  1. That tune is terrible! I bet the AFR is off or the Spark map is crap in the NA area.
  2. Look at the measurements on the BorgWarner website.
  3. Are they slipping? Or is it a select few out of thousands of units?
  4. Garrett are better?! Ohh please! They had core failure after core failure... their bearing system for our aftermarket turbos was made out of nylon! Only recently they have a bearing made out of metal. Why? Because BorgWarner came out with the EFR Series. All the failures the Garret had were ‘customer problems’ ha! They are a joke! now let’s talk about precision. Google ‘precision failure’ you won’t stop reading for days. Then try precision in a track race environment. No chance of survival. borgwarner have directed their efforts directly at the performance/aftermarket tuners. Their core is solid and their packaging is supreme. If Casting dags stops use of their turbo for you, ok. Your call. Not for me, I’ve seen these turbos punished, inc (but not limited to) WTAC. They keep coming back for more. it’s a bit of a rant. But for me and what I’ve SEEN the EFR series is strong, dependable and their response as a turbo is second to none.
  5. Casting for anything is never perfect unless they are hand finished. Most Engines have casting dags inside, most people just never see them, so they don’t worry about them. however in saying that, I completely agree with the cost of these turbos they should be perfect.
  6. Thanks all, very good info I am going to go with the 8474 and the 1.05. The wastegate arrangement on my manifold is not setup for max flow (ie not inline like a compound arrangement), it’s setup for max spool. I will have to purchase an electric wastegate so I can purge based on nitrous + exhaust flow and retain the spool. I will log the data when I run it, but it’s going to be a while before I am ready to test
  7. Thanks Lithium. Do you have a dyno, so I have an idea? Or an idea on response?
  8. I know the 1.45 a/r would easily do it. But remember I want a responsive Turbo, I wonder how much the largest exhaust housing will cost me in response. I know a lot of people under estimate the exhaust housing, perhaps it’s not the case right now. How much do you think a 1.0 are housing is going to limit On nitrous
  9. The 400shot will just be for the drags, 300 will probably be just as fast , it’ll be gear and progressive with the Emtron doing all the work (once it’s dialled in). The Supra needs a fair bit of suspension tweaking to get it to plant properly at the drags anyhow (and some good tyres) 600+ is plenty for the street.
  10. I’d like a minimum of 600hp on 98. I’ve had 62mm -> 80mm turbos and made 550hp -> 900hp (not turbo limited). The next turbo is like to be streetable, meaning when I plant the foot at 3,000rpm it has boost and at 4,500rpm I want it to PROPERLY pull (ie full boost). I expect (perhaps wrong) that the 68mm 8474 would be responsive on a 3L with cams. I was thinking it should put down 600hp no sweat. I can of course get the 9280 with a small hotside if that spools adequately. cheers!
  11. I’m pretty fresh to SAU, I used to follow Supra forum pretty hard. I’ve read through this post from 70ish onwards. Very interesting results. I have a 3L Supra with GSC S2 cams (272ish), GSC Beehive springs, stainless valves, 9.5:1, all the good gear inside. Bottom end is for 1500hp. ive has big turbos and want this next iteration to be a great street car. I’m thinking the 8474 with a progressive 400shot at the drags. Looking at Matchbot, the turbo is too small for the engine, then using logic my goals are a responsive turbo, so I guess that fits. My question is, will the 9280 be a responsive turbo On the 2JZ or is it a turbo more spec’d for racing where you can swap a cog or drag racing. I can’t find any 2JZ’s with the 8474... mostly they go Precision. I saw the 8374, which had a nice boost curve. comments welcome...
