  1. Well - the car didnt get going on Aussie Day.... we had a few hiccups. Firstly, we got everything swapped over and back together. Put the engine into the car, filled the radiator and had water going everywhere. As murphy's law dictates, it was located right at the back of the engine, under the plenum. One tiny little hole, that didnt show up on the visual check - soooo, the engine came out again (well, up at least, didnt need to pull it from the engine bay). Changed the hose, put everything back on and back in went the engine. On the way back in, the bell housing pinched a power steering line - but at least it was in a fixable spot. The bigger problem was that it wouldnt start. Would not kick over at all. Hubby tried to turn the crank with a breaker bar, but couldnt budge it one millameter. So - after trying all the tricks that he knew, he decided he had enough and it was time to send it to someone with a hoist - a tow truck was called, and off she went to KYP to be fixed. 4 days work and we watched her being taken away on the back of a truck LOL The problem was that the torque converter was not quite mated with the box. Out by almost nothing, but enough that the bolt from the fly wheel was pushing against the flex plate. Hence why it wouldnt kick over. Ben sorted her out, fitted a 2-way Nismo centre in there, and also put in the hicas lock. I drove her home on Friday - BUT (and there is always a but) - she is missing. Checked her all out and it is the coil pack harness (we think). So now we are looking for a new coil pack harness to see if that is the problem. Its all very frustrating, but it is the nature of cars - especially when you buy a car that does not run - always seems to be little things that need attention. She will be a beauty when she is finished - but until then the Elantra is the drive car. LOL
  2. Hi All Thanks for this thread. I was having all sorts of problems finding an insurance company who would insure my new R32 until I did the search and found this thread. Both our cars (the Prado and the Elantra as well as the camper trailer) are insured with our credit union - but they wouldnt touch the R32. I rang Just Car and they wanted 1200 p/year - crazy money given that I am nearly 34 and have an A1 record. I rang famous who wouldnt give me a quote over the phone, I rang premium and a whole heap more and it was all looking bad. Then I rang Shannons - what a difference! over 600 cheaper than anywhere else - only 400 as an excess - AND, they will reduce all that further if I insure the other cars and/or my house and contents with them. Monthly cost is only 57 p/month. Really helpful guy on the other end of the car - all mods are insured separately, my choice of repairer etc etc. Really really good. The only downside is that they will only insure you with a good driving and personal record apparently (so going to have to be careful the keep it that way )
  3. Yeah I am agreeing with you.... Ive been doing some research and Im not seeing alot that have come up perfectly without a lot of fiddling and modifying. I am going for the GTR front bar. I want to also get a nice rear bar and skirts to replace the pods and the crappy side skirts that are on there. Havent seen anything I really like as yet - Veilside have a nice rear, havent found skirts that I want as yet and am still looking for a good quality GTR bar also
  4. Well - my husband bought a very straight auto R32 (engine stuffed, so it was cheap). It was going to be a hobby project for my husband ('cause he was bored) , however I very cheekily told him he could build it for me - and much to my amazement he agreed! So... I finally get a skyline of my own. It is was pretty much stock with a couple of the basics Exhaust, FMIC and some 17s So what has been done so far - * Buy the car * Buy the goodies from Ben and other places.... (mostly Ben) * Buy more goodies.... * RB20 arrives from Ben * Do timing belt and idler/tensioner on new engine * Rip out the engine. * Pull bits off old engine * Put the new engine together * Stock shockies come out (me with some assistance - couldnt get the bloody rear ones off!) * Stock castor rods out (both completely stuffed) JIC caster rods gone in * Front and rear Cusco coilies gone in (me with some assistance ) dump car * JIC steering spacer in (again me with some assistance) * Rear GTR sway bar goes in (me ) * New Cusco rear strut brace * GTR fuel pump gone in The above has occurred over a 3 day period - including alot of running around for bits and pieces (gaskets, idler, etc). Engine goes back in tomorrow, a hicas lock on Wednesday (waiting for a bypass kit from Just Jap) Still to come - by Friday it will have * 2 way dif (bought one second hand, but it is 4.1 ratio, so having the centre swapped - hubby CBF so it will be off to hyperdrive * Carbing oil catch can Still to come afer that - * Adjustable rear camber arms (maybe, depending on how the wheel alignment goes) may have to pump the rear guards a little too * EBC, fuel pressure reg a new turbo and a nistune * GTR front bar and a Re-spray (the paintwork is OK - but not perfect. Im thinking white with a blue pearl.... ) * Re-trimming the interior * Manual conversion (I want to, but hubby is scared I'll kill myself by losing it on the roads. LOL ) So that is the project.... its not a huge one and Im sure that most of you have seen, done and been there before. But this is my project and im excited... I should be able to start her up by tomorrow (Aussie Day ) Hubby (super-duper-wonderful mechanic) is doing all this in the home garage, without a work bench or hoist - so it has been a little difficult. BUT - being the fantastico that he is he has plodded on and its going to be a beautiful streeter.... Its not being built for the track (although I might put it on there for a bit of fun) we have been there and done that, its just a cruiser - but it will still bring a smile to my face that only a beautiful car can..... I have been looking at bodykits for the new R32 and came across a website called Phat Kits I would like to do a R32/4 conversion, and have been looking at the BeeR kits but didnt like the price so much. I then stumbled across Phat Kits. http://www.phatkits.com.au/Product.aspx?pid=9 Does anyone know anything about them? How they fit up? Etc.... ?? If you do, I would love to hear from you. I know you get what you pay for, but I have my rose tinted glasses on and am hoping that they might be all right....

Hi All My name is Leisha - Im not new to the performance scene, having had a beautifully modified R33 and a sileighty in my garage at various points over the past 11 years, but this is MY first performance vehicle.... Currently getting an engine swap, and some very nice extras courtesy of my talented and wonderful mechanic, hopefully it will be on the road by the end of next week (Im cancelling the family holiday in order to get it on the road ) So - thats me, look forward to meeting you in the forums where I will be asking lots of questions (love these emoticons )
