongly recommend you do not get the FC boost header). The HC is useful for your tuner. To me it wasn't worth going for a half assed solution. I hate paying for labour. T.
  12. Think about this - does your engine run the same in every environment? Run a bad load of fuel - the engine will run bad = higher knock number. Run it on a cold morning and the motor rattles due to the cold = higher knock number. If I warm the car up, kill the motor, reset the knock - the rating is like 1-5 which is almost unbelieveable. T.
  13. There are lots of 32/33 GT-R owners we all know, should be reasonably clear what the maintenance costs are. 1,000,000 yen is a bit high I must admit for an '89 - way back when compliance was 'only' ~$2,500 r32 GT-R 92/93 models were going for under that. They didn't have r34 motors in them though. T.
  14. Ours was less strict than yours. We didn't do emissions or noise. We are strict amount minor stuff like flat mirrors, seat belts, dash illumination, intrusion bars, fluid changes. Most mods they did not care about and I can tell you that the stuff you can't readily check for was generally not done. But like any business, there are way around inspections... with the right people and the right amount of money. After May however... I don't want to think about it. T.
  15. I cut thru Olympic Village (usually Holker and Birnie Ave.) to avoid Parramatta Rd. My car does not ride on that stretch of Parramatta Rd. well at all. I'm guaranteed to see a police car in Olympic Village. Not running mind you but rather pulling over some poor bastard. And they don't care who they pull over... I've seen a VL Walkinshaw Commodore with a 'ful s1k bro', a clapped out Corona wagon with a woman, an old guy in a diesel 'Cruiser, sales rep. in a VX Commodore. You name it, pulled over for some traffic citation. And that's just this week! Cops know it's easy pickings for people over the 60 limit, esp. now with so many people going to Newington. T.
  16. In that case I might call up Denso in Australia and see how they stitch me up... T.
  17. You're kidding yourself if you think there are lots of tuners who have the Apex'i software. Datalogit? Maybe... but not the full on Apex'i licensed software. I'm not willing to do a full on dyno tune until I'm COMPLETELY finished with all engine mods. And at this junture I need close onto $3,000 to finish everything off, so hopefully not too far now T.
  18. The knock readout (if it is the same as the PowerFC reading) is a synthetic indicator of engine 'health'. A bad engine is 60+ Mine came to 11-12 avg. A new engine is supposed to be 20. A well run in good running engine is 10. 30 - 40 might be a more well worn motor. As it gets higher, the 'worse' condition the engine is (ie. the more likely you need a rebuild or the more it 'pings' metaphorically speaking). Funny thing is that an engine that has forged internals will put out worser numbers. This is a reading that the ECU (in its limited intelligence) gives. It is not 100% reliable. T.
  19. Can someone fill it in for me??? T.
  20. I would agree with Adam... it would take an exceptional car to make me import privately again. Too much b/s, paperwork, sleepless nights, running around. But then again, I'd after a pretty stock 96/97 r33 GT-R V-Spec or series 2 r34 GT-t sedan... maybe but doubtful. I know I got lucky this time, so did Frank it seems but next time... T.
  21. If you want a Type-R - BUY THE BEST! dc2-98 is the best Honda possibly ever made. I've driven a standard one and it really is better than any FWD car I've ever driven (better than some RWD cars too). The current one is not as good. With 141kW it will keep up with all but the most sorted out, worked GTS-t Skylines out there. It's not good for quarters though. T.
  22. There are lots of recommendations for tuning and other work - but let's just say I'd never go to any place that change their pricing (much) from their original quote... esp. not $140 -> $375. Put it this way, I paid $1,000 (for example) to change a turbo and things went up shit creek but it still ended up costing me $1,000 even though I wasted a lot of peoples' time and patience. T.
  23. The way I see if you either polish or paint... Ben did it. Anyone interested? T.
  24. Hey so what engine is in a Skyline? T.
  25. Skylines aren't exactly all that easy either. $150-250 in labour says it all... and don't get me started on Skyline clutches :-( T.
