  1. Just posting this up as something to read: Engine Running In Guide
  2. I really feel sorry for you mate, GunMetalR33 was refering to me in his posts.... I have a candy red datsun ute that was tboned (not huge damage, and no chassis straightening required)....... it took 10 months for him to fix it. For the first 2-3 months, every time I called and went past - "ah maite, you see, I had to order the genuine parts from OS, and it takes 2 weeks for them to get here" Every time same story whether I dropped past or called. He then f**ked around getting the work started - "ah maaaiiitte, you see, all my workers, they quit today" (little wonder, your a bloody wanker). So apparantely all of his workers quit, but never actually left because they were all there for the next 6 months (probably because he is such a great manager and pays them really well) Then finally when I get the car back.... "ah maiiiitee.... the blinkers were broken right".... aahhh how does no grab you - i took the car anyway cause I wanted it the hell away from him and that poxy workshop. And the paint job was crap - it is orange peeled in places. f**k them - the place is called XXXXXXXXXXX - do not go there!!!! Sorry if anyone is friends with this bloke but he stuffed me around big time and I would never ever recommend anyone goes there - and I made sure I told the insurance company everything that went on. Anyway. enough anger venting - Good luck getting your car outta there (and if you cant, get back in there asap and make sure that you have turned the boost down or dropped the rev limiter)
  3. Just found out some extra info (I have read this a couple times before) All Nissan Crank Angle Sensors need to be re positioned. Nissan Sensors are normally set to 60 deg BTDC. The ecu requires the trigger sensor to be positioned approx. 5 - 15 Deg. BTDC. If the engine is fitted with a Distributor the Rotor button(if driven via a gear) or optical sensor or disk needs to be repositioned (if no gear drive) . So i need to remove the locator on the cam gear so I can reposition it from the 60 it is now to 5-15 BTDC
  4. So I checked the cam gear - and the half moon is definately still there... I compared this to the old engine that I took out, and the alignment of the half moon in comparision with the white mark on the cam gear is exactly the same - however, the half moon on the old engine is missing... So could someone have deliberately broken this off so they could adjust the timing or is it likely that the CAS is stuffed (but I have two, one from the old engine which was running and the new engine, both yield same result).........
  5. Thanks guys! Ill have a look - from what I saw last night I was pretty sure that the half moon was still on the CAS and the cam gear.... however, should the half moon in the CAS come all the way to the very edge - or is it sunken inside about halfway down the shaft? And ill see if I can rotate the sucker and put it back in! thanks!!! Cheers, Scott
  6. What U clip thing is that?? I am locking the static timing in the computer (which is what the manual and site admins claim you need to do to check the timing).
  7. Hi all, I have a datsun 1200 ute running (used to anyway) with a CA18DET and a Stinger 4424 EMS (I am using the stock CAS and have tried both the new and old one, and I am using a map sensor). I swapped my old CA for a fresh version recently and now I cannot get it started. To date i have: had the injectors cleaned changed the fuel pressure regulator for one that I know works checked fuel pressure changed the wiring to all ignitors to make sure they fire with a strong spark changed the spark plugs (NGK iridiums) checked to make sure all injectors fire, as well as all spark plugs checked base timing Everything in the list is ok except for the base timing. The timing should be 15+- 5 degrees BTDC.... to check this with a stinger EMS, you set the base timing value to locked, and then (i am using an inductive timing light), then check the timing. As per Timing.jpg () , the reference point when looking at at the front of the engine is on the top right, however the light is flashing and marking the timing to the left. As per the s13 engine manual (): I then, turned the engine over until the cylinder head is right at the top of the compression stroke. The timing marks on the pulley then lined up correctly with the timing reference point.... I removed the cam cover and as per the above diagram, the two white marks on the cam gears were in the correct position, and the number of teeth between the marks was correct. See They only thing I didnt do last night was remove the pulley and bottom timing cover to check the position of the crank and the marking there...... My question is, what could be causing the timing to be so far out....
  8. Hi all, I was interested in finding out the answer to the following. The return pipe that goes from the BOV to the air intake pipe when using a plumb back BOV....... Can this pipe be a rubber hose or does it need to be some form of metal tubing? Is there any advantage or point to using metal instead of rubber? Thanks.

  10. Check out www.nissansilvia.com, someone is selling one there.
  11. Send a pm to GunMetalR33 and get his opinion about a bloke in Qnbyn. Did a great job with his R33!
  12. Hi All, I have a 1979 Datsun 1200 ute with the following mods. s13 CA18DET s13 5 speed gbox FMIC (fairly big, not sure of exact dimensions) Turbosmart Veeport BOV Stinger 4424 EMS Garrett GT28 Oil Catch Can TurboXS boost controller. The GT28 is great, but it lags like a bastard! Would going down to a GT25 affect performance other than coming on boost earlier? especially considering the fairly large intercooler? Thanks.
  13. Does the plug on the end of the left over cord match anything that you can see in the engine bay? Did the kit come with any adpaters, ie: adpaters for the plug ends?
  14. hahaha, So where do think we should do it then, I say out near the old Fraser Park Raceway (Tralee) ! I'll go borrow a tractor and you supply the tar, and I'm sure GunMetalR33 will have no problems with supplying a couple beers! Anyone else keen! lol......
  15. It'd be really nice, but I wonder how good an $8million dollar 1/4 mile would be, (not being scarcastic) because I remember hearing that WSID cost the govt close to $30 million. WSID is a world class facility though..... so a not so awesome venue in Canberra may scrape in a little cheaper..... any thoughts.... even better.... anyone out there built a dragway before?
  16. Without a doubt - a couple bevvies and a bite to eat. mmmmmmm.
  17. Do you have a wine red skyline, I remember having a run with someone near oxley, but I think there was only one person in the car? I can't remember..........
  18. Hey all, I haven't got a skyline, but my little dato ute is powered by a Nissan CA18DET. It is candy apple red and has a Plazmaman FMIC, Garrett GT28 turbo, BOV, FR17" Simmons, Stinger 4424 EMS, borg warner 3.9 diff. I've been poking around this site for quite a while now and there seems to be some pretty good info. See you all around!
  19. Me too, IT Consultant. ________________ CA18DET 1200 Ute Candy Apple Red
  20. Does anyone know of anyplaces that sell decent CA18DET's with wiring looms? Decent being: good compression. Thanks!
  21. Yeah, yeah your both very funny, I've been copping the same replies everywhere else this is posted. Who ever wants to look at it or whatever will be dealing with her. The car has rego in her name, receipts in her name, insurance in her name, dyno charts in her name, All of this type of stuff from the past 2 years in her name. I drive a datsun ute and would never buy, own or drive a rice burner. But anyway, believe what you want to.
