Tim's 1992 N14 SSS Build
TimmyMA70 replied to TimmyMA70's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
I sussed each one out before the muffler was properly mounted. I leant towards the straight tip to be honest. Just looked 'right' to me, the dump was cool, and would probably grow on me, however when I saw them side by side the straight instantly looked understated, like the rest of the car I suppose. -

A dump tip is definitely on the cards. I'm going to mock up a 3" dump and a 3" straight, see which one I like more. -

Thanks again to all the guys following this thread. The exhaust is 95% complete. The whole thing is welded out, I bolted it up tonight, the only thing I haven't done is decide on the tip design. However I'm leaning towards just a 3" straight tip, keep the whole thing subtle. Started it up tonight, it is whisper quiet, which obviously wasn't an accident with all the mufflers in the exhaust. I am extremely happy with it though. Interior needs to be reinstalled and it'll be off to the tuner. Thanks again for reading. -

Hey guys, a bit of progress today have the rear muffler hung. The rest of my pie cuts are cut and prepped, just need to finish tacking them tomorrow, weld it out and decide on the tip style I'd like to use. Anyhow, enjoy the pictures. Thanks for reading ? -

Hey guys, not a massive update. Although the last one for a week or so. The exhaust is completely welded out and hung under it's own weight. New rubbers installed and 304 grade stainless round bar used to make exhaust hangers. I have 2 or 3 more bends to go, another v band or 2 bolt flange, (haven't decided yet, I have both just in case) and hang the rear muffler I'd say I'm a bit past half way and a bottle and half of Argon through the job. A side note, definitely need to 'upgrade' the nuts supplied on these vband flanges, nyloc nuts aren't going to cut it with heat lol. -

I'm still into it although having a little break. Have achieved a fair bit today. Anyway I'll let the photos do the talking. Ended up porting the lobster back section, as there was a bit too much penetration where the lobster back sections came really close together. -

This is where I got up to tonight. Pretty well buggered, so that'll do until tomorrow. -

Yeah, spot on, it's a tiny little 4" OD resonator 9" long from memory, exhaust is 3" so it is more or less redundant although it might help take some of the drone/rasp out of the thing, or that's the idea anyhow. Yes, that is very true. Time will tell, as I'm hooking into the exhaust now. -

Yeah 98 mate. E85 is a bit of overkill for this setup. I think that'll be fairly accurate. Around the 145kw mark should be achievable I think. We shall see though ? -

I'm not convinced it'll be that high. Although I like your optimism! -

This engine is a stock P12 SR20VE. Stock cams, stock head, springs etc. Stock bottom end. However has been shimmed to 0.01mm factory specs. Engine is only running the alternator, no P/S pump, water pump or A/C 4-1 to 3" collector headers 3.5" - 3" mafless intake pipe Haltech Elite 1500 That's basically it man. This is basically an interim engine, partially to make the car more enjoyable for me and so I can teach the wife (or she can teach me) how to drive on the track lol. Then I'll finish off the P11 engine. Jez uses a Mainline Dyno from memory. -

I'd like to say early November. I've got a weeks holiday coming up, so unfortunately there won't be any progress then as we're going away. I'd estimate 3 or 4 days to make the exhaust, back purging everything as I go, including modifying the engine crossmember for clearance. Another few hours in a wheel alignment (currently in track setup) too before I trailer it down there, so then I can drive it home once finished. -

Very minor update. It drives. Drove it approx 10m out the back to give it a wash. Still a few things to sort out, like rusty rotors, ordered the rest of my exhaust components today, a dual flow meter setup for my tig regulator so I can back purge this exhaust, double check everything and off to get a tune. Thanks for reading ? -

You like that? ? Sounds good to me man! Lets make it happen ? I've always been interested in custom car fabrication/sheet metal work etc since I was an apprentice. Did an advanced welding course to learn some more about tig welding and the sheet metal, I just make up as I go along. -

I'm a fitter/machinist Dan. I have helped other people out previously with different projects along the way. I love helping people, however the biggest reward is the ones who truly and genuinely appreciate your time. The last guy I helped I realised the extra cash is just a sweetner, as unfortunately the appreciation was more of an expectation... I struggled alot with motivation. However the guys who give good feedback, it honesty wouldn't worry me if I got paid or not lol Thanks for the feedback and compliments as usual mate ? -

Hey guys, some more updates, mainly around wiring. I sussed out my inputs/outputs that were left over, there was enough to setup traction control and put both launch control and traction control on an 'on/off' switch. So I thought I might as well take full advantage of all the ECU functions. I am using the OEM rear demister switch for the launch control (which is no longer functional) and plan on sourcing another for the traction control. The heater box is back in, all the interior wiring has been wrapped in braid for extra protection, the dash crash bar/center console brackets have all been rubbed back and painted black due to surface rust. All the interior is being pieced back together now. Anyway, enough writing and more photos. -

A little bit more information I'd like to share with you guys. The P12 SR20VE uses top feed fuel injectors, anyhow a good mate of mine has a flow bench/cleaning station ultrasonic cleaning bath. The engine was in fantastic condition when I stripped it for inspection and to fix the oil weep from the timing cover. However we thought it'd be best, considering how clean everything went back together to clean and flow the injectors, as a precaution. He did really well, managed to get all 4 injectors spot on. -

It certainly is a big milestone! Extremely happy with how it's come out. Thanks very much mate! As you know there has been alot of checking and double checking hence why it's been a slow build, although it worked out quiet well in the end! To get it running I had a spare fuel pump plug, I just terminated that and manually powered the fuel pump to get it to fire then I spent some time the following day fault finding, which ended up being very simple! Thank you very much for the compliments ? I really appreciate it. Me too! It sounds like a Massey Ferguson tractor right now, however it'll have some big mufflers in there soon enough to kill some of that 'noise' and hopefully make it sound a bit sweeter. -

A major update guys.... Finally got the SR fired up! I only had one minor issue getting it to start, which was I had terminated the fuel pump in an empty slot on a Deutsch plug. However no biggie there! Now to finish the wiring off inside the car, now I know everything works ? 20191004_212051.mp4 -

So, small update guys. The DBW throttle body/pedal is all wired in, calibrated and working! Couldn't be happier in all honesty. The Haltech powered up perfectly. After a swap from one CAN port to the other the Wideband is now working too. All the inputs have been setup and I only need to setup the ignition timing, fit the cleaned and flowed injectors (hopefully this Thursday) fit my driveshafts and fill the gearbox up with oil. It should be right to start then! Oh, I have confirmed the crank trigger is working to some degree also(reading RPM) With some luck, this weekend I may be able to get it fired up! 20190930_175456_1.mp4
