  5. Definitely not noisy tyres or low on oil as I just had a major service done on it using the best oils. I will get a 5th mechanic to have a look at the problem soon and I'll tell him what you have said to see what he thinks. Hopefully I can sort this out without forking big money out. Thanks for the insight. If I ever get this fixed ill post up what is wrong with it.
  6. Hi everyone, I was wandering if anybody could give me some insight as to a very strange droning noise that is very LOUD heard in cabin. The drone sounds very bad and it only happens in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears under load (does not happen in 1st or 5th gear). To add, it only happens from 2000rpm-2300rpm (very narrow rev range). The more I push the gas pedal under load, the more louder the sound is. Some background information: I recently purchased an R34 GTT to find out that it had a stagea RB25DET NEO engine in it (same engine, different sump, different mounts etc). The car has an R33 turbo internals in an R34 turbo gearbox. The clutch according to a mechanic at Chaser's Eastside, is a heavy duty either single or twin plated exedy / 5zigen clutch. Also, the clutch makes a metal on metal sound when depressed but I was told it is normal for heavy duty clutches to make those noises because of the lack of dampers in their design compared to the stock clutch. Now the clutch itself bites hard and is not slipping. It revs smoothly and nicely at higher RPMs, but at lower RPMs its a clunky and not very smooth. I've taken it to 4 different mechanics with varying experience and no one seems to have any idea what the issue is. They all seem to point me towards a drivetrain issue. I'm thinking it's probably the clutch but I need some ideas as to what and why this noise is happening. It's EXTREMELY ANNOYING! I've ruled out it being an exhaust issue, so could it possibly be that the rubbers on the engine mounts are worn out giving the clunk noise? OR possibly the fact that the engine swap was not done properly and mounts were not installed correctly giving a bad vibration? Additionally, when I am cruising in 3rd / 4th / 5th gear and I lightly tap the throttle gently or hold the throttle down at 5-10%, I hear a "clunk" "clunk" "clunk" noise along with a bit of bogging as if the car is getting gassed then nothing, gassed then nothing with clunking noises..... These problems have been making my life suck as I have forked a lot of money on this car and it still has these issues. Ideas / help / recommendations are highly welcome, thank you.
  7. will this bolt onto a neo rb25det engine?

  17. My apologies if this topic has been covered many times before, I have read through them and there's no real conclusive answer. The time has finally come to make an upgrade. My mate who used to own an S15 loved it, said the handling was better than any skyline, it was zippy (light weight) didn't steer like a boat and had decent power. Whereas all I can see now, are paper figures the R34 GTT being ~120kg more heavier but having a LOT more modable power available. I asked my friend about this, and he said that 120kg separates the cars in two different worlds (HUGE DIFFERENCE). Having driven an R34 stock GTT and sat in a stock S15, I can tell that stock for stock, the S15 is lacking by far, whereas driving the GTT, the RPMs climb so fast it's insane. That being said, the S15 didn't have much low end torque either, I can't even say that it had as much torque as my naturally aspirated R34 did. I've asked many prestigious car owners who have owned multiple S15s, EVOs, and R34s over their time, and they keep telling me the S15 was the best out of all of them. I just don't see how good the S15 is.... I mean 120kg lighter but it has the SR20 which is a prestigious engine, but certainly not as invincible nor can it obtain easy power as the RB25DET can? So I'd like you fellas on this forum to tell me 3 things: 1. Does 120kg on road make a HUGE noticable difference? 2. If so, does the easy power of the RB25 make up for this difference? 3. Ultimately, which car would be best for fun, torque, daily and track? Cheers!
  18. Hey james your brother matt who works with me has pointed out that you're selling this car. I would really love to buy it but you put it for sale a few months early =[ If it's still for sale by nov/dec drive it to matt's work and take me for a spin =P
  19. ohhhhh really really tempting at the moment.....but considering i still need an ECU and tune.....
  20. Yup, okay I've made my mind up and I'll be leaving my car stock and getting a turbo car either R34 GTT or S15 in the future. Thanks for all your advice guys!
  21. Wow $3000-4000 doesn't sound too bad? How much was your SAFC? I could probably even go for a piggyback ecu system. The tune will be expensive though...I'm happy to do most of the labor myself anyways, no matter how long it takes. 190rwkw on 8psi after 3.5k?? That's quite amazing! I'll look into it more and weigh up the benefits since I've just put a new set of tyres, tint, coilpacks and heaps of bits and pieces to my car to make it more comfortable to drive.
  22. Alright Hanaldo, I'll take your advice and look into it more at exact price, time etc. But you have to admit, some people make the conversion sound like a piece of cake.
  23. Hanaldo: I understand where you're coming from, but from what I've read, some blokes are starting the job at 7.30pm and finishing the job at 5am the next morning, so apparently it's an 'easy' conversion, you just have to pick up the bits and pieces from this forum somewhere..... I want to experience the learning and go through what it's like to slowly and carefully put on a turbo and all the other bits and pieces then get it tuned, without the hassle of buying a GTT and not knowing how the engine is like, or what has been done to it. What I meant by budget, was BANG FOR BUCK. I don't want to be lazy and just sell my car and buy a turbo one, I like to do these conversion things, it sounds fun, but I'm not rich and I don't have all this extra money to be going into a car, so I would like a BANG FOR BUCK conversion.... Did you say you popped an RB25DET in? I don't want to do that, i'd rather buy a GTT but where's the fun in that? There is insurance, stamp duties, transfer fees, RWC, finding, selling, rego fees to pay that is involved with selling a skyline and buying another one. Instead I want to bolt a turbo on. Plus I've heard that the difference between a GT and a GTT is just brakes, ecu, and pistons. If i leave the pistons/brakes stock, all i'll need is a few bits and pieces and it should be fine, with the possibility of forged pistons later down the road for higher boost. reason i said it was cheap and easy was because after reading the 37 pages, I get some people saying that they've done it for under 1.5k.
  24. Hi guys, so I've just read through all 37 pages of this thread and from what I could saw, at the start there was a LOT of interest going on in favor of getting the conversion done. Towards the middle there was some doubt and some people were saying, JUST BUY A GTT or a car that already has a turbo in it!!! Saves a lot of headaches... Now it is 2012 and this thread started wayyyyyy back.... Since R34 GTTs are almost the same price as 25GTs now, considering the drop in price for the parts for the conversion, do you think it is still worth it to do a turbo conversion for my R34 neo rb25de? I've actually spent a fair amount of time and money on the car already, and I know my car hasn't been thrashed around like most of the other R34 GTTs on the market. I'm considering doing everything myself and getting the most BUDGET aka cheapest bits for my car, leaving the internals stock and getting a professional tune. How much rwkw am I looking at? And also how much will it cost as of may 2012? Figures that I predict are from 100rwkw ---> 150-160rwkw? Price about 1000-2000 dollars for parts and tune? But I guess power isn't everything, I just want a really responsive car that has massive amount of torque lol..... Car is pretty much stock as rock and I want to go for a sleeper look.....(personal reasons) All help welcome =D
