  1. thanks heaps for the informative post. I guess i'll be sticking with the HPS instead of the XPR, i dont know why, i just don't have the heart to put a non royal purple oil in my car anymore haha
  2. Hey guys, I did a bit of searching around but couldn't find specific answers for this; What would be a more suitable oil in a stockish R34 GTT - Royal Purple HPS or their new XPR oil? It seems the XPR is a on up from the HPS, specifically for performance racing, does that mean it would not be suitable for a daily jap turbo? This is what their website has to say; (useless) http://www.royalpurpleconsumer.com/right-synthetic-oil/ Thanks
  3. The photos of the hole are very blurry so im not too sure. If that hole is on the dump pipe, it's usually for an oxygen sensor to be screwed into.
  4. The squeeling problem is most likely a loose or off center belt. You could turn it on and look at the engine bay and try and follow the sound to see which belt the sound is coming from, replacing/tightening the belt's price will depend on which belt it is really. I'm sure someone else would be better suited to explain the lights on the dashboard problem, I would be leaning towards a fuse/short somewhere though.
  5. Yeah, the defect is bound to happen I guess. my question again though, the possibility of the infamous "$10,000" fine for running a decat car can only technically be had if they can prove it is decat. the only way for this is if they nab you there and then on the road by suprise, and try and test the emissions in a carpark (as they do sometimes) this car park has random RTA n EPA officers sitting around n they pretty much test it there n then. So in considering that, would a kill switch be a viable option to not have that happen? or will they seize the car or something i dunno lol
  6. yeah fair enough, been defected before when the car wasn't even too low. the real question here though is, i've heard at times, they make you drive to a carpark or something straight away and there are EPA testing stations, testing your exhaust for toxic gases. hypothetically, a car not starting would cause for it to not be tested?
  7. So not that any of this applies to me; but to avoid these two problems: - Cop defect for exhaust too loud - EPA road side defect/cop defect for de-cat exhaust system Could one not instal a hidden kill switch in their car, and hit the switch, pretending the car doesn't turn on for whatever reason, therefore not allowing the EPA/Cop to check the loudness or more importantly, if it is venting toxic fumes due to decat. At least temporarily, and then tow the car home n change it back to stock? This example referrs to if you're driving and pulled over "randomly" and then directed to an EPA station from there directly. Or more likely, the cop with a decible meter. I wouldn't recomend this idea, just wondering if this is a possibility.
  8. With the recent japanese free trade agreement going through, I can't seem to wrap my head around the concept still so I was looking for a bit of clarification. With this free trade, will the prices of use jap imports drop, e.g R33s, R34s, etc. Along with this, I don't understand how in New Zealand, the prices for these cars is almost half as much as it is here. I always assumed it was due to the agreements and that this new free trade agreement would balance out the prices eventually evening them out with New Zealand. Thoughts? Thanks in advance
  9. thanks heaps for that. does anyone know any examples of what sorts of things you can see with the cable, e.g - compression tests? etc and is it worth getting a cheap like $15 one?
  10. can't seem to find the edit button, but along with those questions I have another; Why are the prices ranging for the consult system, from like $15 - $400 on ebay? isn't it just a cable you connect, would have thought it would be a cheap thing to get?
  11. wow reading through this thread, never felt so bad for someone on this forum. hope it works out this time. so scared to drive my car anymore lol
  12. Hey guys, I've got a R34 GT-T. I've had it for a while and have heard about the "consult" cable. I have a stock ECU, I was wondering a few things about the whole cable: - What are the main things I can do with the cable and my car? (I have a reasonable amount of computer knowledge) - Is it hard to use the cable? - Is it worth buying? Thanks heaps guys
  13. haha yeah, im one of those guys that will stop indicating until the last second, or make unecessary turns if theres a car thats been following me for too long. thanks again everyone, good to see that the RTA has failed us all collectivly, once again
  14. wow thats a relief. i got pretty paranoid last night, ran outside at 3am and tried investigating if the car used to be a 4 door or something and got rebirthed. late night does crazy things to the mind lol thanks again guys, i shall sleep easy tonight.
  15. hey guys, i've got a r34-gtt and have had it for quite a while, i bought it fairly cheap and now im a bit paranoid beacuse i looked at the PPSR check and the free rego check of my car, and while the number plate and all is correct, it says body type = SEDAN when infact, my car is a 2 door coupe? Can anyone provide some insight or thought into this? Is this hard to fix? What could the reasons for this be? or how will this effect me? Thanks heaps guys.
