  3. interesting link merli. i guess we will just have to agree to disagree on our definitions of rice. i understand your definition, but i just don't agree with it. to help you understand my perception of rice, I thought maybe I should provide some examples of what i consider rice, and what's nice..... rice: http://www.truckxpressions.com/accessoryga...pinning_rim.htm nice: http://www.gruppe-s.com/Advan/advanwheels.htm I don't agree with ... "As long as you have any asthetic modifications to make your car LOOK nice/different/unique, your car is deemed: ricey"... to me, performance is what counts, not the look. but as some point, i just think, "gone too far - that's rice".... it's quite funny / ironic really, so many ppl are trying so hard to make their car different / unique - they are no longer original - they are copying what others what other ppl do... lol
  4. finally someone recognises what I'm saying here..... i don't think the entire car is rice, but that some of the mods are rice. i had a feeling the doors were made of carbon fibre (thus weight is reduced, power to weight ratio increased = performance increased. i'm also aware of carbon fibre heat reduction properties, but I haven't mentioned that here as I can't see the benefit of that property in doors) but carbon fibre doors could have been installed utilising the standard door operation. they did not HAVE to change to scissor doors. If anything, the pneumatics required for scissor doors would have increased weight and thus advantage of carbon fibre becomes null and void. what would the cost be to change to scissor doors? could that money not have been BETTER spent elsewhere? (e.g. better set of tyres, more tuning, weight reduction, upgraded turbo etc)
  5. woah merli - relax.... sorry about pic not loading - first time I've posted pics in a reply. should be fixed now. I'm not going to argue effectiveness of wings. It's a pointless arguement. Focus on scissor doors.... hmmmm.....
  6. Anyone care to shed light on how this adds performance?
  7. franks: I didn't conveniently misquote you on anything... "100% of performance cars"? What other cars should be displayed at an autosalon? Can I enrol my parents standard magna executive at the next one? lol Merli: based on what franks is suggesting (that there may be other cars at autosalon other than performance cars) I feel that your last comment "The term "ricer" therefore cannot be applied to ANY of the cars there" becomes null and void. As such, I still think "...many of them SHOULD probably be labelled rice cars". Note: I wasn't suggesting japs COPIED aussies - just that they do the same thing as aussies - kind of disappointing really. red900ss: "So this wing is functional????" ... thanks - I haven't had a laugh like that in ages - well at least since I read the "calls of the day from ando" thread anyways! hehehe http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...light=r33deviat
  8. ooooo - think i may have hit a nerve! I was mostly joking guys. didn't you notice the or the hehehe? "...each of the components were put onto the car for the SOLE PURPOSE of increasing performance..." maybe i'm just ignorant franky, but i fail to see the performance gain by adding red neon's under the 350???? not to mention the CHROME on a set of 20" deep dish rims. let's take it further... maybe the stickers aren't just advertising... maybe ... they add .... kws??!!! have you seen the hubcaps that rotate freely from the rims? they seem to be appearing mainly on excel's lately. That's the sort of dumb shit that really gets up my nose... the point i was making was that based on those pics, the japs are just as bad as the aussies: they've fallen into the trap of modding the LOOK of the car to make it look different rather than modding it to make it look good - I was not suggesting that those cars don't have some serious performance parts under the hood. appreciate the point you made about hks drag and blitz drift though. fair call.
  9. AWESOME pics blitz Noticed you've made heaps of comments about "nice cars" ... think many of them should probably be labelled "rice cars" I guess I should probably be show more respect - I think the object of pretty much every pic would spank me ... including the women!!!! hehehe Those G-Ready turbos look awfully tempting...
  10. I had a sky blue 1978 280SEL Mercedes a while back. On a trip to schoolies week the air con started to leak and made a lake on the floor of the back seat. After that it was known as "the blue lagoon". Also got the handle "beirut bus" as it's the style of Merc you see in all the beirut military movies like Delta Force. My s14 used to be called Syl (how original!) Now I've got a MY00 wrx. Any ideas what it's nick is? Rex or Rexy (once again - how original!) Occasionaly gets "it" (my plates are my business' name "I.T. twentyfour 7" = IT247) I've found that all my cars have also responded to "baby", "piece of $hit!!!!" and "biatch" too. Oh yeah, almost forgot, also had a 97 magna a while back (well was really my parents, but who's going to complain about a free ride?). Got named boomer as I had a habit of cleaning up possums in my neighbourhood with the bumper
  11. My '99 model s14 is now definately for sale - (sorry no swaps). Check out http://members.optushome.com.au/hulmer for pics, specs and contact info .... Price is $26,500. Drop me an email if you are interested - [email protected] Rich
  12. Boostzor - take a look at the photo buddy, I drive a 200sx not a 'line - but I appreciate your point. Some good points made so far on this forum. A comment was made by one of the chicks on the forum "I bat my eyelids and they leave me alone" just goes to show the discrimination by the police force. Why should girls bat and eyelid, show some tits etc and get away from an infringement? Where guys have to "cop it sweet". Somehow I don't think that batting my eyelids, of showing some leg would get me off a fine lol I recognise that the majority of mod car drivers are male, but that's not to say that there aren't heap of chicks too... A friend of mine (typical blond californian babe) got pulled over speeding (not an import), flirted a bit, and one of the coppers let her off after she gave him her phone number. The no of times I've heard stories like this just defies me. I guess, it just sh*ts me that different rules apply. if a cop is going to pin a male for something, then he should pin a girl just the same. Anyways, life isn't fair, so not going to rant on anymore about it. Got to say, since I have calmed down my driving style (due to dodgy clutch) I have been left alone. I don't want to get it fixed now cause once I replace it harrassment might start again
  13. got followed home by the hp last night. driving home from work, sitting on prob 10 over the limit on a highway (just keeping up with the flow of traffic - 90 zone btw). I see a hp go past (other side of the road). i hit a 60 zone (where there is usually a hp every month or so) so i drop to the speed limit. HP that i had passed, has pulled a u-turn and is now on my arse. Follows me the rest of the way home in peak hour traffic - ensuring that no one got between her and me - it was 1 chick in a hp car. the entire trip i kept under the speed limit - and i take a fairly windy way home - there is no other reason for her to be going the same way as me unless she is following me - about 30 min driving. she then takes the same turn off as me and follows me into my street (backstreet in the middle of surburbia). All i could think was, she didn't get me for speeding, but now she's going to defect me for something. then she kept going. maybe she just wanted to give me her phone no, or wanted to know where i lived??? - drop me a valentine's day card or something - lol
  14. .... and where did little johnny howard come from? Sydney nth shore TNS rules supreme!!!!!! (sorry, but pretty much every thread I've read lately has become tns vs tws. thought i had to get in while the opportunity was there - lol)
  15. but that's good isn't it? US sells weapons to other countries other countries sell to terrorists US bombs the F#ck out of other countries, kills all the terrorists Drops prices of oil = cheaper petrol down under cause little johnny howard backed bush up.
  16. as far as i'm concerned, what makes a good cop is when they have respect for other members of community and that includes me when they pull me over for doing something wrong coppers are just ppl - no better or worse than u or me. sometimes u get pricks, sometimes u get good blokes. if more cops weren't pricks and didn't think they were better than everyone else, the less shit they'd cop from the community. 1 of my mates is a cop and pushing to get into HP (don't know y). But he is 1 of the fairest guys i know. they r the type of ppl u want doing that job. pin when u have to, but he's fair about it. and yeah, if he pulls me over doing 10 over, he'll probably let me off with a warning. but if he gets me for 20+ he'll pin me. his view - i don't drive that fast when i'm not on duty, so y should u?
  17. boostzor - perhaps we should catch up for a beer sometime, and have a proper conversation about my respect for ppl. I am respectful when it is deserved. just like u said, i will be one of the only ppl to give my seat on a train for an elder. I respect my woman, my parents, my friends etc. I will respect coppers provided they are not pricks. And I give them every opportunity to be other than pricks b4 I make up my mind. e.g. different instance I got done for redlining a magna (sorry fagna) through a stop sign. HP on bike pinning ppl for just that. i got done. didn't dispute it. but he was reasonable about it. we ended up having a brief chat, laugh, and eventually he warned me that there was going to be coppers pinning for just that stop sign for the next couple of weeks. and there were. i am not a prick nor arrogant when i get out of the car. but if a copper is being a prick, he loses my respect pretty quickly, and the no of times it's happened is y i'm posting on this thread.
  18. boostzor - perhaps you should talk to the copper that pulled me over and insisted I was a "Street Racer" - perhaps he shouldn't be watching fast and the furious over and over - lol I don't stand tall and crap on about my rights. Nor am I a smart arse to cops. I get out of the car and meet the cop halfway between our cars. At 6'4 I do stand tall, but I'm not puffing up, and I wait for the cop to initialise the conversation. Here is a segment of the convo last time i got pulled over: Cop: so you've got a history of street racing Me: I'm sorry, how did you come to that? Cop: Friday night, peats ridge, don't you remember being there? (extremely sarcasticly) Me: Oh, I remember being there, but I wasn't street racing ... In fact none of the guys I was with were (was a 'line cruise btw) Cop: That's not what 1 of ur mates told us Me: I'm sorry? Cop: 1 of ur mates gave us ur name, rego and told us u were street racing Me: (i frown) I don't see how that's possible Cop: and y's that? Me: because none of the guys i was with that night knew my name Cop: well obviously the copper had a word to you. Me: no sir, an unmarked car did arrive, i can only assume he took my rego, but no police officer talked to me that night. I'm not an idiot boostzor (much to many ppl's amazement). I am upfront and honest with police, but i am not below them, i don't believe that I should respect them for a badge. That particular copper was a complete prick, trying to get me to provide a 'line driver's (a mate's) details. kept me there 45 min on the side of a fwy, and i think he was just stalling me waiting for backup so he could search my car. now i was going easy 160 in a 80 zone, and admitted outright that what i did was reckless, and that's y i was back on the speed limit well b4 he pulled in behind me (mind u he followed me for at least 2km before pulling me over). after it all, he ended up getting me with 15+ (i don't believe he clocked me at all, but had to get me with something, and considering the shit I could have been in, I didn't dispute it).
  19. Merli - perhaps you miss read my post, I didn't ever say I was better than the cop, only that they are not better than me.... "No better, no worse". However, just cause he has a badge doesn't mean that he is better, and my view is, if we play along with their thinking that it is, life for us "street racers" will only get worse. I DO treat coppers with respect. Anyone that has to clean up the mess when some dickhead 17 yr old on their p's decides strap a silvia into a pole, deserves respect. It would have to be a f#cker of a job, and despite the pay, I still doubt I would do it. But respect comes in many forms other than getting on your knees and taking one for the team! I am not bending over for a copper cause he or she has a badge. I am polite, and illustrate to them that I understand my rights., and ensure that they know that I will not be walked on.
  20. will have to give it some consideration. budget pretty tight atm. will let u know by the 19th.
  21. white anglo saxan. I'm an aussie ... if i put on a flanny and some ugg boots, you'd think i was a bogan. if u say me, u'd probably think i'd be more suited to a v8 commodore i think about 3 generations ago rellies came from england. but u trace it back far enough i'm a bit of a hybrid really - english, scottish, welsh, german.
  22. Of course you should get out of your car!!!! A cop (because of their position) is already in a position of authority. Which means that they have something over you. When a cop pulls you over, and u don't get out, they r talking down to you, putting them in an even higher position of authority. The BEST thing you can do is get out of the car. It automatically puts you both on equal footing. You definately don't let your passenger out - they might start shooting at you. but you have to get out of the car i don't know about you guys, but a copper is not better than me. we are both ppl. No better, no worse. and by driving on a public rd does not mean that i'm in his territory. he is just supervising us. doesn't matter what job u do, supervisors can b wrong. you prove to the cop that you are aware of your rights, that you will not be pushed over, but have as much respect for him as you would anyone else, and chances are you will come out alright. when i get done, provided the cop is not a prick about it, i won't dispute it. but when they think they are better, and can pin me for whatever they want, then i will get my back up. all in all, my view hasn't changed, some cops are pricks, most r ok. but in general, it's the laws that are ****ed, not the enforcers. know ur rules, u won't get tramped on.
